I have been a keen viewer of this site, so don't Troll me, but with such a great story structure that is new, rather than an old idea, ie, king kong, why?

Initally I had my doubts about the 2 hour duration, however with the 74 year old at the helm with 33 years to get it right, we should keep the faith.
Most Alien fans were hoping for a slow burn as per the first film, but Prometheus will be a different feel and pace, for new and old fans alike....
Big things have small beginnings is the key here and I'm hoping that the 3 hour crescendo is still in that brilliant head.........

According to Ridley it is long enough to tell the story he wants to tell. Why make a movie longer then needed?
Most movies I have seen lately that run well over two hour could have at least twenty minutes left on the editing room floor and be none the worse for it. Many would be better.......

In Hollywood, it's all about the deal. Think 2 part. Everybody wins, public, fans Fox stockholders, Ridley, Fassbender. I live in this town and it's an industry town. In reality, it's a small town.

I've said this before....Alien was 1hr 56m and is considered a classic! If only it were so simple to calculate the merit of a film by the length of it's running time. Aliens directors cut is 2hr's 37m and seems a bit tiring....2hr's seems about right.

King Kong was a near 3 hour film. Only about 2 of those hours were near watchable.
I have no worries about Prometheus not being long enough.

I do have slight concerns, as I believe there's a big story to be told. Ridley said it's fast, and it should be fast. Fast and tightly packed does go well with recent trends in film making, but is it always good? Aren't some of those 'lenghty' bits desperately needed to build even more tension, when it's cleverly done and balanced?
Well, would you cut one single frame out of 2001: A Space Odyssey?? My avatar and name might give it away, so be careful what you say now even when whispered, I can lip-read!! Haha, LOL

I feel certain he's a man who can call his shots in this regard. Personally I'm not going to fret - at least not until after I've seen what he's done with his 2 hours. That's actually a good chunk of time.

keep worrying there Hal9000...
meanwhile I will bet a new pair of pants and underwear that you will need them as your jaw is dropping into your lap halfway through the film.

"Hi all, after buying Jacksons King Kong today and noticing that it was a near 3 hour film..."
King Kong seriously didn't need to be three hours long. PJ really needed to cut the fat on that one.
Now, does Prometheus need to be longer than two hours? No one's going to know for sure until they see the two hour cut. It's a little silly to speculate beforehand.
I've seen great 80 minute movies and I've seen great 3+ hour movies...

HAL since you're from the greatest sci fi film of all time, directed by the greatest director of all time....like I said earlier, there's always Part 2,.....and there's always the home market to offer context that was cut from the film without too much damage to the storyline.
Now..open the pod bay doors HAL..and let those worries out and free from your circuits.
It's all good...there's always room for a sequel..or a prequel to a sequel
April 28, 2012
Ok now, where to start? As I almost suffered a short circuit here... Haha! Before someone doesn't catch my drift, I'm more than just thrilled about Prometheus and as I said, I'm only SLIGHTLY concerned. I think it's just being greedy and nervous about the film ending too quickly, that I simply want MORE! I'm just a huge fan of long movies as long as they're well done and this one most certainly will be (or is already)!
Sparty, having no doubts whatsoever that my jaw will be on the floor, I'll be shitting myself and be sweaty already the day before watching it!
As for sequels, yeah always an option but we all know what happened after 2001: A Space Odyssey... 2010: The Year We Made Contact!! Needless to say how I feel about that, huh?
Circuit boards cooling down... opening hatches.
April 28, 2012
yeah sequels..... All the Aliens on back to the Pred with the dreads vs the Alien horde.....not into sequels. Fun yes...relevant no. Except the Godfathers...most of the time.
2010 was an embarrasment.
Star Wars? the following 2 sequels were fine....and then there was Jar Jar.
There is gold in them thar hills,,the Hollywood hills, that is...everybody has got an idea that arcs....I think it's not simply possible, but it's inevitable. Sequel. Part 2.

Initnally I had my doubts about the 2 hour duration, however the 74 year old man at the helm has had 33 years to get this right and his way.....
I think all true Alien fans were hoping for a slow burner silimar to Alien, however from all the amazing snippets so far, Prometheus will have a different pace and feel to it to cater for new and old fans alike.
We need to have faith that the old boy has got the pace and timescales correct and i have to agree that this could be a case of ' big things have small beginnings' with a 3 hour crescendo still in his head...........

I remember, from an interview/discussion at an event in Paris, i believe, Ridley Scott spoke of the runtime. An hour and fifty is what he said (all minus credits).
He described it as "tight" and "what it should be". The only thing that i would get out of Prometheus being longer is... Well. Prometheus being longer :).
I don't want it to end, ever! Hahaha.
Regardless, i have assurance and piece of mind based on what he said. I'll be satisfied when i walk out of the movie theatre. We all will be.
I just wish i could go into hypersleep until Prometheus releases. The timer should be in sync with the release of the movie. I just walk in, and get out, not remembering a thing.
Aaaaaahhhh...
