Is Prometheus hubristic?

MemberOvomorphApril 29, 20121319 Views26 RepliesLets face it, this is nothing new, Gallilleo got it from the Catholic church just for stipulating that Earth wasn't the center of everything.
Can you imagine how religious fundamentalists will take in the philosophy of this movie? They'll go mental. It's completely re-writing everything as we know it, okay it's just a movie, but it's a hell of a statement to make.
I love it.

Nah, they'll just dismiss it as silly 'sci-fi' tosh...and to be honest, I'm not 100% percent happy that the writers went down the 'Chariots of the Gods' type of 'aliens intervening in our past' storyline to begin with myself...but only because it's always seemed a bit 'naff' to me. However, I'm sure this particular version of that notion will rank alongside 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY as the best possible movie interpretation of it, ever.
Anyway, if it actually bothers any of them, I suppose they can still argue that a 'supernatural being' was still needed to create the universe that the 'Spacejockeys' live in too.

I hope they do get all pissed off and loud about it. Just like all the racist hicks that cried over Obama being elected. It just lets me know who to avoid in life.
April 29, 2012
Calling it, "hubristic", doesn't make any sense - even less so when we have no clue how the story plays out.
April 29, 2012
Hubristic wouldnt be the word i would use in relation to Judaic fundamentalists....the word they would use is Blasphemous.
Neither of which is actually true because the basis for their own doctrines are tablets and texts which predate any of their bibles. Sumerian, Incan, Aztec, Anasazi, Mayan, Native American, Aborigine, Babylonian, Hindu, and Egyptian texts and temples clearly state that the gods are "alien" astronauts.
It isnt until Ra (Marduk) and later Akenaten shows up that it turns into a monotheistic view, and even those doctrines base their merit on the fact that Ra isnt a human being and later Akenaten isnt entirely human, but has Divine (ALIEN) lineage.

Well its going to upset those who follow strictly or fanatically the Abrahamic religons, ok Islam kinda does have more science in it.
We dont know the truth of life and our beginings the Ancient Aliens is one theory, the multiple gods is another and Evolution is another and all do have some kind of evidence that can support them.
But findings, paintings, drawings, coinsidential matches from cultures who have no contact with each other, findings of science inc fossils, space missions etc etc...
Are just not really 100% proof..... and of course to some just our controlling Goverments manipulation.
Yet the real truth is in a Book and has to be take as gospel... yeah right.
While this movie may upset Alex Jones, there will be many more who will be sooooooooooooo upset at this movie, its gonna be funny to see their reactions.
Maybe they will start the Witch Hunts again, and attack all Sci Fi works from now on ;)

@Galzu
Have you ever tried to have a discussion with any of them ;)
Those ancient religons are all false, they did not exist they was all just work of the iluminati or the Devil. Who misled those people.
You try and say and give dates like 2000BC etc and they simply say that those religons are not the oldest, the Bible is the oldest as it was written at the start of time.... i.e Genesis.
Its kinda funny to try and find holes but you just cant win, no matter what science says its all lies, we are to many still the centre of the universe, there is no life anywhere else and never will be inc simply one cell life. There are no such thing as Dinosaurs never was.... the list goes on and on.
As for Gods........ there is only one god and everyone of us need to get that into our thick devil possed skulls.... The Bible says so.
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness
Bit strange that one..... should that not say.......
Then God said, let me create man in my image and in my likeness.......lol

Divine means not human so in a way it means alien. Even if we aren't talking about an organism that lives on a planet. If there is a creator then he/she/they are simply a different form of life than our own.
April 29, 2012
im right there with you BigDave, and im not even discrediting Abrahamic viewpoints, but your right.....speak the truth and be burned at the stake (or Crucified).
The irony is that Eloyhim or EL is used a plural as well as a singular noun in their own texts.
But NOPE there is only ONE. I guess OUR IMAGE means to them, the one god has multiple personalities or cloned itself 12 times.
@Kane77 When i say Alien i mean non earthly or "heavenly", to me this means from space (outside of Earth)

anyone of the ancient astronaut believe system has firstly to proof that ´aliens´ arent any other known spiritual beeings as angels, archangels, archai etc, beeings from the hierarchy. dont forget demonic entities, too..
Real demonic encounters nowadays are often mistaken for Ufo or Alien.
Then they have to proof that aliens exist, ancient or actual.
good luck.
nice reader, too:

@kane77 I admire your piety, but why should there need to be "Proof" of aliens if there is no "Proof" of a singular omniscient super being. Your stance is contradictory and presents a double standard.
Blind Faith is not righteous. Its even stated in the bible.
”A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thoughts to his steps.” (Proverbs 14:15)
I dont want the thread to become derailed from the topic at hand, so please dont interpret my point as an attempt to troll or enflame.

Galzu, this is just boring, sorry...like the discussions on ATS or similar, same discussion tactics, same rhetorics..same.. whatever..;)
you also can use the search function, this was discussed many times before..
have a nice sunday.
April 29, 2012
@Kane77 Obviously you didnt read anything that i said. Its also obvious you have just proved the exact point BigDave made. This went from discussion to a personal attack. Is that your idea of doing good works? What value did you even add to the discussion?
We are talking about blasphemy and hubris. You are talking about the definition of Divine. No search function needed.
Truth is Truth. I am using no "tactics" or "Rhetoric", only common sense. If its boring, same old same old, for you then why even post here? You seem to have deaf ears, blind eyes, and a long road ahead of you my friend. Namaste.

April 29, 2012
no, I just said my opinion. If you dont like it, well.
And I wont adress your attempt to put words in my mouth by saying I do personal attacks. Just because I know that already is part of those discussion tactics.
You dont have to hide behind BigDave´s words, too..;)
just one question for you, do you believe/ think that the Christ exists as a real beeing or not? simple question. and not meant religious but as a fact.

Judging by the size of the Universe which to our knowledge is exponentially infinite. To think we are the only planet capable of life is not only ignorant but arrogant to boot.
You can say to our knowledge we are the only living lifeforms in our solar system but what about the infinite other solar systems and galaxies out there. To big to comprehend.
Governments, NASA etc are all likely to cover up any other life they have found just keep everyone pre-occupied on earth and keep the church savy individuals in line. If the church crumbled, could you imagine all the free thinkers roaming around. I am by no means bashing the church so dont go there.
April 29, 2012
@Galzu
Just because you and the institutionalized "experts" do not fully understand the method of spiritually inspired writing/storytelling does not mean they are talking about Aliens. Dreams and the archetypal dreamworld are a fundamental guiding force behind the method of teaching which spiritual traditions utilize. Heaven is not Space it is representative of the mind and higher functions therein. Earth is not the planet Earth specifically but the body, its connection to nature, and the gross physical processes (like eating) associated with it. Read some Joseph Campbell and give your imagination a rest.
Judging by the size of the Universe which to our knowledge is exponentially infinite. To think we are the only planet capable of life is not only ignorant but arrogant to boot.
Actually arrogance is assuming scientific (human) knowledge of the universe is thorough enough to assume one way or another. Perhaps we are alone perhaps we aren't, either way the laws of physics demand that we don't venture outside our own solar system to find out and make contact. Space is f*cking huge and light-speed travel is not possible for us per Einstein (matter expands to become infinite). If there are other civilizations in the universe we are not meant to intermingle otherwise, we wouldn't exist as physical forms goverened by the laws of physics. That's what science fiction is for.

@B166ER what are you even responding to?
This thread is about the backlash the movie may incite in certain demographics. Not about my or anyone else's personal beliefs. I posted a theory in relation to the topic. You have posted an inane statement about "limited understanding". The pot calling the kettle black for sure. Who are the ones making it personal? Who are the ones attacking others?
What purpose does your post serve?
BigDave's point proven again.

Ya right. "clearly". Only in your imagination. You're as bad as the "religious fundamentalists" you expressed your disdain for.

Ya, and you're still black. Do you want me to quote what that's in response to also?
