Is it bad continuity?

Of course it's just a cut. In the full scene we'll see Millburn pick the thing up, pet it a little, and then a couple minutes of cuddles before it enters the suit.

maybe they had to cut out him trying to come up with names while hes cuddling it. too long for the trailer hehehe. i think "nibbles" would have been a good choice.

I'd say cut scenes ... because that's too much of a jump to be honest ... I have noticed too, in the trailers, that some of the Visual Effects are really SHABBY (totally crap) ... from Ridleys own production company or from Fox themselves I don't know ... A classic scene is when the Scanning ball is going 'behind' the big-head and another scene when it's going behind the stacked-urns ... it looks like they just cutout the images and re-pasted them back in to make the ball go behind them ... it's really bad Keying (if there was a green screen there to start with i don't know) ... I do hope it's only rough for the trailers because I could've done a better job at that ...

I think that the trailers don't show the finished product, as I suppose that the movie is still in post-production and will be until the very last moment.

It's just a trailer bro. Definitely just a cut scene. RS is too OCD to do something that looks cheesy to be the final product. Besides, with the budget he is working with, there is no reason to accept effects that don't "work".

I think that scene is going to play out for a full minute or two, it's going to latch onto his arm and try to rip open his suit. "cut it off, cut it off.." "It's breaking my arm.." etc.... I think it's going to be more of a long few moments discomfort than a cheap quick shock.

Its just the trailer. They dont put all the frames or shots from a scene into a trailer. Plus the finished film will have better CGI. For example, in the earlier trailers, for the scene where David pulls the goo tech out of the urn it was green in color in those early trailers. The black oil which covers the stuff in the new trailers, just hadnt been added yet in those older trailers. Its pretty common for CGI and special visual effects to be unfinished in film trailers. I remember the early Watchmen trailers were full of it. Also, I believe that the saucer thing we see in flight above the waterfall, will be revealed to be a pyramid in the finished film. Mark my words-That's what it is! They are either capable of full flight, or at the very least; hover.

I love how some movie sites(aicn, etc) keep touting the Prometheusforum.net version as a spoiler and the "correct" solving of the audio puzzle....its totally out of sequence and doesnt convey whats really happening.
