What do the pictograms tell us?

Rather than an invitation could the pictograms be a warning - ie don't go to this star system?

If your using the real life mythologies from all those areas the most common 2 stories are 1)our creation by the Gods and )2 the great war in heaven(sky/space) over what to do with us (we were a "resource"). One group wanted us to be our own beings and fought to protect us against a rogue group who wanted to "use, corrupt, and destroy" us. My theory is a group of beings fashioned a lesser race (than them) to help them, and they both fashioned us. They saw how we developed so much and exalted us above the original lesser race. Some of the lesser race didnt like this and decided to overthrow the Gods, take their place, and use us for "whatever they wanted". The war breaks out and the "dissenters" eventually lose and are banished. This same story is relayed in every single ancient religion. Its possible the Gods were saying to stay away from LV223 because that is where they banished the "demons". They would leave this message because they knew we would grow unabated now that the demons were "imprisoned". The derelict could have been trying to transport the demon's eggs to the prison for disposal and never quite made it. It made an emergency landing on lV426 and left a signal to stay away. Whatever the Prometheus crew do, it wakes up either a "warden" or a "Demon". If the Gods race is dying or extinct, we are the only remaining containers of their DNA (made in their image). The Warden tries to go to earth to rebuild the race or the "demon" tries to go back to Earth to finish the job he got imprisoned for.

They tell me I need to learn how to read pictograms.

Silliness aside, I can say for sure that those character's are telling their story, the story of the species that wrote them, probably important events.

That's one way of looking at it. If indeed our primordial DNA became entangled with that of one of the actual Engineers, imagine if some type of ancestral memory was passed down through the generations to the offspring. Over time their distinguishing physical traits would fade until they were as David, physically indistinguishable from the person standing next to you. Though such individuals might possess a superior intellect that would have earned them titles such as Shamen, Oracles, Medicine men, even heretics in less evolved societies. Even The Nephilim (Hebrew: נפלים, Nefilīm) were a race that came to dominate the antediluvian (pre-flood) world, and are referred to in the Bible as the heroes of old, men of renown. They were reportedly the children born to the "Sons of God" by the "daughters of men", and are described as giants. It is also most important to note that they are mentioned almost simultaneous to God's statement that He would destroy the earth by flood, and it seems from this association that their effect upon mankind was one of the primary justifications that brought the destruction. If you interpret this in the broadest sense, we have been taught to believe that our world was visited by beings from elsewhere. "What could we have done that would have made the SJ's wish to destroy us as an entire species?" Well if we were the unexpected progeny of a being banished from them eons ago, in their view "WE" would be "CORRUPT, UNNATURAL, and a last laugh in the face of those who thought they had imprisoned something unwanted so long ago on a planet far, far away.

these hieroglyphs have me perplexed....it looks like they also are in the huge temple/ship, and in one of the trailers it looks like David says to Shaw, I hope you can read this/these.....so why would hieroglyphs coincide with such advanced technology....cant figure that out, unless there is another race/species....so are there primitves on the LV-223 or do these advanced races still use wall carvings?

i remember seeing a documentary on educational television many years ago about two temples from two different cultures and two different time frames who's ground layouts were nearly identical. i cant remember much detail about which cultures they were now, but they were in two very separate parts of the world and time. the similarities between them greatly puzzled everyone until it was found that they were both mapped based on the same constellation which in the two different time periods would have been visible to the people in each area respectively. i wish i could remember more clearly about this but it was a while back. i dont know if anyone else here is familiar with this but i thought that it might have been a concept that some of this stuff for prometheus may have drawn upon. either way i thought it was pretty interesting. if i am able to find out more about this i will update.

I have no idea what that picture is from I just googled in "To boldly go where no one has gone before" and clicked on Images Oh sorry pictograms and that's what I got. I'm sure the alien was impressed too! Get them back for all that forced probing. Now that we have confirmed the aliens intentions to humanity through pictographs....IS there anything else we need to know?

It seems that folks need to seriously lighten up around here. This is a community and in any community you're going to have "class clowns". It relieves a bit of the tension that we are all experiencing. I have more respect for those that can have a giggle (i.e. LOL) and continue with the topic, but griping about a staff member (or any other member) because they decided to lighten the mood of a post is a bit ridiculous. Laugh, shrug it off, and continue. As far as entire threads being deleted. The owner of this site has good reasons to do so. I personally have requested that certain threads be deleted for the benefit of this community. So don't blame the owner and staff. Blame some of the veterans here that also "police" these forums to make it the best Prometheus movie site currently on the world-wide internet. I'm sorry to hear folks leaving because XYZ was the last straw. Why not take a few days off the forum and come back with a clearer mindset. We are ultimately here to have fun. I can do that very easily, and as I have said in many many threads now... Not Much as many of us have stated... #1-There is NO WAY, the pictograms are an Invitation to anything. No Alien Race in it's right mind is gonna send out 7 seperate invites basically covering all of this earth so that it could happen where everyone on earth randomly shows up on the Space Jockeys Home world for dinner. And I use that description to make a point...because firstly they wouldn't have enough food to feed us all, and secondly, because it's just nonsense to me and imo. #2- In all likelihood what that is, what they all are, are clearly an acknowledgment that something from the same star system was noticed and worshiped and immortalized in stone tablets by all the people in that immediate area and at that estimated time period in history. #3-It also contains an element that IMO LOGIC dictates it should be taken seriously and treated no differently than any warning. There's a good chance something will pop up from that same system again some day. Bonus Edit: Looks like there is evidence of some kind of Organ Transplantation experimentation no?, is their a Human with a horses head in any of them?, can't really tell and won't really know I guess 'till we see them close up in the movie.

The geographically and chronologically distant pictograms tells us that the SJs have had multiple visits to Earth and during a short "window" relative to the age of the Earth (say the between 3500 BC to 1500 AD). That tells us: 1) They only come every so often (every 1000 years) and we are due for another visit (ahem...Dec 2012...hint...hint.. ; ) ) 2) The SJs reached their civilization peak and are now a expiring race....no more visits. 3) Nothing at all....Humans simply aren't that interesting. Meddle with us, give us some evolutionary pushes and we're STILL......boring (i.e The Dark Ages). 4) Will add more later as the discussion continues.

It would be a good idea to try to figure out which earth cultures the "map pictogram" illustrations are associated with and see where they DO fine on our timeline. Point number 2 then leads to the question "why now, after all those eons?" Perhaps they made too many mistakes in the lab and it's literally come back to bite them (from the inside out). I am assuming that the stars in the illustrations in question are meant to mirror something like, if not precisely, the [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiades]Pleiades[/url].
