MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 3:47 PMSince Vangelis Papathanasiou has worked in the past with Ridley Scott on Blade Runners (and we all remember what a great score that was, and still is), I believe he will be the compositor of the score for Alien Prometheus.
And like alien DNA apparent throughout the film and the trailers, Vangelis' musical DNA is rather there too, judging from the music I have heard from the trailer...
I really think that would be great!

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 3:56 PMI suspect that Markos is Greek (or of Greek origins, at least), as Vangelis is actually transcribed Vaggelis from Greek.
There, he corrected it!
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 3:58 PMI wish. Instead it will be standard blockbuster crap.
Remember when movies had unique music? I do. God I miss those days.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 3:59 PMVangelis is awesome.
But I also love his work with Aphrodite's Child.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:01 PMTo honour Pvt. Hudson I have already changed Vagelis to Vangelis...and yes Frantz got me! I am Greek:).It's true that Vaggelis is the correct Greek name, but it appears that I wrote it as Vagelis cause it sounded more natural to my Greek language. Also NoXWord thanks for the insight. I am not disappointed, I believe from what I have already heard that Marc Streitenfeld has done a tremendous job. Thank you all for sharing guys.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:04 PMI have a feeling the score will be superb. Ridley discussed the importance of a score to him. He felt the score was just as important as the visuals.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:07 PMOupsss! My bad. It's rather late here where I am writing from.:) Yeah the score, is actually a key character for every successful movie. It had better be good!

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:07 PMOne tweet I read this morning stated that the score is going to be iconic.
I don't know how reliable that opinion is, but it would be awesome. The other alien scores are memorable, but none of those ever became iconic.
It would be great to hear people humming the theme for Prometheus on the streets, just like I can hear Harry Potter of The Lord of the Rings (to name some recent movies, not older ones, like Star Wars, that would be too much).

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:12 PMAnd in the original Alien of 1979 can you recollect the sounds? That incredible echoing drum, or echoing string bass....the flutes which according to me transfered the spectators to the true coldness of space...and the feeling of something...well...alien...

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:16 PMThe first alien soundtrack is to me, but it is a unique soundtrack that many would not want to listen to as it isn't a light listening experience. It's a challenging soundtrack.
I like challenging soundtracks though. I like challenging music in general.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 4:21 PMThans MarcoBot.If Mr Scott remains true to his beliefs, I am sure he will find a way to make Prometheus as a success as the original 1979 film was. I hope this new movie will make me feel the way it did make me feel in 1979, when I was only a kid.I believe he will create a new experience that will become a new cult. I might add...I would need such kind of an experience....I would like to watch a movie that would really be a page turner like the original. I hope this movie will do it.

MemberOvomorphApr-10-2012 10:05 PMInteresting find on Alien Makers Documentary: Alien Main Title score was from another movie Jerry Goldsmith did called Freud. It was added as a temp score by film editor Terry Rawlings (who did sound work for The Duallists), but ended up staying in final cut. Jerry was not happy about this. Watch documentary here.
Alien Makers II, its about 73 min. in, but whole doc. is great, even has some unseen special effects footage!

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 7:34 AMI hope RS rreally cracked the whip for this score to be as non-formula
as possible. Can't comment on Streitenfeld myself, but amongst fans
he's had some slagging. The music is a HUGE part of the scaffolding
upon which a film of this nature hangs. I just hope there's no tumbling
drums and tom-toms lol.

MemberOvomorphApr-11-2012 1:28 PMHard to know what any of the score will sound like, but yes, Streitenfeld has not exactly ball-parked anything he's done with his RS collaborations so far. Perhaps this is his big chance to make a name for himself on the big stage. Robin Hood had some nice ideas ( theme for the antagonist) and good moments, but it's fairly maligned by review.
I'm optimistic, and Streitenfeld might really nail it, but his score for The Grey isn't very special, and he is certainly no Goldsmith or Goldenthal. This is maybe a case where RS may have slipped opportunity by going with his familiar comfort zone. The addition of dissonant choir vocals and Harry Gregson-Williams' input sounds inspired. Who knows? You certainly can't judge by the ideas placed in the trailers, which range fairly wide.
Regardless, the idea that you might be "humming" anything from this score is entirely out of line with anything that has been previously attached as a theme to these films.
In my opinion, Marco Beltrami's ideas used in his score for The Thing (2011) would have been a perfect match--he basically blends Goldsmith's Alien and the loud brass of Goldenthal's Alien3. Made for a brilliant genre score.
