I'm wondering if it is like a back-water planet type thing that no one in the local galactic realestate is going to be none-plused nor care less about what so ever. It seems maybe it's the perfect place for their operations, what ever the reasons for them are.

Could the small world be choosen as the SJ's planetary Area 51?

Quarantine planetoid with a few guardians? Reminds me of A. C. Clarkes 2031. A cave on the dark side of the moon where all man-made horrors are locked away. Mies.

It has been established that LV-223 is a space-jockey "outpost". Specifically, a research outpost and specimen repository. The "temples" are actually silos, IMO.

i m brainstorming uppon the similarities between Avatar planet defense system (beasts attacking..) and Prometheus planetoid (sandstorm rising...), perhaps the whole planetoid stands as a single being - biomechanical computer....hope i m passing my msg through...

You are Thanos, it's fine! You could be right with what you said.

In some way Thanos the sand 'attacking' could be like in Mission To Mars when the 'Face' attacks all who do not broadcast the correct code or approach the 'Mound' in the correct manner. Just trying to correlate with what you are suggesting. Maybe the entire LV- planet is a deeper, bio-mechanical 'Thing' that has 'grown' and had help to 'grow' much like as Thanos said with the Na'Vi in direct 'connection' with their world of Eywa, so too could the same have been for maybe thousands of years by the SJ's for this little planetoid. God only knows why though if that were to be the case in the film because it does show that some civilization has shown so reverence for a chosen location on which to set up the entire temple mount. It is a curious thought experiment to run with that idea and attempt to 'get into the mind-set' of the SJ's - if that is even possible! Why can't they just be a bit more straight with us. I think it is a conspiracy! There keeping something fom us! lol!

perhaps the temples (bumps) are the top of the ''iceberg''.....in any case i would be dissapointed if the alien gods are flesh-like instead of energy beings....

These are great ideas, however, let me throw in some "monkeys". The relationship between planet-size, mass and it's effect on gravity (of course, gravity generators could be planted matrix wise underneath the surface, but you're talking about a huge about of energy to run them for a planet the size of LV-223 which by it's horizonal-arc appears similar to that of Mars or Earth or something in between. The Death Star in Star Wars used gravity panels to keep the occupants glued to the floor. Now THAT was a true mechanical marvel (in theory). Sandstorms happen in a lot of places on Earth where the atmosphere is dry and you have SAND/Loose-dirt. It is a very common occurrence. It would be common on Mars (not sure if actually observed yet) and it would be common on almost any barren planet that lacked plant/vegetation-life (as in the case with LV-426 & LV-223). That Mars movie's sandstorm was more of a tornado than a sandstorm, btw, else it would not have had the power to spin the victim ripping him apart. I'll offer more as the discussion progresses (I hate long-winded posts...even my own).

perhaps we will find out they have been there already for a long long long time...and that whatever strategic importance it does in fact have we are about to find out.

Because I was really intrigued by the idea and thought that the Derilict ship had layed there 'dormant' for centuries, hundreds of thousands of years even -pehaps a million and to then be informed that it has 'been there' for only +33 odd years has kind of blown the legacy of it's origins away a little bit for me as i wanted to think it was an ancient 'ruin' of alien origins in its own right. I am also happy to except that limited 33 + years time frame from the events that would lead into Alien. However, as in Total Recall where the Pyramid Mine was speculated to be about a million, half-a million - half a million years old, so too I would like to be itellectually satisfied that the alien 'Temple Mount ' is in the tens of thousands of years in thier construction and possible 'abandonment/re-habitation'... Satisfy my intellect Ridley, please! I don't want it going to waste on milk and cookies as it is at the mo! lol! Save me RS!

thinking simply i thought the sandstorm was just the atmosphere processing of the engineers turning on, and it causing the first wind in who knos how many years, as after the sandstorm (i imagine) the crew are able to remove their helmets inside the silo.

Sort of like in Total Recall when they turn on the machine in over a million and a half years... Makes you wonder why other people speak of an oxygenated atmosphere by our human standard with their breathing apparatus upon the SJ's face/head, but how do we not know that they breath sulphur or ciyanide? Sounds like I am reachung I know, there is, as always, an internal logic and natural reason why a biological entity would breath such poisionous gases and thus the route to intelligence may not really occur so easily. But who knows, even in the universe, I'm sure truth would be stranger than fiction... I hope! Because if it wasn't, it would be an awfully big waste of space!

If you're not carbon-based (i.e. silicone-based, somethingother-based, etc.) then your blood probably won't be hemoglobin-like and the element (in our case, oxygen) that you need for respiration and "cellular nutrition" for the breaking down of sugars......might possibly be different. Thus you might have life-forms that thrive on ammonia (or some other wacky compound or simple element). Being from Earth, we are all carbon-based-lifeform-centric and find it hard to imagine life thriving any other way HOWEVER, even here on Earth, we do have life-forms that do not use oxygen for respiration. "Life will find a way...."

Thats true, like the extremeofiles around nuclear reactors... and under Artic/Antartic ice sheets.

Ah yes, I love life-forms that use cyanide as a component of respiration. Very cool indeed!

I'm pretty convinced the sandstorm has non natural causes. If it were a natural occurance on LV-223, than the road on which you see the "truck" driving would not be there at all. The pics i've seen so far do not look like the place has a dynamic weather system. Mies
