Star Map is not an invite...

What better way to ensure that future generations don't visit that star system than by leaving not one but seven maps. Remember the maps were made by civilisations that couldn't even cross the alantic. Why would they make a star map when they couldn't even cross the sea.

I wonder if some ancient peoples were picked up wher the alod visitors to Earth had completed what ever they were doing here and left. They may have taken some humans or 'subjects' away with them to the planetoid with the 'Temple Mount' upon.

And that was meant to be 'Old Visitors' to Earth... I want to correct myself before I correct myself !!! ??? ... Yes. lol!

I think that it was an invitation, but as per all formal, polite invitations, it required confirmation. I am sure that all the pictograms, if analysed more deeply, would reveal some form of "RSVP" script. The Prometheus gets there without prior confirmation, hence the disappointment of the host. If only they had confirmed presence and numbers, it would have been a wonderful trip, stupid, bad-mannered humans.

I agree jrock, I always thought it was a warning given out by these ancient civilizations to warn future people of the SJ or the creater's evil/terror. Kind of like in Alien, when Sigourney says; I think it's a warning (or something like that). It will be interesting to see what it actually is.

It's not warning, it's not invitation. It is a picture message that shows race of species doing panspermia and they failed. so if you want to enter this planet, do so at your own risk, type of notice.

My reasoning for thinking it's a warning - SJ's knew our civilisation would evolve enough to eventually explore space They sent out a warning before (original Alien) Obviously there was something to be warned about (see dead SJ's in trailer) I just think it would be a nice, neat little twist that was so very obvious and in our faces.

Perhaps the star map was just an excuse to get poeple to go up there. They were all in Cryo the whole time and they could have gone to any planet in any system without the crew knowing. David8 could have flown Prometheus anywhere while everyone else was in cryo. How else would Weyland assume this planet could perhaps renew his longevity.
