May 09, 2012I think life is not exactly commonplace, especially when considering intelligent life and the time periods required for evolution to work things out. The other aspect is raw materials, environmental pre-requisites and a bit of the luck of the draw relative to extraplanetary influences such as whether or not a moon(s) are present for positional stability, impacts and other common astronomical hazards/parameters. Is their intelligent life out there somewhere? Probably somewhere, at some time(past/present/future) but not necessarily during our time period or in our vacinity or at the same evolutionary level for us to be able to meet them or communicate with them...let alone identify them. But then again, anything IS possible!
