I knew it! This movie is Ridley Scott's thesis for Ancient Alien Theory and now we've lost the whole point which is fictional in its roots. Alien never tried to tell me that we were made by aliens it did the opposite. I'm pissed now, this movie is exactly what so many people have been uncomfortable with ever since Ridley dropped the NASA and Vatican quote a while back. F*@king deuschbag, I am so sick of this crap, and now its infiltrated the Alien franchise through Ridley's skull. Its as bad as Tom Cruise being a scientologist. Hollywood screws with people's minds and makes them believe all kinds of heinous shit. I seriously doubt Ridley felt this way back in 79 when Alien came out. I'm still going to see the movie, I just have a feeling its going to make me very very angry. Movies are not just entertainment, they program people's minds with new and old ideas, now we're gonna have a whole bunch of retards running around dropping the ancient alien theory because "Ridley just made it seem so plausible". Ridley is so done.

RickKMay 09, 2012
And I thought all they wanted to do was make their money back at the concession stand... now they are trying to program my mind? Well if they could do that why didn't they ever just subliminally tell us to go by more popcorn?

B1-66ERMay 09, 2012
They do, at the beginning of every movie during the popcorn and candy advertisement.

Giger is surrealist art. Ridley just tried to make it realist. Stupid, pretentious and so obviously self-absorbed. Piracy.

...it's just sci-fi....i doubt anyone should take it that serious!...just like Mel Gibson's horrific fairytale ..."passion of the Christ" did not change my beliefs in any way shape or form...

FrantzMay 09, 2012
Come on is science fiction !! If someone is so STUPID to change is own beliefs ( whatever they are ) becuase of a movie he will do it anyway !! even for the Simpsons !!! ( and we know there are many ..just look at that illuminati thing )
Juxtapose be a bit more respectful about Christ anyway ..is not a fairytale ..you can belive him to be the son of God or not but was not a fairytale ( that is history not religion )

EnderMay 09, 2012
Its just like that time I watched Star Wars and demanded a refund on my blood test because there was no midi-chlorian count.
Damn public health care

JuxtaposeMay 09, 2012
@frantz
If anyone can prove it to be history..(i mean concrete proof)...then I will also believe....but no one has....I am not gonna argue this one tho...I don't wanne start a war about religious beliefs and perhaps i was a bit harsh and disrespectful to call it a "fairytale"....so sorry!
U are right .... no one's gonna change their beliefs over a movie and i did not change my beliefs after watching a documentary called "zeitgeist" either...those where already my beliefs....so I will watch Prometheus with an open mind....if it's plausible... then i will think..... aaah ok....maybe?..

B1-66ERMay 09, 2012
@ Frantz
That's debateable (whether the story of Christ is historically accurate or not) but not really relevant so I won't go there.
@ everyone
My concern is Ridley's intent in making this movie is a far cry from the first Alien. He's trying to make it Kingdom of Heaven in Space- a sweeping epic, covering a vast scope of ideas, with a relevant point he is trying to make by positing the situations he has chosen to posit. This is what worries me. The Alien franchise, or most specifically, the art it originates from, is sacred, in that it comes unadulterated from the mind of a (mad?) man who chooses not to filter himself. Originally the intent was to bring this art to life and thus was created the "Gigerverse". Prometheus doesn't seem to occur in the Gigerverse anymore. Sure its got some elements but those are now just tools Ridley is using-a means to end if you will- and not the end unto itself-to make his point (as we now know he is so fond of making points with huge sweeping epics). I'm upset but not surprised.

FrantzMay 09, 2012
Juxtapose i know you motivation and i know from where you hate come from but i totally dont agree with you .End of the story for me .
B1-66ER ...there are more gigeresque things in Prometheus than in all alien Franchise ... so i really dont see your point . Now we see a Gigerverse .... not surely in Aliens , Alien 4 or Alien resurrection .

HughMay 09, 2012
I'm very interested now to see just how much they intend to fit into this movie. It all seems like it's too much for one film, no wonder there is already talk of a sequel. We have all had so many theories and there is so much speculation( well maybe not so much now) that it all seems to be just very overwhelming.

Cool...
@ Hugh
It does cover quite a bit and rumor has it that the run time is 2 hrs?... tho I for one think a 3 hr movie might get a bit tedious and perhaps even boring...but then on the other hand...can u ever have too much Prometheus?

dopelgangerMay 09, 2012
Hey folks it's a MOVIE. Man you people need to get a life. @B1-66ER don't go if you don't want to but to trash one of the best directors on the planet becasue he doen't make a overdone Alien move - sad. This story line is a great one and seeing his perspective and take is going to nothing short or brilliant. I am now looking forward to this movie much more. Thanks for the link.

That was an awesome video, i really cant wait for the bluray with all the behind the scenes stuff
i got a question about the dialog though, noomi repace says "this isn't a ..........we have to get out of here now"
Does she say this isn't a democracy, its a little hard to understand

JuxtaposeMay 09, 2012
...is their a way to download the origins featurette....it's not on you-tube?...i use pay as you go Internet and I don't wanne run out watching it over and over...
WindoodMay 09, 2012
Thanks for posting the link tachito, loved that.
As far as i'm aware there is some mention of Yeshua/jesus and the early christian movement in historical documents.
But so what. That does nothing to prove any of the new testament orthodox gospels, and the ones they wouldn't let in show a very different account of what he said,believed and thought. And it's a lot more interesting.
I think the original guy posting meant that christ existed as a person in history, not as any miracle performing wonder-jew.
WindoodMay 09, 2012
@B1-66ER
Are you the thought police, dictating what can and cannot, or should not in your view, be allowable content in movies? Because that sounds very much a lot like censorship. The Exorcist was banned here for years in case weak minds pretended they were possessed.
It's science fiction. Not a chance to show off Gigers work. he's had involvement with other films (they're shit).Fiction. So what if ridley is pointing out that nasa and the vatican say there is biology in the universe besides us. thats all he said. I don't know where you live but in the uk that kind of stuff actually gets in the papers and documentaries get made.
Ridley is using it as a jumping off point to tell a scary story, great. makes it slightly more likely people will be able to accept the fantasy world on screen for 2hrs+
Anyone looking for their own personal metaphysics to be made into a film to brainwash others needs help.

VaderTimeMay 09, 2012
It's a movie. It's entertainment for the masses. It's not a vehicle for promoting Eric Von Daniken's, misguided propaganda about ancient aliens. It's just exploring some ideas that have been out there for a long time. It's Science Fiction and people who go to watch this movie know that. If it makes for good discussion about mankind, the universe and the existence of other life than it's beneficial.

I don't believe in any Bible stories....they are based upon ancient pagan tails that precedes the bible by many centuries...the similarities are staggering!!
...but perhaps i am missing the point...it does not matter if the stories are true or not....it's the moral of the stories that actually matter....but omg....I don't wanne start religious warfare...those are my beliefs and i might very well be wrong!....and i am going way of topic!
...so can anyone get this featurette on youtube....someone on another forum tried to post it on youtube and it got taken down by fox...odd?
WindoodMay 09, 2012
Agreed.
Lucas said the skywalker story was to miror the temptation of jesus by the devil, what would have happened if he'd said yes. vader said yes, luke made a leap of faith that his dad still had some good in him and rejected the devil, palpitine.
Amazing what people use as a springboard to tell a story.

JuxtaposeMay 09, 2012
.....oh and lets not forget about the big Christian thumbs up "Narnia" received and then "The Golden Compass" got a big thumbs down....don't ask me why...can't even remember?......I wonder what kind of impact Prometheus might make....i hope it does'nt jeopardize it's commercial success...

takka_takka_takkaMay 09, 2012
This featurette has already been posted twice previously so this thread should be locked.
WindoodMay 09, 2012
nothing makes me spew harder than pagan gibberish, am with g k chesterton on that one. It's more likely they aren't based on any pagan stories at all, but there is one human psyche that tells stories and the ones that stick get written down.
I've always seen the bible as a collection of stories explaining how less scientifically aware people explained their surroundings to themselves, but not anything for me to live bu today at all. they were never intended to be collected into one book, they were originally seperate books. probably harder to spot the inconsistencies and glaring contradictions in them that way.

JuxtaposeMay 09, 2012
i'm with you....this threads gonne get locked....i just know it...should have never brought up religion!

@ B1-66ER
I completely and totally agree with you. I remember when I went to see "Knowing" in theaters starring Nicholas Cage. At the very end of the film, you discover that the Earth is being wiped out, and aliens are the ones who intervene and perpetuate mankind by selecting two special children to live on another world and repopulate the species. For those of us who were "left behind," or didn't make the cut, rather; it was a very sad and hopeless tale. The underlying connotation was that mankind has been influenced by these "other" beings all along, because like Juxtapose put it, nobody wants to believe that a pure and holy deity created mankind and died to redeem us. The fact that somebody would lay down his life to save me is very horrific, indeed.
At any rate, let me put it this way - like you B1-66ER, I am tired of Hollywood telling me how the earth was created and how mankind came to be, or how it's going to end. It takes more faith for me to believe that alien beings seeded this planet than it does for me to believe in a 'God' who created us. I am disappointed that Scott would take this move in that direction. I don't want another filmmaker "telling" the origins of mankind - this movie would have done absolutely fine without that.
In my opinion, Ridley Scott should have remained true to his original concept of making this film a "xenomorph" origins film. I think he could have done that without all of this "origins of mankind" garbage. I'm with you on that one!

B1-66ERMay 09, 2012
@windood
"Anyone looking for their own personal metaphysics to be made into a film to brainwash others needs help."
Hahaha your last statement is exactly what Ridley Scott is doing with Prometheus and thus reinforces my point.
@Frantz
"there are more gigeresque things in Prometheus than in all alien Franchise ..."
That seems to be the selling point doesn't it, and apparently they've got you hook, line and sinker. Oh except there's one thing missing that the rest of the alien franchise has, and that's... an Alien designed by HR Giger.
@VaderTime
"It's a movie. It's entertainment for the masses. It's not a vehicle for promoting Eric Von Daniken's, misguided propaganda about ancient aliens."
I'm sure the History channel could make the same argument.
@Azalard
Exactly. Hollywood should be delivering us what everyone else is trying to tell me Prometheus is supposed to be-entertainment. Leave the philosophical explorations to those with less to loose from being unpopular (money biases everything).

JuxtaposeMay 09, 2012
@azalard
...bear in mind tho....the movie is perhaps about people seeking our origins....what they find might not be our origins....maybe it's a trap?....their is also the notion that we were not created by these beings but rather helped along during the ages (in terms of technology).....so no need for any of us to get all fired up until we have actually seen the movie...was just saying?
WindoodMay 09, 2012
I was referring to fans, directors have always done that. Its fanboys complaining about films they haven't seen that i find funny
