MemberOvomorphMay-09-2012 11:20 PMOk, so I'll try not to go off on a crazy diatribe. I was watching Stephen Hawking's Brave New World on the tele and was blown away by the sophistication of the new tech emerging. There was a story about a robot that had the ability to learn, an exoskeletal suit that allowed a person to lift 200 lbs, and coupled with James Cameron's "Planetary Resources" announcement, it seems like all the elements are coming together, except.......................... The Alien
Ok people, wasn't being literal about the whole alien world coming to fruition, just kinda amazed at the recent advances in technology. By the way, with respect to the whole flying cars thing, I'm not saying its going to be a reality just saying that is what the media portrayed as the next evolution of transportation. As, far as WALL-E goes Takka, I got a chill down my spine when I watched it. Afterwards I couldn't go to wal-mart again. Really, that movie could possible be future of humanity.........In space fat has no gravity.
Yea, I can envision that day. There will be all these wide eyed optimistic fools willing to embrace the aliens with open arms. Then......... screams of terror will follow.
If something like the Xenomorph were to be real, then our world would truly be messed up... Then all we would need is Predators :D.
But no, i seriously hope Sci-Fi becomes a reality. Sometimes i get the feeling that (jokes aside, seriously) i was born in the wrong time.
I hope to make a career out of something space-based. It's more of a fantasy, than anything, really. Every time the space-shuttle launches, i laugh. It's pathetic, really. Not impressive at all. Tons of fuel, smoke, and brute force to get that thing in space. Im not impressed... Real spaceships+Being able to travel long distances (Gliese 581 G, anyone?)=JIMP.
As for That series with Stephen Hawking, i've never caught it. I'm gonna have to watch it. I remember seeing a preview, and saying to myself "F***, YES!"...But completely forgot about it. Darn it all...
I empathize with ya on that note, Pren. I'm also still annoyed by all media in my youth that portrayed the first decades of the 21st century with flying cars, space travel to the outer solar system etc.... Well at least we got the internet.
I'd like to keep cars on the ground :D. Im a car enthusiast myself. But Spaceships=The only way to traverse space. Light-year travel=The way to go.
Honestly. Imagining myself stepping onto the surface of an alien planet is not something that i can't comprehend. I would have to take a good hour or so to recollect myself; and cope with the fact that im on a different planet. I would be unbelievably excited.
Why, you ask? It's simple. This is the physical world. Nature has given us everything, and we have to use what was given to us. It's just a matter of finding a way there. Nothing more. The reality of it? A very real one, indeed.
I'd probably go exploring without some condom over my body. If i see some small animal, i'll pick it up, i don't care :P. An alien fruit? I'll eat it... As long as it doesn't make a face start to form on my ass, which would eventually start talking to me.
YUM!
I agree in that we don't need flying cars. When you crash into another car normally you crash once. When you are in a flying car and hit another flying car, you crash twice, once into them and then into the ground - it's a bad idea.
This is a bad time for space travel too now that the shuttle has been retired and nothing left to replace it with. But it looks as though the future of space travel will be done by private enterprises like Richard Branson's Virgin spaceships.
And Prenihilty, you do not make pysical contact with an alien creature without first knowing what the side effects will be. Look what happens to the cast in Prometheus.
Downloading brave new world S01E01.
Ironically the title "brave new world" is from a book by Aldous Huxley. He draws up a futuristic society which depraves in sex and drug use.
In the end its all about the inner voyage. I mean whats the point in going to the moon. Its rocky, nice view over earth, impossible to have a barbecue and drink a couple of beers. Its the nice thing about movies, u dont have to see it to be there.
I'm gonna get the Blu Ray version of Prometheus and call on the spirits to enhance my experience. F*** flying cars. I want a 300 bhp rear drive BMW.
Sorry, but no. The future will be nothing like Alien or Prometheus or Terminator, or Blade Runner.
The only accurate portrayal of the future I have seen in a movie yet is Wall-E. And despite it having been made for kids, I find it vastly more frightening than any of those other films combined simply because it is the only one that is remotely believable.
takka_takka_takka I like your point of view
I see the future more like fallout-games. just without humans
@ Pren. Oh Ok. But you did mention eating alien fruit. I'll let you try it first and see what happens to you.

You sound like you've got this all planned out *sarcasm*...
I never said anything about aliens. You got it completely twisted.
