You have to remember that a 15 nowadays could been 18 years ago. Aliens and Alien could pass for a 15, they may have to make just a few changes but those movies like the Terminators are far from Gory etc. Yes movies like The Thing would not make a 15 because they are more extream in the Gore and Shock value.... Alien went for the unseen Horror elements that make you jump.

Running Time... 123 minutes ?? So do they include end credits in that??

Extremely dissapointing :( I dont care about 18-rated gore....but i had hoped that this movie would deal with topics and concepts that resulted in a 18-rating. Downer.....

Why are people honestly whining about a 15 rating? It wasn't rated 12A/PG-13, what else do you want? I legitimately cannot think of the last time I saw an 18 in the cinema... Drive was, what, a year ago? It has a relatively small budget and was fairly niche. Maybe there are more recent examples, but they are very infrequent, regardless. There was no way Prometheus would have been rated 18, simply for the fact that it takes huge amounts to actually do so. Unless the characters are dropping f and c-bombs every few minutes and heads are being curb-stomped into strawberry jam, then 15 is quite what it should be. Also, CanadaPhil: I'm pretty sure Scott said in the Empuire interview a few weeks back that his final cut was [i]just[/i] under 2 hours without credits, so if we guess at 5 minutes of credits, it'll probably be 118, roughly. Anyway, I have my fake-IMAX midnight tickets booked. So hype.

i dont care if the thing or donald duck or whatever gets an 18-rating. Movies with realistic violence and realistic effects of violence, and with sinister adult topics....get an 18-rating. Prometheus didnt....that is very very dissapointing.

Deep inside I was hoping for a 30 rating, so that only those who had experienced Alien before any sequels would be allowed to watch it.... Come on, guys, 18, 15, 17 what's the difference? The movie is exactly as Scott conceived it, with no cuts. It just happens that nowadays 15 years olds are less naive than 18 years olds of a couple of decades ago. Having it 18-rated would only mean explicit sex or drugs abuse or whatever is coinceived as immoral by the establishment that evaluates it. I don't see how any of these themes would fit in Prometheus.

Well to be a 18 it would have to have even more gore and blood and i dont think exploding Xenos and Jockey Heads or Baby Squids would do that. I think people dont realise what a 15 can contain it has a lot of freedom, a 15 is damn close to 18, a PG13 is miles off a R I seen many 15 movies, that have a fair amount of swearing just not excessive really vulgar ones. I seen 15 movies that show nice bounding Tits lol. You can have nude scenes in a 15 as long as it dont show whats inbetween the legs and aslong as their is no sugestive sex scenes. two naked people having a hug and kiss would pass for 15. Some one telling someone to F---- off or saying No Sh-- can pass for a 15 A 15 is much closer to Alien than a Harry Potter lol A PG13 the movie would have to be much closer to Harry Potter than Alien. I think apart from maybe the Chest Burst Scne that Alien if made now would be a 15 easy....

The chestbursting scene is one of very few bloody scenes from Alien. Its a realistic scene and doesnt deliver the violence as 'cartoon-violence'. What Alien delivers in this scene in terms of violence is as shocking as what it delivers in terms of concepts (oral rape, implied sexual sadism etc etc). This is what makes an 18-rated movie. A 15-rating says its basically 'safe'. Movies with alot of violence (movie-violence) tends to get a 15-rating. Movies with very little violence (but realistically rendered violence) tends to get an 18-rating. This day has just sent my expectation of this movie down the drain.

Im extremely happy with a 15 rating, because like Big Dave said, an 18 from back in the day would be a 15 today. Sooooo glad that it isnt a PG-13 or cut.
