Theories and dissapointment?

I really try to pick and choose what I read on the forum but I've been spending more time on the board and have read some of the threads with theories on just about every aspect of the film. Does anyone else seem to think the film might end up being a dissapontment to some? It seems like a lot of people-not everyone-are expecting the film to give all these answers. Personally, I hope it doesn't. Wasnt that what was great about the SJ and LV-246 in the first place? Now I agree that we should be given some answers but, man, peoples theories get deep. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Some are VERY interesting. I just see the film raising more questions than answers. I think the balance of answers and mystery will be the hardest task in making the film great and not just good. In addition, I think with everyone involved stating that this is a stand alone story and all that RS isn't going to be too concerened about answering all the questions risen in Alien. I don't know, just thoughts. While it would suck to dissapoint all who want all the answers, life lives in the shadows and imo questions are a lot more alluring than answers.

I'm new here, but if I may pose some of my own thoughts? First, I am kind of wondering that the lives in this planetary system are much more severe and much more perfected for long, harsh lives than what we know on Earth. If this is a new life form, but in some way (in which I am gathering as the planetary system looks similar to the one in Alien) related to the Xenomorph, perhaps it's ways of catching victims as well as growth (both seem to be very rapid) are evolutionary tactics to ensure the species of said system continue to exist. Maybe the Space Jockeys are used to these creatures, one with these creatures - in the sense of like here on Earth, if you believe in evolution, every living creature came from the same common ancestor. Sharks and lions can attack and eat a human, but yet we still venture into the ocean and the savanna. So, maybe the link with Alien is not exactly in the creature, but in the planetary system, the link is in the environment these creatures (again if more than one) are adapted to live in. My second thought is that perhaps the Xenomorph created us via the Space Jockeys; or, going the other way around, the Space Jockeys bio engineered a creature in which humanity finished the DNA structure of, hence the Xenomorph as we know it. Going with the evolutionary thoughts of the starting paragraph, it does seem that the Space jockeys (going by the one humanoid creature with blue skin that we see in trailers) are themselves either bio-mechanical or adept with such an environment. The Xenomorph is indeed bio mechanical. They seem to share a type of pattern of sorts, even if the Space Jockey (again the one we see) is wearing a suit. Also, it seems both creatures favor a dark, desolate environment. This is only speculation though, and I'm only saying this via the visual information in the trailers; as well, the planet itself does not seem to be a dark place (actually kind of seems Earth desert like environ). I'm sorry - I think I'm losing myself with my second thought. I know where I am trying to go, but not sure (of course, is the nature of speculation) if this is making sense as I hope it is. Another thing I wished to mention: Am I the only one who's noticed that one infected FiField's head (as well as the exploding 'head' in the lab) seem to be taking on the shape of a Xenomorph egg?

On second thought I would like to see the creature that emerged from the Space Jockey classic (even if through a hologram or flashback)

I have complete faith in RS. When I said "difference between it being great and not just good" I meant in other, non-obsessed fans eyes. I'm pretty sure we will all think it's the best film EVER. I'm just worried about the non-believers. But to be honest, in regards to those moviegoers, it would be better to spoon feed it and answer all the questions. Most like their entertainment spoon-fed. Not a bad thing and I like my entrtainment spoon fed some of the time but I'm usually on the other end of the spectrum. I want the film to do good. I want a sequel. But I'm afraid if it turns out to be what I would love it to be it wont appeal to mass audiences. I think it would get good dritical reception but not do good at the BO. What we need to do, all of us, is go see it multiple and I mean MULTIPLE times. Lets beat out Avengers and Dark Knight Rises and all that. I'm boycotting every other film this summer and going to see Prometheus that many times instead!

No. No way what so ever man. I have complete and utter faith in Ridley Scott and H R Giger. They're BOTH sitting right in their Element and "Raison D'etre" with this thing...and as Stephen Tyler & Joe Perry of "Aerosmith" so elequently & Excellently penned... This thing is gonna end up being a... ..."Train kept A Rollin'"

I only want a couple answers, like who the guy was in the chair with his chest busted out in that crashed/forced landed ship. And I have a feeling, having seen the soundtrack listing, it might actually be answered................... And I'm happy having some questions answered, others not, and new questions asked. :-D

well, apparently they brought in Lindelof for his being able to inject 'mystery' into the script. He also scaled back the alien-prequel nature of it: "So the original script was more of an Alien prequel than yours? Yes. The job that I was hired to do was to scale back the familiar tropes or symbology of what we think of when we think of an Alien movie. When I say Alien to you, you think face-hugger, chest-burster, eggs, acid blood, queen — the concentration of those things was much higher in Jon’s script than they are in Prometheus." http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/05/11/damon-lindelof-prometheus-life-after-lost/3/

I completely agree with you, Deckard. Part of what made the original Alien so fascinating was the additional here-and-there mythological detail that kept the story playing in one's head long after the credits rolled. That very artistic approach, obviously, was in part the inspiration behind the creation of the film at hand. It would make sense if Prometheus ended up being a steady mixture of revelation and further heightened mystery. I even remember Lindelof suggesting this idea in an interview when he was asked about the possibilities of sequel and how it would drift away from the Alien franchise even more, essentially leading to an entirely new storyline with its own mythology. Good post. :)
