Warning/ Distress Signal

I know there is uncertainty about it being the same planet, but if we are introduced to the "Space Jockeys" as villains/evil, why would they send out a warning signal for ships?
Maybe the "Space Jockeys" aren't truly evil. What if someone from the Prometheus is flying the Engineer/ "Space Jockey"Ship?
What if David tries to steal the secrets of the "Space Jockey" by flying their ship back to Earth and the "Space Jockey"/ Engineer commandeers the Prometheus to stop him?
We have seen David messing with the controls at the Space Jockey command center. Could he be flying the "Derelict"?

I've never thought of the Space Jockey as either hostile or indifferent or friendly...there's no signs to determine an attitude. But I assume he set down the derelict knowing he was infected, and desired to warn others of at least his own kind that there was danger onboard his vessel...like a plague ship would do. I don't see David in a position to fly an alien ship because I can't see enough in the trailers to indicate that ability...a massive amount of fragmented images and scenes confuses that and other conclusions

The beacon originally thought to be a distress signal was actually a warning that was transmitted via an "acoustic beacon" that reapeated every twelve seconds.
The description given in the derelict said it was mechanical and not bio-mechanical. There appeared to be a single moving part, a piston or similar that went back an forth on a rail.
The beacon was situated near the space jockey's final resting place. There were smashed "urns" on the floor.

Interesting topic. I agree with RS the Engineer/Space Jockey was a true mystery for me. A lot of the Dark Horse comics addressed this but it felt unfinished. The beacon in the movie Aliens had since stop functioning (why the terraformer were not aware of it's existence). When the wildcat team showed up, the alien ship had broken apart (terraforming activities).

I'm a little foggy on the signal from Alien... but wasn't the "twist" that Ripley discovers the signal was not a distress call for help... but rather a warning to stay away? I can't remember... anyone know?
It really does not seem like the Space Jockeys as we call them are heroic. They may not be evil, but they certainly don't seem to be protectors of humans.
I could be wrong... SO wrong. I won't know for sure until I actually see the film... right?
I'm not getting a vibe that anything on this planet is "pro-human race". Including the Space Jockey, Engineers, and certainly not Hammerpedes.
P.S. I'm predicting Fifield and Milburn get messed up and mutated/killed on the first trip to the temple. Not the second trip. I don't care what the movie soundtrack says. And... David takes "living worm goo" from the cansiter and infect Holloway on purpose. I am predicting this now. :)

Yes, the distress call was a warning and not an SOS. Mother and Weyland Industries misinformed our poor crew about this. It was only after our Proactive Ripley recompiled it did they find the truth.

Can anyone post a snippet of what it sounds like in the Director's cut?
I'm asking 'cause I'm lazy and think that someone might have it already as an MP3 or whatnot. It sounds vaguely "linguistic", but certainly not human if I'm correct.

what tells you it was adressed to humans? probably to other spacejockeys/engineers IMHO. So they still can remain vilains towards other species;)

This is like hunters that wear orange vests during hunting season (the hunters are easily seen by other human hunters) but the prey is color blind. Or something silly like that. Thanks Gem]n[ for the deleted scene.

Thx., Gem.
Yes! That's it. It definitely sounds like them talking to each other. I like that they messed with the pitch to make them sound really BIG. That's consistent with the original 27ft. height that was given for the LV-426 SJ.

To me much of this speculation makes no sense. I will list reasoning. I would like to say that I love and respect all comments and questions posted by my fellow members, but from my perspective and the direction the film is pointing the signal from alien makes no sense...at least from what we know at this point from trailers of prometheus and the rest
first if the space jockeys technology was so far ahead of ours i think a transmitted signal would have reach its intended audience across galaxies and universes
second even though we are unsure on how the derelict flys we assume the jockey is in the pilots seat that being the case he took off already knowing he was infected....he didnt get infected sittting in the chair...right
third why would he send a warning signal to stay away and even land the ship why not destroy the ship...im sure they have some type of explosive...right
fourth the organism burst from him while still in chair why didnt he get out of chair...as we see from the trailer the chair wraps around you for whatever purpose....so why didnt the jockey get out the chair....
question questions.....smh

@ Patch - on that previous discussion thread - the one that was blocked because the conversation was getting too heated - the forum police removed my link. The one with Rodney Dangerfield. I put it on there to kind of calm everybody and help them to laugh a bit, but I guess the forum police thought otherwise.
Though I think people should act maturely on threads, I don't necessarily agree with the forum police running around and shutting down/deleting threats just because a topic is getting heated. But that's just me...
