Fox Marketing = Too Much Revealing

I swear, who is in charge of trailers and sneak peeks over at Fox? Doesn't Ridley have any say? It's like each time they release a new clip or photos they decide to make it a spoiler or what appears to be a spoiler. I have the sneaking suspicion that when we go see this movie, we'll be left with filler and maybe one "oh shit" moment. Too many juicy bits have already been revealed and it's such a shame. I know, I get it, summer box office is competitive with DKR, Spider-man, and what have you and each studio is killing for the top spot, so Fox decides let's get the Alien fan base rock hard and drive the point home with even more spoilers. Or it could be they're going for the younger fan base and giving them the shock factor with those all-too-famous trailer moments. At the end, it just comes down to it being a spoiled movie masked as "clever marketing". I for one have had enough. To filter what comes out in regards to Prometheus, I go to Google news, type in Prometheus and sure enough the first six or so articles talk about how the new material are nothing but spoiler galore. A bit premature of me to write this then, you say? Not having seen the new footage and all. Not really, the last international trailer killed so much for me in addition to already knew that I hope I can enjoy it like someone going in a virgin. So, I say, on with the movie. Release it now Fox, you've already done a bloody good job of spoiling your Act 3! This all coming from the guy whose last post was about being calming and only seeing five minutes of footage. Yeah, make it like 10 minutes, and all of it the best stuff! Damn you Fox!

Stop going to forums such as these and stop searching the film on Google.... problem solved! Can't change the over all picture yourself...but you can change yours!

Awww, no don't worry nothing has been spoiled, the stuff released isn't that much and they have such a tight cap on this movie that the stuff released is probably altered.

@ambrosiah Please do a careful/close reading before posting next time. My post was about the handling of the material by Fox and Company. It is not only me, but a general consensus that Prometheus has tipped its hand far too much. In comparison to similar tent-pole films to be released in the coming months, there is still a shroud of mystery and anticipation that exists. Granted, Prometheus is a mere two weeks away, but there isn't as much of a feeing of urgency (please see this movie) in whatever is released from Warner Bros and Sony in regards to The Dark Knight Rises and Spider-man, respectively. Fox, in their attempt to strike first and lock in at least a two week #1 position at the BO is nearly beginning for views by revealing so much material which insiders themselves have deemed spoilers. Damn shame, considering the movie is tracking well. The issue at hand, really, is that Scott and Lindelof in previous interviews (at the onset of production) stated that this was a film separate from Alien, but from a marketing standpoint that is suicide especially when you are going against major, established franchises like Spider-man and Batman. So what does Fox do to counter this (Scott's claim it is an original film separate from Alien)? They throw EVERYTHING they got to convince us that this is an Alien prequel, to get the franchise fan base locked in. In the process of doing that they, in my opinion, have revealed too much. So, ambrosiah, it is not my problem to avoid Prometheus. As a fan I shouldn't be responsible to avoid a film I look forward to so as to not spoil it come the night of its release. I'm a member of other forums for other films and I have to say, that with what little has been revealed, whatever we may come up with as a community is nothing to the FACTS discovered here due to the footage released by Fox. So far, most, if not all, major summer films have done an excellent job of locking in their audiences without revealing too much. Prometheus is a major failure in this regard. I'm sure the movie will be magnificent (I'll be there at midnight, 3D IMAX, the works) but the marketing is absurd and poorly done (that is, it reveals far too much).

I think the marketing is anything but a failure. Fox and Scott know exactly what they're doing and I'm sure they'll have left the best for the actual films release. I actually think what they've done is quite clever, building momentum and generating huge interest in the lead up to the actual release of the movie. At the end of the day what we have seen is 2 minute clips here and there which show enough to get us excited without giving too much away. I'm sure when we actually get to see the movie there will be plenty of "oh my god" moments.

Well considering I've already seen Battleship before the official release, and the trailer for it that I saw today pretty much showed major parts of the final battle sequence. I think Fox might be right on par. There's no point trying to keep everything secret when there is profit that NEEDS to be made. =))

"Prometheus is a major failure in this regard" HMMM, that is why marketing professionals are writing articles on how great a job has been done on the marketing efforts and are trying to figure out how to reproduce it. I personally think this has been the best marketing job I have seen in a long time. Maybe because the marketing is targeting me and giving me exactly what I want in the format I can consume. My only problem, it just isn't coming fast enough. It is just a slow tease to get you worked up, and I am worked up. Hell, they even have all of us generating interesting theories and stories to bring in more people. I even suspect RS' hand with this site, but maybe it is because Bughunter and his crew are doing such a great job. It is a great site for those looking for information and excitement before getting to see the movie.

I don't think so. there are hardly any TV ads of prometheus here in asia. I don't know about US and europe but there is hardly any TV or poster ads here. I have seen lot of poster ads for other films even if they are not that good but prometheus marketing seems to be on the internet.

I think the trailers have been good.... The TV Spots however not so......... They are the spoilers..... and the last few have ruined and shown the outcome of 3 key stage events.... The only spoilers we have in the Trailers are.... We see that the Blue Guy is Engineer/Jockey and he walks upto the Chair and maybe its him in the chair..... thus they showed the Jockey.... but that what they had to do to drum up excitement. They showed Shaw in the Medpod with what people would associate with a Face Hugger but does not tell us what happens to it. And we see that mutated crew go on a rampage. And finally we see a Snake like creature enter someones suit... Milburn. These are not major spoilers really.
