Your thoughts on so called link to Alien

BigDave
MemberDeaconMay 17, 20121272 Views20 RepliesRegarding the links to Alien in this movie....
Here are some questions regarding how you would feel about if it was not covered.
So would you be disapointed YES/NO and maybe Dispointment ratting out of 10
1) We get no explanation or clues as to what the Xeno is/was even if only vague?
2) We get no explanation or clues to how the Derelict got to LV 426 and why/when?
3) We get no explanation or clues to why it had Eggs on it and what for?
4) We get no explanation or clues as to why it landed and why the signal was set off?
5) We get no explanation or clues as to what happened to the Jockey in the Chair?
I think for Ridley to tie in to Alien he would have to answer even if not in depth at least 3 of those questions, there is that last 8 mins of the movie that is plenty of time to answer those especially 2-4.
Or is Ridley going to give us something else that we would see Alien DNA from and we can then draw connection to that as something that preceeds the Xenos, and then in our heads have the questions, oh so that/those at a latter date would be how the Eggs get onto the Derelict.... but would leave it open to speculative questions or even a potential Sequel that is again set between Prometheus and Alien and this sequel may answer those 5 questions?

Yeap June 2nd i will find out what they have done with the story! 9PM IMAX manchester.
BUT didnt RS state that some of the above issues will be addressed to a level on prometheus? as in the cargo? where it was going? and why it landed on LV426? maybe not the Xeno being creating. and again didnt they state that its where Mummy meets Daddy?? if no Qs are answered then i would be quite disapointed, as a stand alone film it should be great...but im guessing they are trying tp play "curve ball" here as in tell you one thing build up it up and then totally throw u when u watch it.

On a scale of 1 to 10 - 1, being very disappointed, and 10 being extremely satisfied.
1) We get no explanation or clues as to what the Xeno is/was, even if only vague? - 1
2) We get no explanation or clues to how the Derelict got to LV 426 and why/when? - 1
3) We get no explanation or clues to why it had Eggs on it and what for? -1
4) We get no explanation or clues as to why it landed and why the signal was set off? -1
5) We get no explanation or clues as to what happened to the Jockey in the Chair? -1
I think most of us would be lying to say that we wouldn't be disappointed if these mysteries weren't uncovered in some way. I believe a lot of people are trying to act tough and say things like, "Nah. That wouldn't bother me." But deep down inside, we really and truly want to know how the xenomorph came to be, even though we all agree that we don't want to see another movie featuring this creature to the same extent as in the other adaptations.
Great post, BigDave! I have a feeling that you and I think alike!

I have always thought the link to Alien, was simply the style of filming, and other elements. The acid blood, the xeno attack noise of the alien(we can hear it in the audio clip released). I am 100% sure there is a crap load more, but I guess we will find out June 1/8 .. thanks guys ! This is my favorite site for the last 7 months!!

Also, to answer your thread, I think all of those questions will be left unanswered....leading to Prometheus 2

I did think we would see a scene not set at same time period as Prometheus, like the Water Fall scene, that would show the Derelict on LV 426 and show maybe the Cargo etc.
But then maybe when Ridley said a link... he could mean just in DNA so maybe we will see some creature at the end (Maybe Shaws fully grown Baby) that looks like the Xeno in many ways......
I was told by someone ages ago that the Proto Xeno looks like a cross between a Xeno and Cthulhu in that it has like tenticles near its mouth and it also has 2 maybe 4 tenticles...... the description and image he showed what it looked simular to was indeed, simular to the Mural one that shows the Humaniod and some creature..... but i was told about the creature before that image even come out.
Now the so called Indian Twiter Girl says that the Squid grows into a creature that is described exactly the same only she expands and says it uses a tenticle/tongue to implant something in peoples throats that causes them to change.
She also says that at the end, Shaw and Vickers are chassed by some really big Alien looking creatures and the movie then fades to black.....
Well if thats the case or simular maybe we can then draw to that the Proto Xeno is in this movie and a Organism that maybe eventually gives birth to teh Xeno we come to know and love or not so.....
This would go with how Ridley said this is where the Mommy meets Daddy and thus a Organism conceived in this movie has a decendant path to the Xeno... i.e Xenos Grandma?
I guess that would leave us satisfied.... but i hope that the movie does then hint as to how those Eggs got in that Derelict and why?
If that event is set after Prometheus then hopefully it would be touched upon in a sequel.

I'm in for the aesthetics really... And I guess that some of the questions [[if not all] don't really need a huge set of explanatory graphics. They are pretty much straight-forward and logical. Except for the global History of the Enginners IMO.

Yes i think Ridley needs to be very very carefull...
I think they was working on a movie that had a lot of links untill they brought the clown from lost on board who i dont think cares if he pissed off Alien fanboys or all over Aliens...
This guy would do Predator and then explain the orgins to being created on Earth under the Sea, in the year 2010 via a Octopus having sex with a Crab... Thats how crazy his work is....
If he did Star Wars prequels... then it would be that actually we find out that Vader was not Lukes Father, he was a Woman who had a Sex Change, or maybe not and that Obi Won is Lukes Father......... only Vader never knew that.
And only if Jeremy Kyle was in their universe he would have found out he was not the Father..... lol
Anyway onto my point.....
I went and saw two movies and they had Prometheus Trailer and i would say that most and i am talking like 75%+ never had a clue what that Trailer was or had any interest in it.
So that leaves Sci Fi fans and Alien Fanboys.... the Sci Fi fans may by into this being a good movie, but if Ridley does not satisfy the Fanboys to some degree then indeed it could do him no favours with any of his Sci Fi work in future. As Blade Runner fans may have concerns that their prequel/sequel could end up being a disapointment....

Ok so I think your questions are great BigDave! But the YES/NO rating system? I'm not using a rating system. I'm either disappointed or I'm not... a 1 to 10 level doesn't really matter.
1) We get no explanation or clues as to what the Xeno is/was even if only vague? I would be disappointed. At least give us a quick simple answer.
2) We get no explanation or clues to how the Derelict got to LV 426 and why/when? I would be disappointed. At least give us a quick simple answer.
3) We get no explanation or clues to why it had Eggs on it and what for? I would be disappointed. We need to know this!
4) We get no explanation or clues as to why it landed and why the signal was set off? I would be disappointed. We need to see this on screen!
5) We get no explanation or clues as to what happened to the Jockey in the Chair? I would be disappointed. We need to see this on screen!

Here is what i think and hope Ridley does....
There are four ways he can explain this to us....
1) Would be to show us some scene that would tie up not a link to Alien as in the Xeno.... but a link to tie in the Derelict/Cargo on LV426. This i assumed would be done after the movie and in a flash back... like Water Fall scene.
We could see a Visual Narative... with a time frame i,e it comes up.... 500 years earlier or say 1575AD then cut to a Derelict flying through space (it dont have to show it take off, dont have to show Cargo being created on loaded on board) then we see the Pilot in his Chair, then he notices something wrong... we cut to the Cargo of Eggs and one Egg is open..... That would do the trick a short what 2 min clip, maybe it could go further and show the Derelict then crash landing on LV426 etc..... it does not have to have lots of detail.
Just a scene with a good idea of when in time it took place, a shot of the Derelict in Space, then Landing on LV 426 and a shot of the Jockey (before he fossilised etc) and the Egg Chamber with one open is good enough....
The above would work, it would explain Alien Derelict, and after this scene Ridley can shut the door on Alien and the Xeno we get our answers and can look forwards to what new creatures Ridley will explore in his sequel.
But for it to work better there has to be another scene prior that explains why it had the Cargo and left hence....... 2)...
2) Show during the Hologram scene, the Engineer either tells David, or he finds out from Hologram, that the Engineers created something in past that went wrong and nearly killed off their race, and that they eventually contained said deadly creation and put it onboard a ship that they dispatched away to quarantine the Organism/threat but the mission did not manage to get to its intended destination.
They could expand on that and explain the Pilot had to sacrefice himself by setting it down to the nearest safe place it could find and warn us (Engineer) about it.
Maybe he could then explain that a few more of these things was lose and killed off the rest of the Engineers apart from himself...
This would also explain Alien but in less detail and again would satisfy the fans and allow Ridley to explore a new direction and Organism.
3) Ridley maybe with his Mommy Meets Daddy statement could be going for either that the Organism created in his movie is the Proto Xeno and maybe eventually leads to the Xenos... but maybe we wont see that part of the Evolution in this movie but leave it open for Prometheus 2.
So we get to see Shaws Baby become some Xeno Queen type Organism.
This would leave many questions, more than Alien. Because Ridley could go for a Prometheus 2 and then we would expect this Alien to be explained for the reasons for the Xeno in Alien. so that Prometheus 2 becomes the Alien Prequel.... but then that dont help Ridleys cause if he wants to steer away from the Xeno.
If he goes the above route only this Organism is new and has nothing to do with the Xeno in Alien, then he would not have answered the questions to Alien unless he fits in a scene like 2)...
4) He is going to go for this movie being set aside from Alien, and explain that it will not mention of even touch upon the events that led to Alien. i.e there would be no explanation of the Xeno, the Derelict that lands on LV426 or Eggs.
It would be explained that what ever killed off the Engineers is not the Xeno or nothing that has much to do with it, and that we will see the birth of a new Organism and Xeno ish creature....
This would be the biggest disapointment.....
The safest bet would be Number 3 and that in the scene when David sees the Holograms and maybe makes contact with Engineer, they would explain that some Organism they created nearly killed them all off, but the threat is no more as they shipped what was left off LV223.

You see i think if he does not do one or more of 1-3 above.
Then Alien fanboys and maybe Prometheus ones would be asking and wanting answers and it would either put pressure on Prometheus 2 to answer those questions left unanswered which would eiher
1) Get answered but then take maybe the edge of Ridley exploring a new direction.
2) Not get answered and then Ridley will get hassled and bad press for eventual answers or we would be left unhappy....
The scenario answered in 1-3 even when done with not much explanation, would allow Ridley to shut the door on the Alien Xeno and allow him to get praised for that and for fans to take on board and enjoy what ever other direction he wants to take the Universe of Alien....
Ridley did say, that the last 8 mins will tie in and link to Alien and we would see Alien DNA this could be done via my plot 1) for last scene, or plot 3.
The thing is having the end show a new Xeno alien type creature that we would assume would be the progenitor to the Xeno, would pretty much make this movie more of a Prequel than the explanations i think i would have given.
If Ridley wants to avoid the Xeno as its been done to death, well creating a new creature that we would assume eventually give rise to the Xeno is not going to be the answer. (if he explains it to not be the mother or connection to the Xeno then that would still leave unanswered questions).
It will lead to so many in continuity errors..... about how little the Weyland Company or Earth knows about the Xeno, if indeed a Prometheus 2 carries on with a Xeno type alien progenitor.
Basically to the same level that AVP did in that "hang on so some humans get to know about the Xeno way before Alien but then dont know about it like 120 years latter" only AVP would have a excuse of not being Cannon....
But then again we do have Lindelof on board and every one knows about his mind F$£% and series of answered questions and in continuity (i swear he wrote the Bible).

I believe the revelation at the end of Prometheus is not a link to Alien but a Lindelof take on Scooby-Doo. You see in every episode of Scooby-Doo, Mystery Inc. arrives at a strange place with even more bizarre and otherwordly characters. After Mystery inc. investigates and this is followed by an action sequence we always find out it's just a guy in a suit.

I think that all of the above mentioned topics have been among, if not probably, the most debated ones on the Alien forums so far. Good call for summarizing them.
It goes without saying that we will all be disappointed if any of the questions will go unanswered. However due to the slight footage we have observed so far we can clearly identify a sense of urgency and threat even from the part of the Engineers (pile of bodies + the hologram where a whole team of SJs – anyway, more than 3 according to the latest vids – is fleeing the compound). This is the sole reason I keep a hope for those answers and its link with Alien. (e.g. of possible link - After the experiment on a new bioweapon has gone severely wrong one of the Engineers who has been impregnated/infected takes up the task of quarantining the entire cargo on a nearby deserted planet/moon (LV426) - knowing that its chance of survival is limited).
Alien is too big of a success in order to go back to and touch upon, which we all agree with. However Alien fans have been waiting for those answers a long time now. I think it would be wrong from their part to market this movie as an Alien Prequel and to justify this marketing campaign on the simple fact that the events in Prometheus precede those of Alien & they take place in the same universe - and nothing more.
May 17, 2012
My impression from all the trailers, etc. (not to mention all the interviews and such done so far) is that they haven't been marketing it as an "Alien" prequel at all... unless you count the logo & sound effects that they used in the first trailer and the ones after it.
Hardcore fans of the "Alien" films (the first one, anyway) do recognize some design and story elements that connect to the original film series, but the average movie-going public (who they better hope comes out to see this movie if they want to make oodles of cash) aren't noticing those things.
May 17, 2012
Ok i get it.....
So....
Velma is Shaw...
Daphne is Vickers...
Shaggy is Fifeld....
Fred is Holloway...
Scooby is well the dog from Lost!
And they all actually do survive in the movie, and it is revealed that the Space Jockey is Weyland in a suit and then Alien is also again Weyland in a suit and Mystrey solved and Prometheus 2 happens on the Island of lost....
Thus Promethus is a Lost Prequel....
Yep that sounds just as odd as some of his plots lol

May 17, 2012
@John D.
And thats the whole thing.....
Ridley may wanted to go for a more Alien link and so did Spaihts, i hope we get to read their ideas and draft once the movie is out....
But then they get Lindelof onboard and a concern for me is that Ridley has pretty much been led on a leash and gone for what ever he has gone for.
I went to see two films over last week or so and i saw Prometheus on Trailers twice and the one movie no body else seemed to know or pay attention to what it was. In the other a few seemed to have some idea that it was a space movie lol....
So thats the general public.... oh movies was American Pie one and Safe both 15.
So that tells you the general public are only going to find this movie as interesting as Battleship Tops....
General Sci Fi fans may have more interest and knowledge and they could see the movie and enjoy it for what it is....
But its the Alien fanbase that are really interested in this movie, i would say 80% on here are on here because Prometheus is based on the Alien Universe and i would expect half of that to want the answers....
Then maybe the rest are just Ridley fans who admire his work in general, and maybe are bigger Blade Runner fans than Alien, and may even not have no interest in Aliens or Alien 3....
So Ridley is going to have a tough time to get the none Sci Fi fans or even general ones on board, and that means if he goes and pisses off the Alien fanbase then he really does limit the potential for Prometheus 2 as far as being any kind of hit.
For this reason i do think we would see a explanation....
And it only has to go as far as that number 2 Scene i put above, and by that i mean that the whole Engineer Hollogram and running scene, would explain to David about something the Engineers created or came across that nearly wiped them out that they then had to send to another place or attempted to take the so they thought contained threat off their Outpost.
That would do the trick would it not...
We could then go.... ahhhhhhh, so the Xeno nearly kills them off, they secure the rest of the Eggs on a Ship and leave to take them away only it crashed and thats why it made a warning, to Warn the remaineder Jockeys... " look guys i could not get those Bugs to where we wanted, the cargo is compremised so i am having to land on this baron moon near by, i may not make it back. if you get this message you know where the Cargo is and that it is compremised"
You get the picture... we dont have to se no Eggs, no Derelict going to LV 426, A long as that Hologram scene tells the story of how a Organism they came across, killed them nearly all off and they attempted to get rid of it.
