MemberOvomorphMay 18, 20121909 Views27 RepliesHas there been any attempt at giving a name to the 'xeno'? Xenomorph as a name is so general, anything in the Alien universe could be called that. Seems there should be some other name for the creature, even if the fans name it, take votes, lol.
I read the novel of Alien long, long ago but can't remember what it was called in the book, anyone?
Maybe, if we do get to see it's origins in this film or the next, there will be a better understanding of the creature to name it.
I assume the SJ's / Engineers will have a better name in Prometheus, I hope so anyway.

His real name is Charles Wormsley and he has a fondness for fine cigars.
This has been commented on many, many times, this is basic.

But it does get tiresome always calling the creature Alien or Xenomorph, would be like calling a rabbit "Mammal"

I thought his name was Victor Davies Badcock (V.D.Badcock) and he enjoyed dogging and dressing up in women's clothes every other tuesday. Thanks for the update.

It was at one point going to be called the "Star Beast" but that didn't make it thankfully. I like Xenomorph much more as it adds to the anti human quality of the creature. I added a post a bit back where i asked why there was so much resentment to the xenomorph name.
As for trying to give it a proper name with a latin type scientific title seems odd to me. This creature is not related to creatures on earth and also has mechanical qualities, additionally it appears to inherit characteristics of the host meaning that it will change depending on the host. Then there is the crazy life cycle.... to me the xenomorph is actually a device or tool so perhaps rather that a name it should have a description to reflect was it would appear to be designed for such as " Higher Lifeform Hunter and Eradicator Biomechanical Construct.

In the "fake" leaked Prometheus script, I'm sure I read that the creature in it was also gonna be called "Star Beast". . .

One of the best aspects of this alien is that it has no name, it is just referred to.
Star beast would suck.
Xenomorph, Internecivus Raptus and Linguafoeda Acheronsis are just abominable attempts to encase it in the fan fiction universe (or AvP), which most of the time produce only results that range from bad to awful.
Man cannot capture it, cannot tame it, cannot use it, giving it a name is just sour grapes.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

It´s a matter of point of view.
It´s "xenomorphic" to us humans, but quite antropomorphic to, let´s say, a spider, or a squid.
So the baptism name "xenomorph" is a tribute to the fact that we haven´t seen alien beings enough to start considering how familiar the poor beast is.

Seems like there is also a resentment in discussing anything to do with the "Alien"'s ties to this new film, but if the Alien mythos didn't exist, would this film even be discussed this much?
Thanks for the names, I really didn't know these things

I'll call him BOB.

i think the star beast thing was an idea from Alien that got scrapped and then the muppet who came up with the fake script rolled it in there to try and give it some history.
I think its very important not to assign the Xenomorph any human or earthly considerations and i have always thought of it as a "thing" rather than an "it". Plus there is the odd little things it does, like in Alien when it kills Lambert with its tail, its almost sadistic which would imply to me a sort of terrorist like quality and in Aliens when the power gets cut off.....in Alien 3 the dog-xeno blows out the candles. In my mind these are tactical war like actions of what i see as a bioweapon.

That's what it was referred to on set during filming. (Same way the crew named the derelict pilot "space Jockey")
But it has no "official" cannon name.
NoXWordMay 18, 2012
Yes, Big Chap was born together with space jockey, facehugger and chesburster, but unfortunately didn't stick.
I'd use that instead of the x-word anytime.
But this makes me curious about the creatures in Prometheus. What could be their names? (Yes, hammerpede seems to be very likely...)

I'm still calling it BOB.

@David1: you cannot call a species (or a planet) "Bob."
