I have booked my first two viewings on the 1st and 3rd of June, with my regular sc-fi buddies, however trying to coax others to see Prometheus is proving very difficult. All am an trying to do is spead the love, is anyone else having the same problem? I think it's better just to leave the non fans alone, as i'm getting the tag of the 'Prometheus Nutter' at Social Events!

It's weird because to me, Alien was an acquired taste. But what a taste it was! On the flipside, everyone loved Aliens. I'm sorry to tell you but Prometheus is going to be the same way, an acquired taste. Where you and I will still be putting pieces together and coming up with conclusions and answers, people will be on to making dinner, oblivious. As good as you and I feel this movie will be, sadly for others it just wont be that deep. It is what it is.

Brilliant : A new angle to try this weekend and on my male work colleauges! What about female friends, perhaps that there may be a beautiful birth scene in the film? When people ask how my kids or family are, i just try to change the subject to Prometheus, i think i have a problem...... I just guess the majority of people just don't share the same enthusiasm as most of the bods on here?

i think it's fun to buy tickets for friends and family, and get them to agree to go without telling them anything at all about it. We'll see what happens, i hope i don't get the police called on me.

@ shawluv - Great Idea, all of your family members who are squeemish and you are not to keen on, treat them to a free midnight showing of Prometheus. Apart from a few irate phone calls, due to little ginger jimmy's nightmares, you won't see them again........

I'm thinking to do a solid and take my five-year old niece to the gig, and tell her it's the prequel to "Pocahontas". "Disney" rhymes with "Ridley", bound to have some MilkDuds, and hey - who better than to let one learn about one greatest life's lessons: DON'T GO LOOKING FOR SHIT THAT DOESN'T WANT TO BE FOUND. Sorta like X-Mas presents. I bet after this "Scared Straight" theatrical presentation, she'll never look for a gift again before it's either a holiday or a birthday -

sci fi is not for everyone. My prediction, Prometheus gets an Oscar for best director and best special effects with several nominations for all the behind the scenes stuff no one cares about. The beurocrats and critics behind the oscars are not sci fi fantasy fans in general, so getting best picture is probably out no matter what. I predict stellar performances by the actors as well, most are proven very high class in previous work, but this is not a movie genre that captures best actor awards. The movie is hyped up, star studded, and will probably do really well for a genre that typically doesn't perform. It will also do well despite not being based on comic books, toys, or video games, which will be even more impressive. My other prediction is that it's opening won't break records, but word will travel and it will hang around in the theater.

Thats the problem the general public would mayne not know any connection to Alien with this movie, they may not know nothing about this movie... it could apear to be to them... oh another Sci Fi movie like Battleship only not as much action and no really famous Actors... I saw the Trailer twice at pictures and i can tell the others in the audience never really had much of a clue or interest in that Trailer... Another downfall is the cast..... Guy Pierce would be well known, but he is not shown in the Trailers... Theron and Fassbender are known but not to the level that many recognise. In the trailers people recognised her in Snow White but not Prometheus, which either means she was not featured as much or the audience when i went was just not that interested in the Trailer for Prometheus and switched off.

You should not try to drag people to see a movie they aren't interested in any more than you should try to impose your political or religious beliefs on them if you want to keep them as friends. Most likely when the reviews start coming out, more people will start to get interested in Prometheus. Everyone in this forum is the kind of person who has seen Alien and would go see this movie not knowing anything else about it. I have a suspicion that we are just the first wave and that you'll have a pretty steady stream of newcomers to the franchise getting their first taste this summer. Word of mouth can accomplish a lot, give your friends time to come around if they want to. Be patient with them. They don't have to like what you like.
