Excuse my ignorance:

Excuse my ignorance folks, but why does someone with the vision such as Sir Ridley asks for screen/script writers and whatnot? I ask it for 2 main reasosn: - sheer curiosity, since I'm not in the movie business and have little knowledge of how it works. - I'm intrigued to why some cineasts seem to write, produce and direct their own ideas while others come up with the ideas but have other people writing them down [and it came to my knowledge that Sir Ridley draws his ideas rather then writing about them]. Thank you kindly for any replies.

You kind of answered you own question there. Ridley Scott is a visionary, as in he has a visual imagination. This is shown not only through his storyboards, or Ridleygrams as they are known, but also through the way in which he shoots a scene. Writing a script/screenplay is actually a complex practice. Not only do you have to ensure your characters are believable you also have to pay attention to the flow of the story, its elements and structure, while ensuring the audiences attention is maintained. Then you have to make the conversations natural between the characters, ensure the scenes are interesting and convey the story... The list goes on, and on, and on. This is not Ridleys area of talent, he knows this and therefore inputs his ideas to writers while concentrating on what he is good at, which is the visuals.

I would think getting the exact dialogue is what lindelof is mostly for, and is an art in itself. My impression is that he's just doing some finishing details on the areas Ridley Scott has carved out for him to clean up.

I am kinda of worried about RS's pace in this movie. I mean there are too many ideas to tackle and if he has fast pace like any other sci-fi movie these days, then i am afraid wht's out there for me.

ideally the pace of a script should increase gradually over the course of the narrative, much as in Alien. I wouldn't worry too much, Ridley is usually good in that respect.

Yes. That is what I am hoping for. Just being impatient because it's time to see something like this from ridley after some time.

The Director has a vision of what will resonate with the audience, but everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Imagine how much better the entire Star Wars franchise would have been if SOMEBODY (anybody) had talked Lucas out of creating Jar-Jar. Some would say the same about the Ewoks... Ridley didn't design the xeno. Giger did. The second Ridley saw the Necronomicon illustrations he knew that was his 'alien' (minus the overt phallic reference). And, that's the case even though Ridley is a talented graphic artist. The best films are always collaborations in which the director has the final say about picking the BEST out of all the ideas and offerings from the entire team. That keeps his/her "singular vision" his/her vision. Of course, the studios tamper too. And, whenever that happens too much (or sometimes too little), it all ends in tears.

sukkal meu amigo: true, those Hollywood White-collar pricks have no artistic vision whatsoever, only droolling over money. And yes, I agree with the collaboration thing [though there are a few good cases where the director/producer/screen writer is one and same. LOL. I feel my brain as been damaged by Jar Jar Binks... somethings are better off untold....
