I wonder is the alien "creature" let loose in Prometheus analogous to the facehugger running around the ship only a bigger, giant, super-sized spider-like version? The tentacle-thing flicking at Shaw through the glass window frame in the door could be the tail of an even bigger facehugger like creature, big like Shelob in the LOTR trilogy but maybe not as big yet still formidable and terrifying!

I fthere are three or four life cycles that may be explained upon in Prometheus then maybe the three life cycles as the collective whole in some way makes up the fourth!

.....i kinda visualize it with arms and tentacles and perhaps a head that is reminiscent of the xeno...that would be cool...I think?

Sure, maybe you are right and that tentacle-thing somehow looks like a facehugger.
After reading what Ridley Scott said about Aliens and the Alien Queen (Cameron's idea), and why he put the egg scene back at the end of Alien, Director's Cut, I am absolutely convinced that the plot in Prometheus will show many varieties in the methods of creating life, and not so much some specific "monster". What RS didn't like about Cameron's Aliens is the fact that Cameron simply turned the Alien figure into an insect-like species. In Alien, it is a species which uses other organisms in various ways to reproduce, but all of the forms are something totally different than we are used to (motherless), so turning Dallas and Brett into face hugger eggs in the Director's Cut is closing the reproduction circle without needing insect sex.
I believe that it is not so much what the monsters look like, but what they are doing which will be important in Prometheus.
And I think that RS doesn't want to warm up any of his well-done monsters, just for the sake of showing them. But he and his monster creators are limited to what really scares us, and this again might be reduced by what already has been seen in movies. At the end, the choice is not big, and anything will look like a snake, worm, spider, insect or other things that seem to bite nastily, cling to or drill into sensitive parts like our eyes or reproduction organs or like to enter our various body openings, and the next variation class goes into the monster "skin": Slimy, wet, hairy, skinny, bony, snake-, fish- or shark-like, white/green/blue, cold.

Reminds me of scifi epic Druuna, featured in Heavy Metal magazine.. check out: Adventures of sexy Druuna...
Google around for this, its all over the web, maybe there is a complete download somewhere.. really worth checking out for hardcore gigeresque scifi fans :)

Yes to both of you! Ridley Scott has not discounted Aliens take on the alien xenomorph life cycle just merely accepts the capability that its life cycle is able to shoot-off on tangents that take it away ever-so gradually from its original inception so now we have the life form sort of "bleeding" into differnt hybrid versions of itself on a gradual, gradual basis.

Yeah, but I have some kind of idea what might be a new and shocking thought for us if we think about strange kinds of reproduction of life forms (wrote it in the spoiler forum). Alien was about that, and I hope Scott and his writers prove to be much more creative than we are. Thats what we are waiting for.

That is true Oww aghain giving a nod or the DNA visual to something for us fans to be reminded of but taking it, steering it into another, more subtle direction for this film. Fair point to you as well on that. We have seen that many a time already but something like that would be compelling as well as introducing something new to the franchise! Hmmm a GIANT Spider-Facehugger-ish creature the size of SHELOB! Running around loose upon the ship like a giant crab! That would be pretty cool to see as well as something else too, you must admit. Just to flirt with the idea briefly. That would be a really good nod to Alien and Aliens without really going into it in any great level of detail. Just a good reason to satisfy the "monster loose aboard the ship" scenario. It would be very creepy for one giant one to lunge out of left screen onto someone but just have a pincer mouth or something akin or a precurser to its forebearers double-mouthed Xeno tounge!
COOL!!!!

[...] I simply adore monster movies, and the cheaper they are, the better they are. And cheepnis in the case of a monster movie has nothing to do with the budget of the film, although it helps, but true cheepnis is exemplified by visible nylon strings attached to the jaw of a giant spider . . . I'll tell you, a good one that I saw one time, I think the name of the film was "IT CONQUERED THE WORLD," and the . . . Did you ever see that one? The monster looks sort of like an inverted ice-cream cone with teeth around the bottom. [...]

[...] when the monster came out of the cave, just over on the left hand side of the screen you can see about this much two-by-four attached to the bottom of the Thing as the guy is pushing it out, and then obviously off-camera somebody's goin': "NO! GET IT BACK!" And they drag it back just a little bit as the guy is goin': "KCH! KCH!" Now that's cheepnis. Awright. [...]

I think in every sci-fi-monstermovie of the last years the "final battle" or "showdown" was between some kind of hero and a HUUUGE monster.
This is boring nowadays, especially in a highquality-intelectual sci-fi plot like prometheus ridley scott does not work with the philosphy "bigger is better" as that is HIS profession - frightening you with the "small, unseen" things. The more you see, the less it frightens you...

I think it will be like mix of xeno queen and elephant head. That too in separate stages.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

Since the going trend seems to be pulling out older Giger concepts...

Well i hear its a creature that is big, like really big and when we see it we will recognise it as being Part Shaws Baby and Part related to the Orginal Alien Xeno...
Also movie is open ended but person who told me speculated that the Xeno form could be from a Space Jockey impregnated by the Shaws Baby Cuddles...
Or that could lead to a rebooted Xeno that is simular but not quite the same..

...where from what I gather from most of the movies an videogames, it seems the aliens are able to adapt to any lifeform it comes across an impregnats...dogs for runner, humans as drones, pred-aliens....
