Why couldn't it be on the same day everywhere in the world?!
By the time we get to see it spoilers will be all over the place...

I am seeing it on the 31st at Midnight, there is a closed showing in France on the 23rd but thats not for the Puplic.
I guess the only way is just to avoid Prometheus forums untill after you have seen the movie....
As far as the USA getting the movie latter, well its not very often that happens, usually they get it first and so then other countries can get the movie spoilt for them...
Transformers and the Thing was released a lot more than 1 week after its US Showing.

Have you heard of phoenix asteroids?
They glow in every color of the rainbow...they travel endlessly through space...

Given that any copyrighted material in Russia is as safe as a group of school children playing soccer in eggs chamber I'm surprised they aren't "releasing" it earlier using the one they got for dubbing...
still not fair!

"school children playing soccer in eggs chamber" now THATS an image of safety... and a lot of deaths. horrific really.

Well, I have a passport. It's current. Not to mention the fact that I just banked on my profit sharing check. I could easily take a trip across the pond to see Prometheus in the UK. However, I probably won't. Flying all the way to Great Britain just to see a movie is a bit on the extreme side, even for a fan boy such as myself.
I'll be seeing it on opening night with the rest of you guys. :-)

I live in Montreal and we have the chance to see the movie at the same time than USA. When I look at the release schedule on the IMDB web site :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/releaseinfo
I can see that Italy will get the movie on September 14th!!!! This is soooooo long waiting!!!!! Imagine, with all the spoilers around during the summer..... hope that our Italians friends will find another way to see the movie!

Scott said "The surprise is in the story" indicating that the trailers can't spoil anything, and the marketing campaign proves that they are willing to push out lots of clips even before first release.
They have to do that, because after first release you can be sure that the net will be choked with "real" fan clips. And this means, that all kind of things are going to be known (spoiled) for any potentially unlucky viewer in one of the countries like Italy or Spain.
So I hope that either Scott has built his story so cleverly, that it doesn't mind if you know it in advance, or that it is impossible to spoil the film (interesting approach, hard to believe). Well, he makes art movies, so this may be the thing.
Oh, and I was wondering why the last few release dates are sooo late (there is one month gap between Vietnam and Poland). It might be summer vacations before the release date, LOL. My hope is that the english versions will be shown everywhere at the same time. Actually this might be the hope of anybody. PLEASE, Fox, spread english copies around the world as soon as possible.

All this means is that just like Battleship and The Avengers everyone in the States will have access to a crappy cam rip prior to release. Word of mouth will do the rest. Avengers broke all kinds of records because the pirate buzz was that this was an amazing movie and the buzz for Battleship was... less good.
Bottom line is that if you are confident that you made a good film you have nothing to fear from releasing it to the foreign markets first. If it's good enough the pirates themselves will go see it when it releases, too. It's just good marketing.
Of course the real reason is soccer. Freaky foreigners!
