MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:14 PMSo, looking over the trailers and the new featurette, and assuming that most of what we've seen probably occurs in the first half of the film, I'm thinking that Theron is actually the protagonist of Prometheus. From the trailers, we know that she evacuates the prometheus at the time of its explosion with the "not the derelict", which leaves her planetside...perhaps with the engineers...perhaps alone. She's also the person in full-on "You can't bring that onboard the ship, Dallas" mode.
I think that Charlize is this film's "Ripley", i.e.: last man standing.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:17 PMI think she will be more like Ash instead of Ripley...
Have you heard of phoenix asteroids?
They glow in every color of the rainbow...they travel endlessly through space...

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:23 PMI'm hoping she will be a unique character who will not be easily compared to the cast of Alien, but that's me.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:31 PMI'd like to think so, too, and I don't mean that she will BE JUST LIKE Ripley, but only that she is, ultimately, the film's protagonist...the one who represents humanity and will be center-stage by film's end.
And...also...that she is the true Prometheus of the film's title. I mean, ultimately, her arch is to reject Weyland in some way and, as a result, she ends up stuck on the planet being tortured or modified or inpregnated or something squicky forever.
Or she's the film's Herakles, rescuing the engineer that created humanity...oh, I dunno.
Just a guess.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:48 PMThis wouldn't be the first time the protagonist has been a relative unknown when the stars in the movie were killed off in a Ridley Scott movie; he's done it before.
It was called "Alien".

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:52 PMPersonally I agree with Xenomorph54 I think it would be interesting to see her the equivalent of Ash opposed to the cliche Android risking the crews lives. However it drives me nuts to see magazines (more so then members/users) compare any character to Ripley. She will always be one of my favourite protagonists. & I hope RS will build even more lovable characters and characters you love to hate.. Ripley was a great character and hopefully we will see Shaw or Vickers along with the rest of the cast (whether good or bad) become their own remarkable memorable characters.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 3:56 PMShaw will be dead fully 40 minutes before Vickers looks up at the strange, alien sky and, wiping the blood from her hands, says, "I love it when a plan comes together." Roll credits.
lol.
but I don't mean that Vickers is ANOTHER RIPLEY. I just mean that I think Vickers is the hero of the film and that her arch is the film's best kept secret.

MemberDeaconMay-21-2012 4:58 PMWhat if......
The only survivour is...... the Engineer.... ;)
Who knows....
As Ridley is planning already on Prometheus 2 think he plans to get it done fast and not wait years between movies, so we would see like the gaps between Star Wars EP 4-5-6 or maybe less. Like the Harry Potters maybe..
So maybe he would leave the movie open, so as that a Prometheus 2 could follow Shaw, or Vickers or both...
The only person who will 100% survive this movie for sure and be in a Prometheus 2, well more likely is....
DAVID 8.....
Because he could be blown to bits, then burnt then put into a shreader... But back home their are more David 8 models around...
Oh i think that something related to a creation from the Creature that Spawns from Shaw will make it to a new movie...
unless they go back in time, or even another place in the Galaxy and explore the Engineers more..

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 4:59 PMMy take :
Shaw is the new Ripley.
She's all but stated that in interviews and she is the star.
Originally the lead was offered to Theron but, due to a prior engagement she declined.
Repace is the the star and for good reason. We watched the orginal "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" long before the US version (which was also quite good) was released and she is a star.
Maybe in this flick she will be joined by another (Theron/Vickers) but either way, my money is on her.
My 2 cents.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 10:27 PMVickers is the one person whose job it is to not act like a typical horror movie person. She will do all the right things and make all the correct decisions and things will go to hell anyway. Good dramatic tension device.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 6:00 PMI have thought from the beginning that she will not be the standard "lead" of the film. I feel the studio brought her in because she is a "name" that will help counter the huge cost of this film. Now, dont get it twisted, I love Charlize so much but I don't think her character will be the lead of the film. However, I do think she will bring a dynamic the movie needs.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 12:19 AMI'd like to believe that there is room in Prometheus for two strong female characters.

funkopotamus
MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:43 AMAnd I'd like to think that there is a room ON Prometheus where those two female characters occasionally make out.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 7:44 PMI think Vickers comes back to help rescue Shaw out of the lab after her C-Section. Ultimately, I think Shaw will just die from fatigue and loss of blood. I remember seeing her collapse walking into another room with a group of doctors in the first trailer all bloody. Perhaps she sacrifices herself to distract them while Vickers is trying to foil their plans. Just a guess. Could explain that one scene of Vickers all sweaty looking like she is either crawling or doing a push up lol but she is dressed the same as Shaw in that scene in the bra and undies thing
