The OTHER prometheus

This thought occurred to me in another thread. And by other, I mean Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, subtitled "A Modern Prometheus". It was the first thing I thought of when I heard the title of this film, months ago, and it really excited me...you know why? Because Frankenstein actually got into trouble by being the smartest, most arrogant, elitist prick on the planet. He was the anti-Holloway. He didn't get all sad and drunk and horny and have bad things just happen to him. He basically grabbed the Victorian God concept by the ears and face-raped it with science until it spat up utter catastrophe. And when the Weyland TED thing showed up, and when I thought of our planet sending it's smartest people into space equipped with its best technology, it's greatest ambitions and its worst ethics...I got excited. And then I heard they would actually reanimate the skull of an engineer. I thought, surely Scott is onto this. Surely he is going for it, trying to do to modern corporate arrogance what Shelly did to the Victorian landed Aristocracy, what Alien, in it's own way, did when it gave us a haunted refinery in deep space. Nothing came of it. There was nothing even remotely that interesting in the actual film. Still, the movie in my head kicked ass for a while. Sigh.
