Varying knowledge of info released and the original

Man, it sucks but I'm sort of starting to go nuts reading stuff on this forum. The varying degrees of knowledge and what people have and have not seen as well as everyone's varying knowledge of the original has me simultaniously finding out new info that I want to know the source of and going crazy wanting to correct everyone that states something that goes against released knowledge I already know. It's very frustrating.
Most of us are on both sides of the fence but I also know there are people who pretty much have steeped themselves completely in everything Prometheus from the day the first trailer hit and even before. I've stayed on the border of casual and complete freak. There's a ton I know and a ton I don't.
I also find the constant correcting frustrating. It many times stops me from actually posting. But I also understand the other side of the fence where I want to correct every mistake posted or if something has been talked about before. I refrain from that more times than I don't post due to fear of ignorance.
Anyway, I guess the only final resolution would to be to stay away from the boards completely. I'm really going to try and kick back, relax and let it all go.
Anyone else feel this way? Knowing I'm not alone would help me accept the way things have to be on this forum. I think if a lot of us just realize all the quirks of the forum and accept them it will be a better place.
The affect this film has on us is crazy.

the posting quality defines the quality of a forum..since the search function was implemented it got even better.
and staff is cool, too.
*thumpsup
of course double threads are somewhat superficial its a real job to clean up here I guess..but maaan, its 6300 fans and growing..and we only have some trailers in the end! I really think forum will drastically change after the first screenings..so this is just the recent state..
cheers

Wow. Yes, I do. I was really not paying attention. Here I am worried about corrections about the film and I need and recieve a quick spelling/word use correction.

@otto Corrections made. Thanks for your informative post on the subject.
@Xenotron Sorry but I really don't think knowledge of the film Prometheus translates to power but to each his own.

I think i may aswell start to keep away...
to many spoilers are comming out and i dont mean from so called people who have seen the movie..... or not?
But from the TV Spots mainly, now the general public wont notice nothing from the TV Spots but people like us will slow them down, record them take stills or freeze frames, release gifs etc....
I remember the early trailers and i noticed something, i said to my brother did you see that, so rewinded the trailer and noticed what i thought was a Face Hugger or simular...
Then when i got the Trailer on the PC i could then see it was a Squid and it seemed attached to Shaw, this is the Med Pod Scene we all know.
But a casual person who just watches that trailer would not pick up that sene yet alone then pause it looking for clues...
I think potentially over the next 7 days could see more and more information released...
So i guess yes if you dont want the movie spoilt any more, its best to avoid boards like this untill you come back from seeing the movie yourself.

@BigDave I TOTALLY agree! The other day I saw one of the trailers or spots on TV and I thought to myself that it doesn't seem as big or as epic as it did before. Over analyzing them really has taken some of the magic out.
The movie being ruined for me really wasn't what the thread was about but I'm glad you brought it up.

@ Bigdave
The onslaught of spoilers and marketing material is due to the budget. This movie is hit or miss in the box-office, so Fox is throwing whatever cool/scary/intriguing pic to draw in a bigger audience. This can backfire, but I understand their reasons. The accesibility of it (showing up as a commercial during ever television break) has me ducking behind the couch whenever I hear it though.
My recomendation is to just black it all out for the next two weeks. It's right around the corner afterall. I feel as though the boards do a pretty good job at bottlenecking spoilers, but i've lurked longer than i've partook, so i'm not a good judge.

I understand your frustration. When I post an opinion, I expect to be chased out of the room at any minute. I do my best to be honest with a small dash of humor, when posting. I do step back from time to time, and sit in awe of the magnitude of thought and effort that is being exhibited here. Some people pour their full backgrounds, some to the extent bragging. This is just for fun, but like a lot of things humans endeavor to do, we sometimes overdo it a bit. Please stay on the boards and enjoy the show.

@patch I too have sat in awe and sometimes amazement forum. What's strange is the different ranges of awe and amazement. Sometimes it's "wow how did they think of that" and sometimes it's "wow how did they have time to think of that" as well as many variations in between.
Like I and many others have said, the affect this film has on us is crazy.

I'm just going to stay away from "speculative" and spoiler threads and read stuff like the "Portman or Noomi" thread.

Forums can be quite negative when they don't need to be. One thing is certain: everyone here is very passionate! I'm really excited too, but I'm self conscious about it here, of all places!
So far nothing I've seen even remotely suggests disappointment, I just saw the clip of Shaw, the Big Guy and whatever the hell that was attacking them yesterday and my blood ran cold. The soundtrack with that signature wail certainly helps! I haven't felt dread like that from a trailer I think EVER.
I love Alien, I love this movie's connections to it, and the expansion of its ideas. I agree the marketing is aggressive, especially when most people can break it down frame by frame, and I wonder if thats ever been done so obsessively as it is now. The story is still a mystery, though, we just cant know until we see it for ourselves. As for the sometimes harsh climate here, this is what happens when smart people are put in touch with their inner child. Dont worry about being "correct",my friend. Look where the truth is getting those poor astronauts! Just don't be a jerk and you're cool.

Deckard_B26354...."The movie being ruined for me really wasn't what the thread was about but I'm glad you brought it up."...is why I'm NOT going to lock the thread because I know that the 'Should I or Shouldn't l leave the forum' thing wasn't part of your original post.....
That said, I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOU'RE COMING FROM....I've always played it this way from day one back in January when I joined...and I hope it helps......I choose topics and ideas to post on based on:
- my level of interest
- the point I intend to make and the relative level of passion behind it
- my confidence level in that opinion
- and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, my willingness to argue my point beyond my first post
Now, that WAS a mouthful, so, let me try and clarify....I avoid any situation where there isn't sufficient motivation, from any one of those reasons I mentioned, to continue with a conversation that might ensue once I've thrown in my two cents.....That way, I avoid the need to correct everyone, avoid ignorance of new members (and I say ignorance in a matter of fact way as opposed to negatively..I mean that they simply haven't been INTO the material long enough to know certain ideas have been either debunked, argued to the point of nausea or simply discarded...PLEASE UNDERSTAND, I AM NOT BASHING NEWCOMERS).....I am able to avoid potentially volatile siutuations where people may misunderstand the point I would be making and I avoid situations where I'll be dragged into a conversation where my interest level would not match the necessary attention I would need to defend the point.....Does all that make sense?
Really, it's taken a lot of the pressure of participating here away..

Just post what you feel like adds to the discussions. If something similar has been posted before then so be it. Even if the point you raise seems ridiculous to others then it's down to them to respond respectfully or not respond at all.
No one here has seen the movie and a lot of what is said is speculation. With that in mind everyone is pretty much in the same boat so it shouldn't deter you from posting what you want. As long as it's not trolling obviously ;-)

Well while these Spoilers do spoil it for the Alien Fans, as we may had wanted answers and we may not get them, but in our search we are finding more and more about the movie and it could spoil it for us...
But what spoils it for us, will not for those casual Sci Fi fans or those of the general public... Maybe if they used some more well known actors that may had done the trick... but if that dont then yes thats more cash spent than needed.
End of the day i think Ridley and Spaihts ideas was more to gear this movie for the Alien fans.... Lindelof has come aboard and maybe pitched other ideas that would maybe get interest from other potential audiences..
Heavy links to Alien and maybe some who was not keen on Alien may think "oh not another one of those movies" i mean they may had seen more recently AVP 1+2 and AR....
But then to tone down and play down links to Alien Universe which those people who are not Alien fans would not really notice stuff like Derelict, the Pilot chair and Weyland... to tone down and cater for these none Alien fans is a risky one, at the risk of upsetting those fans....
This has to figure because their was a lot of debate about a PG13, so that means at some point Fox was looking at more than the Sci Fi Horror R rated limited audience...
End of the day if this movie is a let down to Alien fans, and the casual Sci Fi and General Puplic dont flock to see it, then what scope does a Prometheus 2 have?
The only scope would be if Fox thinks that the Alien and hard core Sci Fi fans would be deemed a big enough audience to pull of a Prometheus 2 if Fox thinks by doing more to please those fans with answers from Alien would work....
But thats assuming the movie fails to live up to its hype for the general puplic and leaves a sore wound for the Fanboys.

Its more than 6 months that im (we) fighting against false rumors ...speculations sold for real things ...
if we did keep some sort of integrity and good sense in this forum its for the everyday work of many people that have tried to remove speculations or fake leaks sold for truth OR support good finds with proofs and reasoning .
Without that work now that will be no better than the IMDB forums or many others , totally devasted by trolls and sick people .
Of course in this last days is almost impossible ...6000+ users ..the release date so close ...but an incredible amount of work was done and it still pay .

With big-budget releases as John Carter and Battleship with the former tanked and the latter with a real bad start; I do not want the same to happen to Prometheus.
When I was a kid and saw Alien and Aliens; I was a repeat viewer on three occasions. I hope the same will happen here with many viewers.
