...that makes sense. As I recall, Giger actually used skulls (not real ones, I hope) in the design...I thought that was really brilliant. A few modifications aside, the monster that scared so many people half to death was, well, human. Gotta love artists.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:22 PMThe one HERE that's 3~5 posts down. It's on top of one of the "mounds" in the Temple Complex.
It looks like a symbol of DEATH to me. I'm not sure which building it's on top of, but If I were showing up in that valley, I'd probably stay out of that particular structure.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:26 PMOh THAT one? I've seen that before. When you said "skull on top of temple" I thought you meant that round temple shown in one of the trailers before the scenes of them going in the Ampule Room.
Well, months back some people here pointed out some rather anatomical-shaped geography on parts of the landscape, in some cuts showing the Juggernaut ship toppling over. But as for the skull you're mentioning, I don't know, but it sure fits well for the impending dust-storm in that one scene.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:31 PMAs much as I hate Alien
Revelations...this image looks worryingly like the new born alien.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:38 PMThis is what I'm loving about this film...the archeology and the vastness of time. This is what fired me up when first seeing Forbidden Planet as a seven year old kid, marvelling at the technology of the dead (Krell?) race.

I see the resemblance now that you mention it. But I don't think you'll have to worry about the Newborn Alien making a cameo or anything. If anything, the horizontal shape of the skull seems more reminiscent of this, or this, just with a difference facial architecture......of course the overall size of it reminds me of Majin Buu from DBZ.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:46 PMImpressive looking shot. Hoping it has some meaning beyond mere mood/morbidity. There were skulls behind David in his Happy Birthday video, too...some connection to him, maybe? Some foreshadowing? You guys would know more than me, I'm sure.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 9:52 PMI personally am reminded of the xenomorph and what it looks like without the head shield over it. They are skull-like and then elongated in the back.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2012 11:30 PMIt is meat to represent mankinds creators - it validates one previous spoiler which inidcated that humans and engineers were created by humanoid aliens with banana shaped skulls it

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 12:24 AMIt's the sign for the local pub. Where the Engineers go to drink their mead and toast your death. "SKULL!"

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 5:41 AMFossilzed humans maybe... ancient or otherwise? Perhaps echos of a past expedition before this one in Prometheus before that of the Nostromo's in Alien!
Or Ridley Scott just putting in another non-linier metaphor as subtext to reinforce the films themes.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 5:49 AM@Shambhala,
I would put it differently:
"Please do come up in here, seriously. Look at my smile"
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberDeaconMay-22-2012 5:59 AMIts a nod to Gigers work, they borrowed some influence of his Cave Concept for Dune that was never used.
I guess maybe this and the Xeno Mural could be clues to what someone could then assume is the Engineers creators and Gods, and thus maybe what some of the so called Screener viewers based their strories on....
That Engineers was created by and worshiped by Banana Headed Gods...

I just saw some original Alien photos and one of the designs has the alien having eyes compared to eyeless that was shown in the movie

MemberOvomorphJun-23-2012 12:07 AMThe original alien that giger designed had an opaque dome that covered the alien's invisible top-skull, which giger also designed, It worked aesthetically for the film and also served as a way for the actor in the alien suit to see while on the set. Ridley Scott did not choose to light the dome so as to reveal the illumined eyes set in well-designed skull. The audience did not see the top-skull until James Cameron directed Aliens and chose to leave the opaque dome off entirely and instead used Giger's ridged skull design as the outer surface of the head. He filled in the eye sockets of course. I think that the opaque dome is an essential part of the alien, as it gives the monster a sleek quality in contrast to the rest of the body's exo-skeleton detail. Cameron is the only director that did not include the willing/eager giger in the film-making process.

MemberOvomorphJun-23-2012 6:49 AMOr rather than have a 'warning' symbol they make it very clear to everyone, except the dumbass crew of Prometheus, that this is not the tourist office and 'meet and greet' conference hall for interstellar travellers.
A top view of the dome shows this skull extending back in a curved cylinder shape... kind of like this one.

A warning symbol on a hardened bunker... and still Holloway rushed in.

MemberOvomorphJun-26-2012 2:05 AMMaybe it was originally a sculpture of an Engineer's face (like the one they find inside) but the sand storms have eroded it until it looked like a skull.
