Hole in Engineer's chest

I'm thinking that wound is almost certainly an [i]entirely natural[/i] part of his anatomy. It kinda defies common sense that he'd capable of wrestling a rather large, presumably powerful monster, otherwise.

Here's my guess. The hole is just a burn mark from when the mercenary with the rifle was able to get shot off before this Engineer killed him and Ford.

Its a big hole through his armor/suit maybe from an axe or acid or the giant squid has a jaw thingy like a xeno and punches him a little.

I think it's part of his anatomy. If you look at the old space jockey suits they had that elaphantile trunk connect to the chest cavity. The engineer when sitting in the canon/telescope still has a bio mask with an elephantine attachment but much smaller and not connecting to the chest. Perhaps evolution of the engineer species decided not to use it like the space jockey humanoids did. Teh engineer also has small holes in the armor in the back aswell. I am not looking forward to making a dichotomous key involving all the species from the this movie. But then again, if you look at the old pics of the engineer suits hanging on set in one of the magazines you will see no holes in the chest.

BioShock, I'm leaning against something that is part of his anatomy. The coloring is just too different and unnatural. Any naturally occurring hole would still fit in a general color scheme for the engineer. This just looks like a black burn mark. Very unnatural looking. Not an axe wound. The wrong shape. It could be from his tentacled attacker. However, due to the coloring, I'm placing my money on the mercenary with the rifle. We know that Ford and the mercenary confront an Engineer and the mercenary was able to get a few shots off before he died.
