Just found this, thought it might be an interesting read for some of you... "Scott’s movies, which include sci-fi classics Alien and Blade Runner, always push the envelope in terms of technology, and Prometheus is no different. He shot the film completely in 3D using Red Epic cameras (Fig. 2) and 3ality Technica’s Atom 3D rigs. It includes more than 1400 3D visual effects (VFX)." Full article on Electronic Design (Fig. 2)

That' what I just posted in the ticket thread, the cameras are very unique and one of the IMAX theaters in the Old Port of Montreal Has projectors that will ONLY play documentarys or special films made exclusively to play back on James Cameron's Avatar system...Ridley has apparently added 12 frames per second to that original idea using this newer camera system that was based on Cameron's Avatar system. Ya need a special IMAX projector designed to play his films backs now and forever more...most cinemas in NA were already prepared, but the owner I spoke to at the Old port wasn't and she is pissed cause apparently the upgrade is quite lofty in price.

Holy cow I just read the article completely and it's not twelve it's way way more than that...no wonder it looks so vibrant in the HD trailers. 120 frames/s I believe that's a quarter times or even maybe DOUBLE what Cameron Shot Avatar in !!!

Cool. If these cars are tableshot in these times. I guess Ridley made a high quality CGI movie in limited budget.

I think the budget was way more than people realize or will ever know...think it is in the end around the 210 to 225 Million Range and perhaps more. Despite all the conservative rumors.

Look in the back of that shot with Theron, the whole set is chroma-key (green screen) So is the entire hangar CGI!? In fact i'll go as far as saying that anything from the horizon up is CGI outdoors

Yes. It does look like a lot of set in the CGI set. I mean especially the scenes like - inside the temple, hanger and some of the landing or landscaping theme which is obvious.

Yeah, I guess so. It would probably be cheaper that way, as the hangar will sustain substantial damage throughout the film and so you can have a much higher 'repairable' level of detail. I guess the making-of book will reveal it all.

This is a great article. I love how they talk about the pragmatism of using LEDs instead of full mocap. It's so great when projects are efficient and smart about how they do what they do. The dig to David's non-Asmovian programming was also appreciated.
