engineers??

to the wall....
MemberOvomorphMay 22, 2012792 Views8 Repliesok so apologies if already discussed, it sparked my interest in one of the recent tv spots where noomi says "we call them the engineers", this to me suggests prior knowledge of them other than finding the same pictograms on cave walls around the world. i wonder if shes been breifed by the weyland company on info they have obtained by other means.... thoughts???

I think it is irrelevant who named them 'engineers'. The name 'engineers' is just a label so that the characters have something to call the Alien race. What is important... is that we know now that the Humans in the film know that they have been genetically engineered.

Something doesn't add-up. Mostly everyone has failed to notice something very important in the contex of the material as far as the theme of the movie goes. The fact that aside from Shaw's pictographic discovery of a possible connection to an alien race of Engineers who may or may not have had a hand in our creation or development a genetic clue or marker would be required to be left behind by said creators in order to show that we were ever tampered with. Perhaps this is something that is yet to be seen once Prometheus opens.

the way she has stated "us" when asked what they engineered, she seems pretty sure going off the response she gives...dont think u can come to that conclusion from Cave paintings right?? If that is the case! then thats just DAFT!

She is a scientist trying to prove a hypothesis, this is how scientists talk about their research. She made up an explanation from the limited amount of data she had and has created names and jargon that help the others understand her idea.

Drakeequation - I hear what ur saying BUT being a scientist right? and going off cave paintings across the world to come up with a theory of engineers who engineered us? is quite far fetched? do you not agree?
Come on off a cave painting?!! unless they found other hints at this happening i just think its weak to say they engineered us going off Cave paintings and tablets..

Stay Frosty- Like a scientist, she is going out to the moon depicted in the paintings to see if her hypothesis is correct. This is how science works, you get some observations, formulate a hypothesis, and then go see if you can find the evidence to support it. She believes the cave paintings across different cultures, that shared no history, are evidence enough that some alien beings that she calls Engineers gave rise to humanity. Shaw has no hard physical proof that we were engineered but she has her theory and faith in herself. This is why she contacts Weyland to fund her expedition to the moon. This is also why Vickers thinks Shaw is full of crap and the entire thing is a huge waste of money.

Drakeequation - I agree with you, but all im sayin is she seems dead cert of what shes sayin...and calling them engineers and they engineered us in that scence addressing the crew about their mission and why they are going there..just seems a bit far fetched to put together a multi billion doller expition etc if thats what it costs to travel to somehwere that may not exist on a hunch, thats a risk and worth a shot maybe...but to actually state as in almost fact that it was us they engineered or that they are engineers on theback of a few cave paintings doesnt make sense? guess its all explained in the film hey...
Even the wall paintings do not show these LANKY fellas created or engineered humanity all they show is sum dudelady pointing to a set of stars...thats all just cos its the same across diff continnents and cultures could just mean there was ONE global society who liked star gazing??
oh well im just bored at work and thinking too much..Im just going to Enjoy the film.. June 2nd! woop

I do not understand why it should seem so far fetched for Shaw to use the word Engineer when she refers to the ones who created the human race. The example of cave paintings is one of many examples that the human race had help in establishing some form of civilization. It must of received help from outside of the spheare we live on. The cave paintings, and the other designs and sculptures found around the world have many similar traits. We are talking about civilizations decades and centuries apart that never had any type of connection. As far as we know. So for Shaw to use the word Engineer to describe those who created us, or helped human race evolve should not be a great mystery. If you want to feel safer you can use the term god, or our makers.
