I agree the xeno mural has been discussed? but where is it stated that it's not a mural at all, or even like me think it's a goo on the urn? why start new topic? i come daily, and look at the new ones, not the old ones. unless i said exactly the same as someone elses topic, i don't see why i can't mention that in a newer featurette to me the goo started to look as the image most assumed is a mural. Lock as you please, master lockers!

I seen a lot of topic that could be going another direction and not really repost type...and they get locked. I have to say noobie admins...Sorry, but its true on some.

I agree. It's incredibly annoying; and bordering on asshat behavior. Besides that, if someone posts on an old thread; there's an extremely good chance that nobody will ever see the "new" post in there, hence no discussion will take place. All the thread locking is extremely counter-productive.

TOO BAD, SORRY, DO A SEARCH FIRST THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!! P.S. I PERSONALLY HAVE NOT LOCKED EVEN 1 THREAD IN MONTHS!!! BUT THIS COMMUNITY HAS BEEN TOLD BY "BUGHUNTER" TO DO A SEARCH FIRST AND WE ARE INSTRUCTED TO LOCK ANY REPEAT THREADS...NEW OR NOT, THE POINT IS TO CUT DOWN ON THREAD UN NECESSARY CREATION, AND HAD YOU DONE A SEARCH FIRST YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND 7 THREADS ON THE EXACT SAME TOPIC TO POST IN!! AS FOR THREAD LOCKING BEING COUNTER PRODUCTIVE THAT IS SO WRONG AND SO OFF BASE WHEN IT IS IN FACT THE OPPOSITE THAT THIS IS ALL I CAN SAY ON THAT COMMENT RIGHT NOW WITHOUT GETTING ANGRY!!!

It's a product of the nuances of this forum, if you posted in an older thread on conventional forums, it would bring that thread to the top of the forum, that doesn't seem to happen here unfortunately... so if you were to discuss it in an older thread, no one will see it anyway as it remains stuck when the topic was first post. It's a bit of a big hole in how the forum works that is more so a product of this forum apparently being built from the ground up This can be disconcerting for new members for example, as there doesn't seem to be any function to merge posts either, and it's not a defacto thing to search for topic that trend so heavily, hence it's highlighted to do so. Just got to get used to it until anything is done, on the whole everyone seems to get by alright. Back on topic, it's something i've noticed as well, it looks like the black slime, whether it's lying in it etc as the black surrounding it is not uniform in shape. It's origins and relevance however are still unknown. Might have been a red-herring?

TOO BAD...DO A SEARCH FIRST...PERIOD! All the Mods Have said this nicely twenty times in the last 3 days. also, get familiar with the rules when you are new member, that should be the first ting you do!!! THIS IS ONE OF THEM... "DO A SEARCH BEFORE CREATING A NEW TOPIC" !!!

@Spartacus, the point is 99.9% of other forums, bring recent threads to the top of a forum. With this site instead of this happening and continuing a single thread that is kept in clear site of people to post into, they fall by the wayside, and the threads and string of conversation become redundant. No-ones going to trawl all the way back into an old thread with what they feel is a valid point if it's just going to remain ten pages back in limbo for no one else to read. That's not how it works. I'm not biting the hand that feeds, i'm just telling you how it is. I run a successful forum, and it's the standard. Anyone that has migrated form any forum before this place it will probably feel a somewhat disruptive user experience, I know it did to me originally. I just got used to it, and get on with it OK now Fair play to Bughunter building the forum from scratch, but getting this issue sorted would really nail the end product.

Also, I think you need to talk to your members - being an ambassador of the forum as a mod - with a little more tact. I was actually agreeing that it's just a nuance of the forum to have to get used to. No need to shout.

@MVMNT stop, just stop, we have been aware of that for months. it changes NOTHING! do a search first! and you are WRONG. allow me to explain. When you start your post others may be doing the exact same thing in another thread, so to make sure your post pops up at the TOP the moment you have finished making it do NOT hit the POST button...instead copy your newly made post exit the thread with the BACK arrow button on your browser and then re post it and hit reply right away and it will appear at the top of the list of threads. it's not rocket science!!!

That really isn't a way to speak to people who post on this site. A valid point has been raised by MVMNT, the least you can do is not basically talk down to someone for raising a valid point that I am sure many other people agree with

I have asked about this in at least 2 different topics (go search for them). All other features that have been asked for have been introduced (more or less) quickly, except for the topic bumping, so it seems that the bumping feature is not possible on this forum (I am not a forum expert, so I don't know what it takes to implement it, if required). It would certainly be the most useful upgrade, because the search function, as great as it is, is only a partial solution. There was a beautiful thread about how we got in touch with the alien universe a couple of months ago, and it simply faded away. A new one has been posted yesterday, and it was a pity that it is going to fade as well, and nobody would see them both, because nobody else knows they are there, and even those who will bother to answer, won't have any feedback, because the community bumps are not as useful, being prone to spam (what's the need for it to show 10 consecutive answers to the same topic, especially if posted by the same user in sequence?).
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

@Spartacus I think you're missing the fact that i'm EXPLAINING this on here so people are aware of it, and understand it a little better. Your explanation/workround makes no sense, nor solves anything, however... an example: The Giger derelict post: Started May-23-2012 7:46 PM I look in side it and the last post was Posted May-24-2012 8:08 AM Yet it still remains further down the board. This is my point... The threads are kept in a rigid order defined by START DATE. Not LAST POST DATE. Are you referring to 'Latest Prometheus Forum Posts' rather than each of the Discussion boards? If so you're looking at the wrong part and this is not a solution unfortunately. Seriously i'm just trying to explain to others, but your making an argument of this now about who's wrong or right? I suddenly had this spring to mind hahaha

The thing is we get tons of repeat posts, and people get upset about them crowding up the place. I know it seems very annoying that we lock repeat posts but it is for a good reason and it's not to be asshatty. I am told a "bump thread" feature is being worked on and hopefully it will be implemented soon. For now, please try as much as possible to do a thorough search before posting. :)

I understand. but even though mural and xeno was discussed, i didn't see it the same way as me. actually as all is somehow about Prometheus you could claim everything should be in same post. there are nuances, Here i got the impression you just lock everything with a similar words that not nessasarily is the same topic. and as i thought it wasn't mentioned before that the black goo on the urn (even after search) could be what most think is xenomural, i did make a new post. no need to put it in 7 older posts that just talked about the meaning of the mural , and to know there is no response on it. i didn't want to be an ass, i just felt i got locked without a real good reason.

I was not here to see your post, as such I cannot comment. However, if you truly feel it was locked prematurely please contact a staff member via mail about it. Contrary to popular belief we do look at old posts and cross reference them to see if something wasn't covered in a past post before locking.

I understand peoples comments regarding threads being locked and the current inability to bump old threads with new posts. Let me clarify the situation for all... This forum, prometheus-movie.com, unlike most forums on the net has been built from scratch, from the ground up by its one and only admin and creator BugHunter. BH has done this so that the forum is unique amongst its competitors, to have total control over its appearance and function and to save money not having to pay for a licence. Now, since this sites inception BH has updated the site often with new features, some predetermined some requested. BH is admin on another site, AVPspectrum, which does feature elements such as new threads bumping old threads, but that site is based off the same template used for other forum sites, such as AVPgalaxy.net. We, the staff, the moderators are fellow members like yourselves. We do not get paid and there are no extra perks to our position other then our ability to moderate the forums. We do this in our spare time because we have been entrusted by BH to watch over the forum he has created. This forum does not impose as many stipulations on its members like other sites and the staff are much more relaxed and considerate than other forums (I could name one, but I wont). On behalf of BH and the other staff members I personally ask for your patience. BH runs this site virtually singlehandedly in terms of the coding and the forums features. He has heard your requests, and will, in due time deliver. Good things come to those who wait!

Hey Snorky, well said...and after being extremely polite over 20 times in 3 different threads, my patience has worn thin and the comments directed at me especially the rude and vulgar picture about CAPS was so off base I have to say one other thing. I am 50...June 15th...& Some Idiot 15 years ago made up some idea that CAPITOL LETTERS ARE HARDER TO READ WHICH AS YOU CAN clearly see IS COMPLETE AND UTTER NONSENSE...IT IS AN EMPHASIS...and nothing more. I say, people who complain about CAPITOL LETTERS have nothing more constructive and less confrontational to say, they have an agenda and are looking for a verbal fight, and I will never buy into any of that complete nonsense..I have a mind of my own and am not a Follower!!! I was deliberate in my politeness OVER 20 Times between Midnight Last night after the Hockey Game through 8 a.m. this morning!!!

And regarding the actual issue of the thread... It seems to have become the fashion that the closer we get to launch the more "Junk" threads we seem to be getting. These threads usually consist of... - Repeat threads, especially when a new TV spot is released. We do not need half a dozen threads informing us that a new TV spot is out, one is enough. - Status threads, if you have decided to leave the forums until having seen the film that is fine but starting a thread to inform us is a waste of space, memory and comes across as arrogant. Say goodbye in the status bar, PM members if you wish but DO NOT open a thread about it. - Idiot threads, you know the ones - little to no text, or a link or a picture only in the first post. Also the ones that are beyond belief with titles akin to "Did Ripley Die in Alien 3" or "Why was Hicks not in Alien R". Please, PLEASE for the sake of all our sanity's please do a search before even thinking of starting a thread. Also on another note, and this goes out to members and staff, please read the forum rules. Personal attacks and insults are not acceptable, EVER!

It appears there are some noob moderators along with some experienced moderators on this site which is fine, I mean they've got to start somewhere! I think we'll all agree that this is an excellent forum site and as pointed out by Snorkelbottom, it's been built up virtually single handed by BugHunter. It's going to have it's faults but for what they are the positives far out-weigh them. It's sometimes annoying when a thread is prematurely locked, especially when you want to add to the discussion. There's no point in adding anything to threads more than a couple of pages down the line because no-one reads them. I'm sure this will be addressed soon. Thanks BugHunter and the rest of you guys for putting all of the time and effort in, believe it or not, we DO appreciate it. Can't wait for a week on Friday, got my ticket booked for me to see the movie... unless I have some kind of fatal panic attack by then. I'm even starting to dream about it now. My wife thinks I'm some kind of freak enjoying dreaming about crazy alien creatures!! Happy days!!
