What does David 7 Recall Portend?

Regarding David 7 recalls: "“It appears that a handful of Weyland Cybernetics Repair Stations, mostly on Earth and Luna, have received some reports, less than a few dozen reports, that certain David 7 units…have malfunctioned while in service,” explains Kathryn Stuart-Rose, a Weyland Cybernetics spokesperson." To me, it seems possible, if not likely, that there may be other, if not the same, problems with David 8, as the newer versions may contain legacy algorithms and/or hardware from previous models. It is interesting that they would post info on David 7 problems, and I'm thinking something may come up in Prometheus relating to it. I searched the boards, and didn't find anything on this, though I may have missed it-apologies if re-tread.

This is interesting as a function of their viral strategy. It causes us to speculate about David8. But, this is David7, so they can say whatever and if there are not implications in the film, there's "no harm done." Clever (on the part of FOX marketing).

It got me thinking, because in Alien, ASH was problematic to say the least, and in the clip with Vickers and David, David appears to be trying to keep information from her; he said something like "...its confidential...". Without knowing context, it seems ominous.

@Ngranek; Well Ash wasn't a Weyland made robot though, he was Hyperdine Systems. Maybe the emotions that developed in the 7 series became a negative?? Fassbender described david8 as being "creepy and vain". No one wants to own a "creepy/Vain" expensive robot. "He's less developed than Ian Holm [laughs]. That's the way I'm going to describe him from now on. Ridley said, "He's like the butler," but there's a vanity to him. And he always has the answers so there's a swagger to him, too. In fact, I think he might be kind of creepy. I do creepy well:. - M.Fassbender Link-->Michael Fassbender reveals the creepy secrets of his Prometheus character

Hi Svanya and thanks for the link:), I thought about the Ash's Hyperdine Systems origins, and I wonder if that company wasn't a subsidiary of Weyland Industries. Maybe the whole thing points to the "creepy" factor of androids in general. I remember a long time ago some show(s) where the android unit's processors contained biological material (brain cells?) from their creators, thus inheriting some of their strengths and weaknesses. The "creepy and vain" thing parallels Weyland himself, though David seems somewhat subdued from what we can see (no megalomania-cal drive-yet). The viral video of him is awesome, especially with the tears as he talks about the things that make him sad.

This is SO true:
He's there to serve them, but he's sort of disliked because they think he might be superior to him. Or just different. Because humans have that thing where they're like, "Something's different? Persecute!"
I realize that David's character (in both senses) needs to be flawed and messy for all of the plot to play out, but I still relate to him as something of an underdog specifically due to this facet of human behavior. That vanity and swagger develop naturally in humans as well. It's a psychological self-defense mechanism. And, I can't wait to see him doing "creepy" well. I have every faith...

@Sukkal; You said; "It's a psychological self-defense mechanism." See where the creepy comes into play?? That is a human trait, how can a machine even begin to get neurotic like that?? O_O

Malfunction in David 8: that's one of the surprises not spoiled yet by the endless tv spots and trailers. My prime motivation to see the movie.

Then again, maybe Weyland's QC/QA ramped up, and David will not be a problem...LOL!
