Is Too Much Known About Prometheus?

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum and wanted to ask a question.. I'm sure this subject has been debated to death on here, as there are many threads & posts. But is the general feeling that maybe ""too much" is known about the film before we see it? For example, it's obvious that Prometheus rams the alien ship to stop it getting to earth. I can't help thinking that I would rather not have known that as it will be a central part of the plot - and the images of this look SO amazing! I know, it's a catch 22 ... I've been waiting MANY years for the next Alien installment and have scoured the net for years on as much news as possible. But, too much info can spoil a film - or at least take some of the experience away. Anyway, I'm booked in at my local IMAX at 00.01 on 1st June :-) The first of MANY viewings I'm sure. Andy

Hey Andy welcome to the website I'd have to agree with you. Theres way too many reveals. I dont think we shouldve seen Shaw impregnated (or post impregnated) with the octopus squid thing. I dont feel like going through the entire list of spoilerish reveals that may have given away too much. But it has sparked my interest and my anticipation for this movie is through the roof. Box office? Not worried. Cuz if Ridley Scott delivers the sci-fi horror 'epic' hes been announcing and it is as good as its said to be then audiences will pay ticket price to see it. At this point im just hoping the movie doesnt flop. I just want to see Ridley Scott at his best. :)

Why would Fox release so much that appears to spoil the film....and have so little to say about it officially? Only reason I can think that is logical is that they are hiding a massive secret...they have a lot of people following things just the way they want them to..away from the real heart of the story. No....to your thread title question.

Welcome andy. It's a definite catch 22. It does appear that much has been given away, but I'm sure Ridley will have kept plenty of big surprises up his sleeve. I'm looking forward to being totally blown away by the visuals & shock moments, which will hopefully match & even outdo those from A L I E N. His visual style + the latest in technology all adds up to something truly spectacular.........I hope!! LOL

I agree with Forever War, I can't understand the logic behind spoiling a movie that has so much potential. I think Ridley has more then enough inteligence to at least speak his mind and make someone at FOX think? We have bits and pieces but to be honest I have no clue what will happen.

Hello. I don't think too much is known - you speak of the ramming, but you cannot know how that scene relates to the rest of the Story or even in which Act it takes place?... I think they have done quite a sophisticated job in maximising the use of what looks like only about 10-12 minutes of the actual footage. Personally, I could have lived without the most recent tentacle fight TV spot and that would have been my limit - but there hasn't been any more since....I think they have judged this very well: we've seen a nice chunk, but we're actually not that much the wiser for it - I mean...just look at this board. I think @Forever War calls this exactly correctly - I'd say we are being double-bluffed and that they are holding plenty.

This is the kind of movie that, even if you knew EVERY BIT of the story, you'd still go see it because of the visuals, the directing, the effects, and Ridley's reputation... Fox knows this. They also know they are deceiving all of us...

imagine how incredibly awesome this film would be to see if we knew nothing...I have not been able to resist myself but wow, imagine not knowing about the cobra, the collision, the head, the fifield mutation, the engineer onboard grappled by tentacles.....it REALLY would have been WAY better not to know any of these.

Thanks for the welcome messages guys. I think there's another 2 ways to look at this ... 1. Fox are a little "concerned" about the "R" rating and are giving away more than they would do normally, to try and entice viewers 2. Ridley has plenty more up his sleeve and what we have seen only scratches the surface. Frankly, Ridley is nobody's fool and I'm guessing that he's happy with what's been released so far. Unless this was a compromise between Ridley & Fox - ie: release more into the public domain to boost ticket sales in return for agreeing to not cutting the film and allowing the "R" rating to go through. Only 4 more days to find out :-) Andy

Sure, it seems like we know a lot now, but all of the trailers basically show the same clips. They know what they want to reveal now and what they want to keep a secret. I get the feeling that there's a lot more to this movie which is still under wraps.

deffo too much known.. but only really by the people who go looking for it. Of course they have to give something away in order to entice people, but for purists like us, with wild and active imaginations, probably too much. All that said, it wont hurt the box office takings, and well in not too long we'll know exactly what was given away or what was actually to mislead us. By which time, we wont care, and probably will be reveling in greater analysis and 'prometheus the prequel/sequel'

i looked at it like this, I read everything up until now that interested me and take everything I have read with a grain of salt. We Know Nothing, We have seen Nothing ! It all means Jack !!! When we've seen the film then we can "talk" for real and about what's "real". Peace!
