MemberOvomorphMay-28-2012 5:47 PMWell it may sure be rather insignificant for a new theory of everything again to come up, given the immense number of fan theories posted here, but I need to give it another shot.So here it goes:
From the RS interview we all read here, we know these:
We weren't the first inhabitants of planet Earth.
Basically don't mess with the Gods and don't think you are equal with them and try to match them.
If you are given a gift by the Gods, don't misuse it or try to steal it for there will be dear punishment.
Finally a link to the original Titan Prometheus myth established.
What do we have now?
The Titan Prometheus Myth: Let's see a couple of references:
Titans were Gods too.Nothing more, nothing less. Actually they were the first, the old Gods. As soon as they had offsprings (especially the arch-Titan Kronos-Saturn who tried to eat all his children) they did not want them to replace them in the throne of ruling the universe.
Yet, Zeus, the only son of Kronos who escaped his father's appetite, grows up and returns to claim the throne from his father. He was the representative of the new generation of Gods destined to rule the universe.
Of course Kronos and many of the old Titans, would oppose to this and the Titan and new gods war started.
But not all old Titans joined Kronos, but on the contrary fought by the side of Zeus and the new younger gods. By the way, Prometheus was the most trusted and powerful young god of Zeus. After many years of war, finally Zeus managed with the help of his mother to put Kronos to sleep, and he was then carried to the CAVE OF GODESS NIGHT, to believe he is awake but actually being forever asleep thus rendering him harmless to the new generation of Gods who finally won and took over.
It is important to note, that men, as a race, was born by the blood shed by the good Titans who fought side by side with Zeus and the younger Gods.
Now, about the film. What can we relate to?
The defeated arch-Titan Kronos, marooned on that planet LV, unable to leave the planet. Imprisoned in the CAVE OF NIGHT....
Hated terribly the younger Gods who took his throne, and even more their offspring, us humans...the Prometheus crew.
Desperately wanting to find a way out of this planet and perhaps start a new war with the younger Gods.....
His malevolent nature depicted on all surrounding creation and creatures on LV...a perfect trap for humans who sooner or later would be visiting the planet...
Prometheus crew arrives...Kronos attacks with his creatures...alien DNA mixed with human DNA, enabling Kronos to take a material form that would allow him to pilot a ship...
A ship that he launches for Earth...why? Maybe by attacking the younger Gods offspring would help him make a new army to fight back for the throne, and at the same time, attract the attention of the younger gods to engage into certain war.
Ok..that is as far as I can penetrate. To tell you the truth...as much as I like this theory, I would rather see a Prometheus movie with a far more complex and exciting scenario.
Please forgive my Greek nature....
Thank you for reading this...whoever might made it that far.

MemberOvomorphMay-28-2012 6:02 PMIf Prometheus is too complicated then it wouldnt be as enjoyable. Its partly meant to thrill as well as coincide to provoke ideas. I wouldnt read into it too much, I get the depth to the Greek connotations but I wouldnt try and relate the two too much. If the film was called Paradise (which it was going to be) would that mean everyone would connect it to Paradise Lost etc, At the end of the day there will be ties to the prometheus mythology in the film but not as directly as you could imagine. Just my opinion.

Thanks brother.I feel just about the same as you. Only ties. It wouldn't really be that interesting to just fully copy the Greek myth and simply integrate it into a much modern environment.
That might reduce the entire project into a cinecita like effort of the 70s or early 80s. With all respect to the artists of Cinecita. It's just a figure of speech.

MemberOvomorphMay-28-2012 6:06 PMAlso, I think the main reason the film is called prometheus is because it stands just as metaphors to the film i.e. hubris, punishment, power, etc. I dont think that the entire plot of the film will follow the prometheus concept just tie into it so to speak.

MemberOvomorphMay-28-2012 6:13 PMJust an addition...the younger gods according to the theory above could be the "saucer" guys...

Yeh thats fair enough. I think we'll all be quite suprised as to how little the film connects to prometheus concept apart from certain sections - probably concerning the engineers.
The rest I think will be a horror thrill ride.

Imagine if the film was just a plotless horror flick. How much time had been invested into the reading into the film to find it was a point a to b horror movie. Would be pretty ironic
(really dont want this to be the case...)

No it won't be...RS is much of a thinker and innovator to just make a mere horror film.
I believe that although the tries to conceal his enthusiasm of going back to the genre, he must be investing tremendously much into making this his best film so far...And as I can figure, he conceals his feelings just to not spoil it for us, not altering our opinions , fantasy or expectations...He wants to watch his movie in awe and impact us heavily ....it's all there....10 days is not that much now!
