I´m a little bit concerned now

Actually, no, he doesn't need to "explain" a blessed thing if the movie is good enough. There's a TON Of sh*t that never got explained in 2001 OR in the sequel 2010 (and no, what wound up in Clarke's novels doesn't count). 2001 is still a magnificent film, bearing repeated watchings over the years. And for the umpteenth time - RIDLEY was the director, not Lindelof. Is Scott senile or something? No, of course he isn't. If he didn't like what Lindelof and Spaihts wrote, he could have changed it, or asked that it be changed, or brought someone else in to rewrite the script.
