Hmm 17 crew members... 2 seem to make it in the very end and possibly are the protagonists/antagonists: Shaw and Vickers. That leaves 15 more crew members. Of those 15 we know for sure that DAVID 8 is pivotal, a key character. He has to be there until the end... So... 15... [b]DAVID 8[/b]... EUREKA! Yeah lots of Alien fodder here, for sure. But i'm leaning toward two separate crews, two different missions. And I've said this before, but Kate Dickie, the Actress playing crew member Ford, has been quoted as saying she only makes it 28 minutes or so into the movie before being eaten by a "large, skeletal creature." This I think, is an obvious ruse. They would not let such an essential plot element leak, and it just does not jive with what else I think I know about the film. We shall see.

It's possible the crew is divided up like Necrofan say's above. Maybe they go to explore another temple and get wiped out by something.

One of the pictures being highly circulated about trying to prove that the old man in the space suit and helmet, walking through the air-lock is Peter Weyland, everyone seems to miss what appears to be a clear shot of Ford walking in behind him.

Two missions sounds reasonable. I don't think 17 crew sounds like too many, just that it sounds like a lot compared to the 7 in Alien (but the Nostromo was pretty highly automated, and the crew's initial mission was merely to chill in hypersleep.) But in Prometheus, the crew is going places and doing stuff. You can't automate research and discovery, thus you need more people. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say we'll see 17 deathcounts. Someone might still survive, just not as their former human self.

Jokes apart, it is intriguing. In the trailers we can see 12 different people (maybe 13). Who/where are the others?

10 are the main crew-quite famous actors David , vickers , ford , shaw , holloway , fifield , janek , milburn , ravel , chance the other 7 ? some are mercenaries ( almost 4 ), we see 2 shooting in the hangar ,,,, some maybe are the ones classifieds as mechanics a few time ago . im pretty sure Weyland will be never listed officially in the 17

Yes, I think its reasonable to assume that this vessel is going to have some lesser tech's and maintenace people whos sole resposibility was to always stay on the ship and maintain all its systems in a ready state. I do believe that OLD WEYLAND has already made it to Archeron!!...psssst.... The HELIADES !!!!...

Well if we assume that Prometheus is the only (Human) ship in the movie, then we only see Vickers and Shaw at the end and maybe David would be alive somewhere. But then what becomes of them, what becomes of any part 2? Because they would be stranded on LV223 unless they can fly another Derelict Ship (maybe thats whats gonna happen?). If thats not the case, and their is only one Derelict or only a Space Jockey can fly them. Then what becomes of any survivors anyway, the Air is hostile on LV223 and only way they could survive is in the Temple/Hanger Complex but then who knows what nasties lay in wait there. As surely there would be more of the Eel/worm Aliens around.

Why is everyone so sure that Vickers and Shaw are the last two survivors? Yawn. Dammit, can't we have one Alien movie where a guy is the hero? Just one?

Indeed.... Maybe that would be David.... I do suspect that David will play a massive part in what finally brings down the Derelict on LV426 and causes the Space Jockey to get implanted or changed via Alien DNA. I think that David becomes the Hero who saves the Earth by stopping the Derelict and also causing what ever burst out of the Alien Space Jockeys Chest. This would be based on if indeed the Derelict in this movie is the same one that eventually finds itsway to LV426 Now Ridley hinted that the last 8 minutes will link to Alien, he also said that the movie happens on LV223 but ends on LV426
