I think the marketing of Prometheus will be remembered from his majestic start and his silly end .... they did show too much ....here a list of the things thet HAD ABSOLUTELY to keep out of the trailers ..they had enough material to make fantastic trailers anyway .
1) Prometheus crashing into the derelict ...that is absolutely one of the most emotional scene of the movie ...you CANT put it in a trailer .
2) HAlloway infection ...no need to show it , its the central theme of second act ...also it lead to an emotional scene and they did already spoiled it all ...and they did show Halloway infected FROM the first trailer !! stupid decision !!
3) Derelict crashing ...its connected to point 1 ...Why ?? just show when it take off ....its a majestic scene anyway ... why letting everyone know that ?? When in the movie it happen you are already no worried that it can actually reach earth !!

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2012 3:07 PMThey didn't show to much, people spent too much time focusing on every detail in an ad, screen shot by screen cap. People got there hopes unrealistically high.
It's our own faults. We did it to ourselves. Well, people who give a shit about that thing. I personally don't give a shit about spoilers.

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2012 3:07 PMThey did it to be spiteful of the fanboys and the over analyzers out there. Not to mention that its becoming common knowledge that the suits at the studio usually emphasize the need to draw the biggest audience possible to the "marketing department".
Trailer have been stealing the show from most recent releases. Most modren trailers feature key moments that should have been a surprise, in addition to sequences from the final act.
Thank you Frantz!

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2012 3:08 PMI agree - said it fom day 1. And were not talking about a split second screen cap only the fanboys would discover - this has been front and centre of all the trailers / featurettes.
Playing Devils advocate...some may argue that you know it will never reach earth anyway simply because this happens before Alien (everything hunky dory on Earth it would seem)
I would also argue that the medpod scene is completely unecessary...its a standout moment in the film - that could have been this movies 'chestbuster' but they couldnt help themselves could they?

yep the med pod scene is the only thing I'm kind of irked about. what a moment that would have been if we wouldn't have scene it it trailers? that would have scared the crap out of people hope it still does

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2012 5:05 PMI agree. For a film that they mad esuch a crazy effort to act like they wanted it kept secret they sure did give a ton away. But I think our discection of every little thing was a mistake as well.

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2012 9:57 PMI haven't seen the movie, but I've read all of the detailed plot info (doh!) and it seems like they showed us EVERYTHING.
We saw all of the main plot points:
Briefing
Vickers Meeting
Landing
Entering the Temple
Inside the Temple
The first Alien attack
The Hangar Battle
The Med Pod
The Weyland Scene
The Collision
The Engineer Hunt
The Tentacle Monster
Um... we saw EVERYTHING.
There is nothing left to truly wonder... plus they gave us so much content between the trailers and the viral promo material that the fans collectively solved all of the "secret" plot twists with ease.
I guess the 'R' rating and the $150m budget pushed them to really get this movie out there and get people pumped... I'm sure they knew the obsessed fans would analyze every inch of what they threw out to the general public, but I guess they felt they had no choice, they need this to be successful and to appeal to more than just the Alien and RS fans, because NO MATTER WHAT we would all be there opening weekend.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 7:55 AMThat's the problem with this movie. They showed us so much in all the teasers and thus getting us all excited and expecting so much (more), but there was nothing left to explore in the movie. They really have shown us everything, if you want to enjoy the movie unspoiled, you should have never visited this site in the first place...
You don\\\'t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage!
