Prometheus: A Rethink

First of all, if you have not yet seen the film I suggest avoiding this thread. Second of all I have not seen the film, yet, and unfortunately will be unable to watch it in the immediate future (personal circumstances) but I will watch it in due course. Therefore my theories below are based off comments from those that have already seen the film - I asked them for the information, as spoilers do not bother me. Engineers At the beginning of the film we see an Engineer sacrifice himself, his DNA seeding life upon the Earth. From the footage I have seen in the trailers there seems to be a key difference between this Engineer and the Engineer seen later in the film - appearance. The Sacrifical Engineer appears "biological" whereas the "Last Engineer" appears "bio-mechanical". Humans Fate I have been informed that the Engineers had targeted Earth 2000 years ago, but for reasons not clear waited until the crew of the Prometheus arrived on LV-223 before launching their attack. The Xenomorph According to the information I have been told the Last Engineer ultimately gives birth to an Adult Xenomorph after being impregnated by "Cuddles" (tentacle monster), whom ultimately is sourced from the ampules stored within the temples. My Theory Here goes... The Engineers are exactly that, Engineers. Originally they were biological engineers that sought to seed life throughout the universe, and assist in the development of said life, as they once did on Earth. For intelligent life to evolve a planets ecosystem needs to be systematically "shook up" by near-extinction events, causing the surviving lifeforms to adapt and evolve to a changed ecosystem. Thus the Engineers engineered the perfect organism as a means to artifically create such near-extinction events. Now 2000+ years ago, either through choice, force, or after the "force-landing" on LV-426, the Engineers, possibly having reached their peak in terms of evolution became a bio-mechanical race. Adding to their genome with mechanical elements, allowing them to develop beyond the limitations set by nature. As they "upgraded", they realized that bio-mechanical life was more efficient and more controllable that biological life, and thus there outlook, their goal changed. Rather than seed organic life on planets created by nature, they could create bio-mechanical life on planets they had created, powered by stars that would never die. Thus their plans changed. All biological life they had created was to be deleted (using the Xenomorph) and replaced with bio-mechanical life. Now to LV-223... The Engineers stationed on this outpost, because of one of their own falling victim to its cargo (LV-426), were tasked with re-creating, re-designing the Xenomorph to ensure it could be safely transported. These engineers, used urns, ampules to store and transport the creature, but when adding to the creatures propagation with a new progenitor breed (Cuddles) they fell victim, once again to their creation. I would greatly appreciate opinions and views from those that have seen the films.

It reminds me of Mass Effect, the reapers coming to harvest organic life every couple of cycles and allowing the primitive organisms to survive. It is an interesting idea though, maybe the Engineers will then come to view David as the perfect organism that they were always trying to create but we made first. It would be interesting if, in the sequel (if there is one) David is merged with Engineer technology and gives rise to an entirely new type of synthetic life. As then it is in David that the Engineers find the one supreme organism that is most efficient.

Engineers : he look biological because hes seminaked ..the other wear a suit Human fate : was a forced delay to me ( or is a fast decision from the last Engineer when awakened ) ...the engineers had to go cryosleep ( but some were killed anyway ) becuause their base was overrun by "creatures" ( even if we dont know exactly what was chasing them ) The xenomorph : yes but is SO different from our old xeno ... Your speculation is nice but dont find many grips in the movie

If David was looked at as "better" than the humans in the eyes of the Engineers... ripping off his head was a strange way of showing it.

There is a lot of logic, but doesn't fit with what i saw in the movie. It looks like sacrifice. but is it? Did they know his dead body would start life on earth? the difference between engineers is one is naked and the other in a spacesuit (from their local designer of course)

actually Frantz, it's the same as Alien Alien: a dead body with hole in chest and no evidence around of what caused it. Prometheus: again but more then one body (one sleeping survivor) and no trace of the "killers"

Woah woah woah woah woah... woah. Are you telling me something in those structures/on that planet has already killed a carpload of space jockies? And they had visible chestburster wounds? Yowza. You think that's the result of a xenomorph, or proto-alien thing? Or a third thing? I just had a thought: what if the proto-alien is the accident, and the xeno is the intended end result? Like... the proto alien isn't a "proto" anything, it's a mistake, a bastardization of their normal bio-weapon. What if that? Hmm? Hmmmmmm? Think about it. Maybe I'm totally right.

Yes Ripley, that may be it. The xeno is the intended result, hence the xeno statue behind the giant head (still doesn't explain what the green translucent stone is). Fifield and Millburn find a lot of corpses and literally say "this one has a hole in his chest, almost like he exploded from the inside" (sound familiar?). What creature did this is a mystery.

@Blood What creature did that isn't truly a mystery, where those creatures are NOW is a mystery, hahaha.

oh quick question?.....does all the new creatures bleed acid?....so every urn on that ship is one nasty bunch of creatures related to the xeno we all know and love....even if it's purely in a nostalgic way? I Know we only get to see some new alien species....but having seen the movie do you think they all related?...
