MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 9:55 PMI have not seen the film yet, however from the start I thought this could possibly be a relaunch especially with certain persons onboard who were also involved with the Star Trek reboot.
Similiar derelict, but not the same.
Similiar planet but not the same.
Similiar aliens like the facehuggers, chectbursters, and original alien, but not exactly the same.
Revisiting and reworking of the Space Jockeys.
Re-using some of the elements fron Dan O'bannon's original script and some of Giger's designs of the failed Dune project.
It almost seems like RS wanted to improve upon the story and then brainstormed a whole bunch of quick vignettes that would look cool, and then tried to ram them all into a story.
Instead of just writing a clear story with a beginning, middle, and an end.
Some of you may think I need my stories spoon fed to me, but Empire Strikes Back left questions, but was also a complete story unto itself.
Thinking about watching the Thing prequel to prepare myself.

AdminPraetorianMay-31-2012 9:59 PMIt better not be a reboot... I will flip a table if they start that crap with this franchise.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 10:06 PMWell who knows... you have a very interesting point... these days it is all about franchises and finding a way to stretch them to the point of exhaustion in order to make as much money as possible. Like with the Paranormal Activity series: when you think the next movie is going to be about what the heck happened to the chick who fled with the baby, what you get next is a prequel... So maybe this is the case, and after destroying the Alien franchise with AVP, 20th Century Fox is gearing up for a new series of cgi Alien exploits.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 10:08 PMHahaha Love the table flip.
@Outlander - Not a reboot. If they took the final scene out the film and changed the design of the SJs so that they weren't recognisable as the one from Alien then this could have been released as a film in the same category as Battleship. Let me know if you disagree once you've seen it but I reckon you'll agree after seeing it.

Yes. The Thing prequel was very similar to this IMO.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 10:21 PMParticularly, I think since RS said any sequel would go off tangentially away from Alien.
So you follow a new storyline in the same universe, with room for as many storylines as people will buy into.
Just like Star Trek.
As long as they don't try to reinvigorate Jaws or something.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2012 10:32 PM@Outlander Don't give them any ideas.. They might recruit Lindeloff for a big buck take on Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus.. selling point: this time it would be a story set in that same universe, but leaning toward the philosophical and mind boggling aspects of man becoming another species' dinner

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 12:35 AMI think it may be a part reboot, part prequel, and part side-story (all this is from reports of people that have seen it).
It's definitely a way to start a new film franchise from the carcass of an existing one.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 8:27 AMNo way this is a reboot. People really need to read or watch interviews with RS. I watched a 5 minute featurette with him that answers 90% of all the questions I see in this thread. If I knew how to link I would do it for you, but alas, I an dumb.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 12:49 PMAfter viewing, I definitely feel 100% correct that this is a reboot.
I wonder if the Engineers are from Naboo?
