April 30, 2012Excellent theory, I couldn't agree with you more about the war against the Titans being part of the backstory :) The stuff about Tartaros is really interesting and something that could definitely tie into that theory. I really think that Weyland knows a lot more about the two races who were once at war. In a way he believes that the myths about the Titanomachy were true before he sets out, and believes he's the new Prometheus. Lets say for example that Holloway may have a difference of opinion with Shaw because he was previously working for Weyland on other dig-sites before she came on board, and he and Weyland share similar goals. Although because of what Holloway found alone, and then with Shaw, + his personal archaeological interpretations he doesn't believe it's Gods they are seeking.
He knows from the beginning that one group had a human-like culture and is out to debunk Shaw's beliefs to further his own true agenda. He really thinks Vickers is not going to be loyal to him and ol' Weyland, which he sees as a betrayal. Vickers doesn't know that he knows what she's supposed to be there for. When Weyland is revealed to be alive some of what they knew could come to light. However, they didn't think the older group would be alive anymore, and thought the advanced humanoids would be more hospitable: believing the Olympians simply inherited the fire of the true Gods after the war. Instead of starting the war deliberately to strip the Titans of their power. They thought the Olympians/engineers were being punished, but really they had started the war and were not yet doing the horrible genetic experiments that their brothers the Atlanteans were said to be doing with the gifts they received from their Titan fathers.
Ridley came out and said that the derelict was there for ages and we know the Jockies are friendly to their own species because of the warning. Who were the eggs for? Us? At such a primitive stage? What could we have done in the past to make them create such a bio-weapon? I think they were for protection against the conquering Olympians as you say. At the very least it could have been for a rogue group of engineers that eventually took over, but screwed themselves over possibly because of their inability to reproduce naturally and the toll the war took on them.
The Titans are actually more like the idea of a true god; whereas the Olympians are their offspring who eventually overthrow them after the war in the myths. The Olympians were punished from above during the war, as well as their brothers the Atlanteans; but they were able to overcome the Titans because of their command over the sky and mountain tops... well Atlantis wasn't so lucky. A monstrous plague, a massive storm, a fiery destruction, and a flood are all included in forms of the Atlantis sinking myth. The Titans could have taken out Atlantis because the Atlanteans were said to be performing horrible experiments and creating fish-man hybrids aka the mermaids they became in other cultures' myths. Also, Olympians and their brothers the Atlanteans are depicted as much more human than Titans are, especially the Titan Elder Gods who create Gaia and both of them.
