'It's all about everything' Gods versus titans

Outlander

The more I watch the trailers, the more I wonder if this is a mankind origin story. Ridley Scott says "It's all about everything" "Imagine if a place turned out to be different--like Hell" Vickers," A king has his reign and then he dies" Shaw'" We were so wrong" I think that this story is going to represent the war between Titans and Gods(Olympians). The Titans are the classic SJs who were wiped out long ago by the big blue guys (Olympians) This is the battle we see inthe holograms. The set down ship on LV-426 is a stranded battle wagon that was lost during that long ago war. The vanquished Titans were banished to Tartaros, an underground pit surrounded by walls and fiiled with the oily blood of them. It was guarded by the Hekatonkheires who controlled great winds. It also later contained Typhon, a creature with snakes for legs who also could generate storms. This sounds to me like the complex the Prometheus where the Prometheus arrives. Also, note the huge hurricanes in the atmosphere as the ship approaches the planet? After the war was settled, I think one of these creatures arrived at earth telling them of the way station, but by the time humans get there, he has been punished and they arrive at the Hell where the Titans are kept. Its almost a literal interpretation of the Greek myths and other eastern religions.

That's an awesome analysis Outlander. Ive had this same idea/myth in my head and have been imagining a situation where the humans set/let some Titans get "loose" and its them that are trying to leave on the ship for earth. An Olympian/Bald Blue/WARDEN actually is trying to stop them (titans) once he figures out the humans are there (unbeknownst to the humans, they are just stealing, getting infected, mutated, killing each other, getting impregnated, attacked), which really puts into perspective......humans arent ready for this type of thing..its all promethean fire to them...but Weyland corp doesnt care about that. On a side note its reminds me of the THEORY that the reason we haven't been back to the moon is because we were "TOLD not COME back"

@ Outlander: If that's the story that Ridley wants to tell, then I'm all for it. To me, he's too good a director to put off his fans any other way, especially since he's back in the saddle of his best genre. Thanks for the mythological comparisons!

Well there are yet more influences of the Prometheus Myth/Titans and indeed some odd occurences in this movie. I think this movie will show some clues as to the Xeno Orgins, be that created in this movie or as a event of this movie, or indeed created a long time before. But the main influence i feel is a mix of The many Ancient Civilisations Myths of Gods *(not God aka YHWH/Allah) a mix of Prometheus Myth, the use of ideas from the Orginal Alien Script and works by Giger including his unused Dune work. All mixed and then added to it the Weyland Agenda and a story back ground of the Space Jockey and what sort of stuff they are/was upto. I cant wait!

Excellent theory, I couldn't agree with you more about the war against the Titans being part of the backstory :) The stuff about Tartaros is really interesting and something that could definitely tie into that theory. I really think that Weyland knows a lot more about the two races who were once at war. In a way he believes that the myths about the Titanomachy were true before he sets out, and believes he's the new Prometheus. Lets say for example that Holloway may have a difference of opinion with Shaw because he was previously working for Weyland on other dig-sites before she came on board, and he and Weyland share similar goals. Although because of what Holloway found alone, and then with Shaw, + his personal archaeological interpretations he doesn't believe it's Gods they are seeking. He knows from the beginning that one group had a human-like culture and is out to debunk Shaw's beliefs to further his own true agenda. He really thinks Vickers is not going to be loyal to him and ol' Weyland, which he sees as a betrayal. Vickers doesn't know that he knows what she's supposed to be there for. When Weyland is revealed to be alive some of what they knew could come to light. However, they didn't think the older group would be alive anymore, and thought the advanced humanoids would be more hospitable: believing the Olympians simply inherited the fire of the true Gods after the war. Instead of starting the war deliberately to strip the Titans of their power. They thought the Olympians/engineers were being punished, but really they had started the war and were not yet doing the horrible genetic experiments that their brothers the Atlanteans were said to be doing with the gifts they received from their Titan fathers. Ridley came out and said that the derelict was there for ages and we know the Jockies are friendly to their own species because of the warning. Who were the eggs for? Us? At such a primitive stage? What could we have done in the past to make them create such a bio-weapon? I think they were for protection against the conquering Olympians as you say. At the very least it could have been for a rogue group of engineers that eventually took over, but screwed themselves over possibly because of their inability to reproduce naturally and the toll the war took on them. The Titans are actually more like the idea of a true god; whereas the Olympians are their offspring who eventually overthrow them after the war in the myths. The Olympians were punished from above during the war, as well as their brothers the Atlanteans; but they were able to overcome the Titans because of their command over the sky and mountain tops... well Atlantis wasn't so lucky. A monstrous plague, a massive storm, a fiery destruction, and a flood are all included in forms of the Atlantis sinking myth. The Titans could have taken out Atlantis because the Atlanteans were said to be performing horrible experiments and creating fish-man hybrids aka the mermaids they became in other cultures' myths. Also, Olympians and their brothers the Atlanteans are depicted as much more human than Titans are, especially the Titan Elder Gods who create Gaia and both of them.

I hope you're right Outlander. Space Jockeys and Engineers should not be one and the same, unfortunately I'm very prepared for it to be the other way round.

"This is the battle we see inthe holograms. The set down ship on LV-426 is a stranded battle wagon that was lost during that long ago war." Thanks for saying this so well. I am quite certain you are correct.
