ah, I watched Kubrik's Barry Lyndon last night. Great movie [and Ridley's visual inspiration for The Duelists].

Barry Lyndon is visually stuning. Much like a real painting of the time frame it's in [and that was the point with the visuals]. The story line is amusing, though slow paced [and glad it is that way, gives you more time to digest the visuals]. And you come to simpathise and hate some characters [the same ones, mind you], wich is a rare thing. Plus, the Sound Score is beautiful. All of the time period.
