Note: This review has been marked "spoiler-free". Any spoilers posted will be removed (the entire post). ----------------------------------------------------------------- well, i went to see the premiere and saw it again at midday today. to start with i really didn't know what to think of it, i was ready for something edging towards Alien. to be honest what we got was something completely unexpected. it's original in it's ideas, which is fresh to see these days and the fact it leaves so many unanswered questions is great! i think ridley has done a fab job of this bad-boy, sure some of the script is a tad loose but nothing is ever perfect (see typo in alien when ripley is talking to mother). after seeing it this afternoon again it really opened my eyes to the amazing ideas presented throughout. personally i wouldn't go as far to say it is part of the alien franchise, it's not. it's certainly a standalone film with loose elements from the alien universe which makes it interesting to say the least. a high five for everyone involved, i look forward to any future releases!

Juxtapose, i would give it an 8.5 - 9 out of 10. for me the only thing letting it down was some parts of the script. that aside, grand ole stuff.

in my own opinion, people were expecting far too much. expectations are a horrible thing and it's been proven by what people have said. i personally wouldn't compare prometheus to star trek as they're two completely different sci fi films. but hey! who am i to tell you what to think, i'd go give it a watch and see what you think!

...yeah i intend to go watch it...thanks for your reply!....sure i will enjoy....I mean i kinda enjoyed the last "thing"....but it was no where near as scary as the original (Carpenter)......must say the original scared the living crap out of me....Alien never scared me much....i just thought it was uber cool and very eerie.... Prometheus I see more as a sci- fi epic...with some shock-horror thrown in for the fans....the chest burster scene in alien....i dunno...it never made me crap myself...it's almost a little corny when you look at it now....the way it looks around comically at the crew and then it races off.....it's disgusting and shocking...i suppose a bit scary as well...but seriously i cannot figure out why people is thinking that is one of the most disturbing frightening scenes in cinema history....I can actually watch that scene while i am eating!

John Carpenters "the Thing" was really a remake of the 1951 movie "the Thing From Another World." The original is pretty good too for the time period.

my girlfriend's brother and dad have both got it on dvd, i must pull my finger out and get this watched. even if the creature is a bit cheesy, the ideas must be there! wouldn't mind reading the book 'who goes there' too.
