did anyone else wonder what the hell the green slime stuff was that David seemed slightly disturbed about when he activated the markings on the wall? surely it wouldn't be engineers that created the slimey resin as we didn't see any evidence of it throughout. perhaps it was something else....?

This is what I wondered why no one had pointed it out! That slime is like the goo in the aliens movies. Perhaps the Xenos were there, but they didn't have time to make nest, but left behind a little clue of their presence?

I posted a thread yesterday on 'why use stasis'. This is because I believe the engineer that was attacked by the squid already had something in it. The squid just merely protected Shaw imo. I think the prescence of the green slime is connected with how the engineer was the only one in stasis. I might be barking up the wrong tree, but there does seem to be these little clues lying around.

There's defintely a whole bunch of teasers in that scene. It's not the same colour or viscosity as Xenomorph goo, and it's IN the grooves of the control panel, as if whatever touched it was using the controls. Also, did you notice Davids reaction. He not only holds it up, streches it to look at it, but he sniffs it and says "impressive". He knew something he didn't share with the humans. And I wonder is there a reason that this resin is a similar green to the green rock inside the 'temple' /goo factory. I suggest that the green rock can activate the goo and also make it dormant (explaining why in 2000 years those worms didn't simply eat the head - which is 'in a remarkable state of preservation'. I like your idea that this is why the last Space Jockey managed to survive, by using this green goo, but you'd harly expect him to still have it on him after he wakes up, survives a crash, and then chases Shaw. I don't think the giant facehugger killed him to protect Shaw. These things show no concern for their hosts, other than keeping them alive during gestation.
