MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 3:02 PMwith sci-fi these days....maybe we should just forget about ratings and hope they do well at the box office instead.....problem is most sci-fi these days turn out like transformers.....gone are the days of originality....at least Prometheus is bold enough to try something new....that's what got me excited about it.....
Movies like star wars...i mean all six of them...they like family entertainment...I want something interesting, scary and intelligent and sci-fi orientated....you almost never get that anymore.... District 9 was probably the best sci fi of the decade so far...not scary...but at least very different!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 3:04 PM...very true what you saying Deckard!!...it's all about expectation!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:57 PMFunny that people will say they like Virus but then trash Prometheus. Not saying anyone here has. Just saying. I posted about this in another thread. It's all excpectations. No expectations for Virus=good film. Crazy expectations for Prometheus=piece of sh*t.
I haven't seen it but I will. Watched Sphere last night. It was good.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 1:43 PMYeah i remember that movie.
Donald Sutherland was the Ship's Captain and i think one of the Baldwin brothers was in it as well...

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 1:46 PMI liked that movie, it proved that robots/cyborgs and horror work great together. The story in Virus was simple yet good. The special effects were great and Donald Sutherland always delivers as an actor.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 1:46 PMIt was a good monster movie. I bit like Alien but set on the high seas. Even though cgi started to reign in the 90's it is nothing compared to the awfully digital look of most movies these days.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 1:50 PMwas that the one with Jamie Lee Curtis? If so I watched it a few weeks ago. wow I see it Is that one, sorry, but Yea I watched it and I just got the idea or a strange kind of urge like feeling in my head to see it again somehow so I did , had it buried somewhere in my collection of like 5000 digital films and concerts.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:08 PMWell good idea to revisit 90's genre movies. Probably any average movie from that time would be more aesthetically satisfying than present day blockbusters.

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:22 PM....whenever I hear the word biomechanical i always think of that movie....but it's not really biomechanical is it?....it's more flesh meets machine I guess....but i know it is very b-movie with cool effects and it borrows a lot from the alien franchise....but it's still relatively decent way to spend a boring evening....if u like sci-fi monster movies...then it's a sure treat...!

MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:27 PMjust checcked...rotten tomatoes gave it a 9 / 100....shame that's not fair!!!....it was way better than transformers IMO!

Arkadine
MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:32 PMIn some cases Metacritic is a better reference because it gives you an actual score, not a percentage of positive reviews. For instance, Metacritic score is 63/100 at this moment, while rotten tomatoes gives it 85%

Juxtapose
MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:40 PMYeah i noticed something like that with RT...their scoring system is rather weird...the average rating is 7/10...but the tomato meter is set at 85....suppose meta-critic is more accurate....but then at the same time...meta critic is terrible for games....look at diablo 3 ....memebrs gave it a 4 and critics over an 8....who can you trust....have'nt played it yet....waiting for the expansion...lol

Arkadine
MemberOvomorphJun-01-2012 2:50 PM@Juxtapose Metacritic is too "mainstream" maybe.. only the biggest media outlets are part of it.. Rotten Tomatoes, on the other hand has a large independent input. Ultimately, when it comes to movies, I resort to imdb... I generally prefer to avoid anything with a score below 4.5 at imdb

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 6:44 AManyone remember videodrome?
I thought that was a bit gigery and twisted
my latest twisted film to watch was THE PACT 2012, it wasn't anything new either but it is sick and twisted and more scares than anything lately, and its not about ghosts, devils or monsters but something far more disturbing
