EXPECTATIONS...

Well… Here in San Antonio, we obviously haven’t seen the movie yet. But after reading most of the early reviews, I am a bit disturbed by the opinions. However, as I’ve told many people, I’ve firmly believed from Day-1, that they could never replicate the stark-raving fear, which was evident in ALIEN. So my expectation, from that end, has been put in check, for some time. But I think what has ruined this experience for many, IS the fact that trailers have given away too much. With the material available, they could’ve gotten away with developing a few great trailers, while still not showing the Engineers (I knew something was wrong, when I saw the Big Blue Guy walking to his chair, in the first trailer; bad idea), the Prometheus crashing into the Derelict, the Cobra organism, and the shot of the Engineer getting attacked by the huge proto face-hugger. All these were giveaways to the storyline, and leaves nothing to the imagination and/or surprise/s. Showing the Derelict was ideal, because it sets the tone for the movie, and in some instances, mirrors the off-chance that it’s a prequel. Undoubtedly, this movie will probably make enough, to warrant a sequel. If it’s as bad as many are saying, then writing the next one, needs to be handled with the greatest of care. Ridley Scott is the guy to direct. But creating the story, is something altogether different. Maybe Scott could co-write? Perhaps he should. He was the one who always wanted “to go back”, and examine the Space Jockey, and who they really are, and what their true mission/agenda is. I’m not sure if Prometheus answers any of that for him. I myself, haven’t seen it yet, but many have already proclaimed it delivered more questions than answers (in that regard). At any rate, I’ll be there next Friday (June 8), ready to get the best seat I can find. Wife and friends in tow. I plan on giving an in-depth review and explanation (mine anyway), when I return from the theatre. Feel free to comment on anything I have just mentioned. I welcome any insight… 7 days…

@DarthSpock Bad idea. Ridley is a great director but he is not a writer. This movie can be considered "co-written" by him. Lindeloff have said in an interview that he is "proud of his lack of authorship" on this movie, and that "if the movie is a success it's all because of Ridley Scott and if the movie is not a success is because I was unable to execute his vision successfully"

I totally agree with Xeno-Jockey, this film is FANTASTIC..... these so called reviews by so called film critics are absolute rubbish, you have to try and distance Prometheus away from Alien because this should be treated as a unique and original story, roll on the 3D Blu-ray so I can enjoy it at home on my TV...

heartwarming to see that not everyone has been dissapointed by this film. I ADORED it (even moreso on a second viewing) and I class myself as a definite alien(s) mythos fan-girl. Its been disheartening watching SO many "fans" turn into trolls on nearly every discussion post about the film in this spoiler section, and use this place as some kind of sound off against mr.lindenbloke or on how they could have done better themselves. "Really? Go astound us all then with ur incredible yet unrealised visions as authors, screenwriters and directors. Then come back and well talk" is all I have to say to these. We should ship them all off on derelicts to the lost forums were im sure they will be in good company among people who appear love and hate something at the same time. For one thing I came out of the cinema on both occasions with my brain aching to dissect everything I had just seen, it literally resonated in my mind, the ideas, the visuals, the emotions - all incredibly strong. in my opinion this is the point of art, to make us think, feel and search for our own meanings. Rest assured if u like films that are mysterious and make ur brain work after the event u certainly wont be dissapointed. Oh and a last few word to the haters - stop trying to arbitrate enjoyment based on the FACT you didnt get it completely right and that a true artisan such as ridley scott managed to lead his baby in unexpected brave new territory. capsule review - 5/5 - haters gonna hate. LOL xD
