-----------------------------------------------------------------Its not the fact that prometheus is dire (which it is apart from the visuals)
its the fact it had the potential to be so much more
premetheus had the chance to be a) A direct link to alien a prequel to answer the many questions posed in that film.
or b) a stand alone sci fi film based on the ideas of human evolution without the space jockey the weyland corp etc with its own ethos creatures tech etc
however what we end up with is c) i mish hash of writting 2 serperste stories which combine into a dreadful story which is poorly exicuted neither alien or stand alone movie prometheus fails because of lack of direction a solid choice of what this movie should have been

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 6:08 AMmate i'm with you - There seams to be some members of this forum which are in serious denial and cannot take the hard cold fact that this movie has bombed in a big way. They are in utter denial and need to start manning up!
Admitting something is wrong is the first step to their recovery.....

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 6:28 AMI don't know what everyone is freaking out about, but Prometheus WAS a well written movie. Here why I think why:
-The movie does not hand you everything on a platter, but requires inference. If you follow the story closely it is quite engrossing.
-It was a fresh story, but not free of clichés which were far and few between.
-Several themes posed challenge the audience. Not many movies have the tenacity to question your personal beliefs (even though this is entertainment were talking about). Some people gave the movie a low rating because it did this, which is, honestly, quite sad.
There WAS a pretty obvious link to alien at the end which was not muddled or unclear. It was there, and it was...exciting! *gasp*
The biggest problem with this movie is it didn't use your script.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 6:48 AMit was D) a movie about the engineers. and it was great, so I dont have to be in denial.

That's how I feel about it - obviously started as an Alien sequel. Evolved into Prometheus but with the genesis of the idea still in there. As a result it feels quite messy because it's neither one thing or the other.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 7:38 AMI really liked it... Sure there were a few glitches here and there but that didn't really bother me much. My eyes were glued to the screen all the way through and I also felt that it had a set and atmosphere somewhat close to that of alien. And I also also think there were some really nasty scenes that were far more gross than the ones in alien.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 4:03 PMdont get why people dislike this movie, it was a great movie, i feel too many people expected this to end with the nostromo landing on lv-426, this movie is just the start of i think a trilogy that will expand the universe, this is what i wanted from the movie:
1. show us what the space jockeys are like, are they friendly/unfriendly, and what is inside the suit as ridley scott described it was on alien commentary
2. where did the eggs come from, if not answered in this hopefully in the sequel,
3. dont ruin alien, most prequels ruin the orginals, star wars is a big example (orginals where great, prequels where average) let some of the unknown elements still be there so when you come out of cinema your still left wanting to know more, rather than right thats it, we all know everything now, it would ruin alien, less is more dont forget
4. finally expand the alien universe, i wanted to see new creatures, rather than more eggs and facehuggers and this film did expand the universe

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 3:32 PMI think the Denial point has been proven here. Movies suffer, because too many people are easily pleased by special effects over plot... R.I.P. good storytelling.
