Ok so it's been 3 days since I viewed Prometheus. I have calmed down a bit and stopped sending RS hate mail (poor Ridley!, the hours he's put in). I have decided I'm still going to watch it again in 2D now that my expectations have been dowsed with black tar (don't worry there were'nt any mealworms in there). I may be able to try and view the film again with an impartial approach. I have to say that not for 1 minute during the movie was I bored which is more than I can say for 85% of this genre and visually it was amazing! So what Questions do I ask? Could anyone forgive RS? How about if Prometheus2 saves the day? What if this was an exercise by RS to tease the audience into reaction therefore knowing how to please the fans when he tackles the origins of the derelict on Lv426 (NOT LV223 or whatever number it was)? I think Prometheus was just too long in the making. We've had too long to ponder the Space Jockey and unfortunately some of the scenes and the plot was a tad wishy washy. It was still ace seeing a Live Space Jockey! And when we watch Alien now we will ponder the Humanoid face underneath the mask. It's not all bad is it? Oh God I just don't know anymore!!!!

Well last night both me and my wife saw Prometheus and we both thought it was brilliant. We were all told from the start it was not a direct link up to Alien, yes a lot of questions about the origin of Alien were answered and no the movie has not taken us to the point where Alien starts, but doesn't that just give us so much more to look forward to in the next movie? Well done Mr Scott.

It's only been one day for me and after a good sleep I have already forgotten most of it. It was that memorable. I will watch it again when it comes on tv and I don't have to pay for the pleasure

I guess You're right @austin202. I'm not the easiest person to please but I'm trying my hardest not to completely dislike the movie.

I have also had time to reflect on the film more and I have to say that I feel, if anything, even more dissapointed in what I saw. One point, I would make. Was Prometheus poor because it took so long to make and this raised expectation too high? Or did Prometheus take so long to make simply because there wasn't a good enough story to tell? I think personally, like the Star Wars prequels, this shouldn't have been made. Or if it was RS should only have done it if he was confident enough (and backed by the studio) to get a strong script which totally cut the cord with the xeno and concentratred on creating a tangential story in the same universe. This is what he said he was doing. While he didn't fall for ending the film with the engineer in the chair with a xeno emering on LV426, I think he actually did go part way with the awful scene at the end. I didn't dislike the film because I had high expectations. Many hyped films have turned out to be fantastic. I simply thought as a film the story was weak, the characters were illogical and lack motivation. Its almost as if RS has made a film which looks like a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of Alien. I guess there is some irony that RS has made poor zerox of the genre he helped create. It looks stunning, no argument there but as George Lucas said "A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing". Amen.

@Slipp_Digby I re-iterate. Can anyone do a better job? I do however totally agree with your comment about the Characters lacking dimension. They didn't seem together!. I know they all had different agendas but they just didn't seem like they were in same movie in some scenes. Even David who stole the show seemed disjointed. I think I've had enough of being let down by other people's creativeness. Like I said I am extremely hard to please but for some reason I just don't want to dislike this movie. (even though I should) Someone say something encouraging QUICK!!!

@Paul426 I think big budget sci-fi is to a degree always going to have an eye on commerical success. With those types of constraints I think truly original, groundbreaking films aren't going to come along very often. Can you imagine a stuid commissioning 2001 today? RS has had plenty of success, maybe we (and he) should be content with what he has already gifted us. I dunno, maybe film making needs some adversity and struggle to produce true art. This is usually what happens to young film makers when the budgets are tight, rather than more experienced - near retirement -directors throwing $100m+ at something. As for the characters, the performance of David was IMO the best thing about the film. However IMO even he has such glaring contradictions that he seems to be driven by the plot, rather than the other weay round.

@paul426 Can people on the forums do better. Well, in the lead up to the films release I saw some really good ideas posted here so story wise yes. Bear in mind Prometheus was written by professional writers who probably earned hundreds of thousands pounds from this. You would expect better.

The way I see it is that a sequel to Prometheus can go one of two ways, it can either follow Elizabeth and David to the home planet of the engineers or it can concentrate on where Prometheus left off with the birth of the first xeno and its development into where the movie alien starts, either way I will not be disappointed as both would be a great story, but if all we do is sit around on here and slag the movie off and say how bad it was we are just killing any chance off Fox making a sequel, personally I thought the movie was brilliant, I didnt want all the answers to our questions about Alien answering becouse if they where all answered what would be the point of a sequel!
