A few questions

1. Do the release dates differ very much from country to country?
Because in my country it will get a release in AUGUST :(
and I can't wait so long. What can I do?
I want to see it in cinema of course.
2. Why is everybody being so negative about the movie? I haven't seen it yet, but the trailers just look epic. What is so bad about the movie not giving answers? It will give a lot of room for interpretation and it will lead to many great discussions.
Is there a chance that the movie is too deep and that many people don't get this?

1. I don't really know much about the release dates - it might well be out on DVD and Blu Ray in some regions of the world by August or September
2. I thought the movie was great - it does raise a lot of new questions rather than giving any answers to the original Alien movie - I think a lot of people may have been looking (and waiting a long time) for Ridley Scott to make a prequal to Alien with answers to what the Alien race was and how it all began. I went into this movie with an open mind and really enjoyed it.

dude the films topic is deep! the questions it asks are deep, the film itself is NOT deep trust me just wait till u see it.
too much, too fast, it just doesnt feel right forget alien and any links to it watch this on its own merit and judge it as such.
Stunning visuals though...Trailers and teasers were epic some of the stuff isnt even in the film, u cant help but feel the directors cut is going to be alot better..and its set up for another film or two.
will be watching this again tonight to see if i get anything else out of it.

My feeling is that if everyone had been given the answers they say they wanted then they would have criticised the film for that instead. It's a fine film.

I will go into this movie with an open mind, because I haven't seen Alien yet (only a few scenes) and I don't have any expectations. I just know that I will love it.

1) release dates vary alot
2) most ppl love the movie...within the cult of the fan-community it might be more divided down the middle. You have to realize that alot of ppl saw this as the second coming (the first being alien) but its really its own thing dealing with questions that Alien didnt really care about investigating. Alien was a horrormovie set in space....Prometheus is a sci-fi movie.
I loved it.

The movie indeed provide a lot of answer. Maybe too much.
And don't forget that the movie must be seen even by people who never ever heard about the alien mythology.
The movie is very good, people who dislike it wanted to see "The Thing" in space, and they do not understand it's not an horror movie.
It's a true sci fi movie, not everybody loves that.

I do not expect to give answers about the xeno.
But I expect to understand the film.
I don't care if I do not get any answers about the spacejockey in alien.
But I demand to get some answers about the famous prometheus spacejockeys.

There is and there is not....
But if you really go to see it with this high level of expectation you will be disapointed, the only true connections with the first Alien movie are tiny details like what caused the xeno life. Don't expect to see at the end of Prometheus the beginning of Alien, you'll be disapointed.

Why is everybody being so negative about the movie?
Because it's really not very good.
And this has nothing to do with questions remaining unanswered. That's fine; they can be covered in the sequel.
What kills Prometheus is some piss-poor and unimaginative writing that sees character after character do some really stupid things in order to create situations where they can come to harm.
It also contains some of the most inconsistent character behaviour ever committed to film. For example: if you travelled to a distant planet and found a tomb covered in alien hieroglyphics, would you not ask the translator within your team "what does that say?". You would think somebody might be a little bit curious.
Not in Prometheus; nobody seems the least bit interested in what's around them...despite it supposedly representing their life's work.
They are also a very forgetful bunch too, to a point that defies belief and all sense of logic during the final third of the film.
But they are also blessed with an amazing ability to figure out what's going on, based on very little information whatsoever.

The problem isn't that the film doesn't give answers to the back story of alien, the problem is that it simply isn't a good enough film to stand on it own right. I don't think people would care about that if they got a good solid film. Weak characters, illogical action which are made only to move along quite a weak script.
I went in a party of five people. Three of us big Alien fans, two more general movies goers. I was the only one who was a bit more clued up on what to expect.
All of us were disappointed, in fact there was sort of stunned silence from the whole audience as the credits rolled. People were also laughing at some points.
Bad times.
