The Space jockey existed as its own species they had discovered or created the xeno however one of their ships crashed due to a stray face hugger, the ship then crashed on LV426 2000 years before the events of prometheus. So engineers are not space jockeys they are just humans that have evolved from us, in the future they had explored the universe and found LV426, they got implanted from a face hugger and went back to earth where earth was nearly destroyed from a xeno out break, using time travel they lead their less evolved selves to LV 223 which had been a research base for the space jockeys . The engineers killed the space jockeys and created space jockey suits to hid themselves from the less evolved humans. they were going to give the humans a message so the future could be changed. However something went wrong and the engineers posing as space jockeys died, when the less evolved engineers/humans lets the engineer out of the cryo chamber he relises that they have seen him in their image and kills them! Alot of this also makes little sense, but what the hell! Change, add stuff, abuse, what ever you like!
