Where I was dissapointed was not so much in the story or ideas [which given the expectations I felt were as reasonable as any other] but the decision to draw so many parraleles between the Space Jockeys and ourselves. Why the first Alien worked so well in my opinion was because, at it's root, it was viscerally terrifying as it was so different. Alien was essentially a slasher movie in space. It was also well acted and had concepts that were both horrifying and, more importantly, executed in a manner unlike anything that had come previously. Alien succeeded because it was so Alien.
This film is completely different in that regard. Still, I feel, a great movie but not frightening primarily as much of what is Alien in the film is in fact recognisably ''human''. So while Prometheus was fantastic it wasn't theterrifying life scarring experience Alien was which in a way I expected. It's a different type of film entirely. Not worse nor better just different.
