I got 2 sessions booked in for the same day, first in 2D, then in 3D about 3 hours later, so I'll have time to have a think about it. Then, after the 3D I'll have, until I go to sleep, about 4 hours to think it over some more. Then I'll make a decision ;-)

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

I'm going to be honest, if I hate the movie and feel cheated then there is zero chance I will pay money to see it again.

There's nothing wrong with it mate, seriously, just don't go into the cinema expecting all your questions about Alien to be answered. The film doesn't attempt to answer every question you had, just keep in mind it's not a 'prequel' in the typical sense.
Its a solid addition to the sci-fi genre and Ive disregarded most of the negative reviews on this site as these people only dislike the film because it wasn't what THEY wanted. That doesn't mean its a bad film, and they don't seem to understand exactly what good drama is and how it's exemplified in Prometheus. Keep an open mind, and you'll enjoy it.

Upon the 1st viewing of Gladiator I considered it a good movie, but I got so much more out of it on the 2nd viewing. Much more depth especially for the Commodus (Phoenix) character, I actually sympathized for him. I now consider it a great film.
I too plan on two viewings about a week apart, 1st in 2D then in 3D unless I hate it.

I have a friend who's seen The Avengers 3 times and loves it but wanted to see Battleship instead of the Avengers again a 4th time. So he bought a ticket for Avengers and went into the Battleship theater and watched that instead.
Hey, wanna' sequel for Prometheus but don't wanna' see it again? By a ticket for it and go see something else!

Having seen it twice mate i think it's for the best
1st showing I went in with especially high expectations of what I thought this movie should be and left devasted at what I'd just seen
After the 2nd showing I'd checked all expectations and pre conceived notions at the door and enjoyed it went away again and it's growing on me by the day
Do I still feel its a missed opportunity yes but it has opened some interesting possibilities that I can't wait to discuss when everyone has seen it
And isn't it a good thing that love it or hate it we're all talking about it when was the last time a film evoked this much emotion????

I've got my two sessions booked: 6/8 12:01 AM and 6/11 1:00 PM (both in IMAX 3D). This is a movie that's gonna require at least one viewing, IMHO.

For me a really good movie should work for you first time around. I don't think seeing this again will change anything about the problems for me. It's not plot holes or making sense of it. It's just the things that didn't make much sense from a narrative point of view. But I'll definitely be watching it again at some point I'm sure.

@mr pest
Props for commendable honesty. I suspect a lot of fans were let down by the fact that it wasn't what they were expecting.

I loved this film because it was not what i expected. I cant stand 3D though, as i always start seeing double, so I can't wait for it to be released on blue-ray.
AlienAge11June 04, 2012
I think giving it a second chance is a good idea unless you utterly hate it.
I mean, why on earth would I sit through THOR again? I'd have to be an idiot. Or SMURFS?
This is a really good film. There's loads in it to enjoy. It doesn't provide some great knowledge unlocking the mysteries of creation: it's - a - film. Entertainment.
Unfortunately an impression has been given that it's Ridley's 2001. 2001 didn't even give any 'answers'. It was thought provoking entertainment that lived on and grew in the viewer's mind afterwards. 2001 and Prometheus are fiction. Entertainment. Just forget everything - don't expect ALIENS or 2001 and enjoy it :)

I agree with db73 entirely.
A good film should be enjoyable on first viewing, and you should FEEL the need to see it again. If you then pick up subtle things on repeated viewings or it left you with questions which it does/doesn't answer after this it is a film with depth.
What I read above is people parting with money, dropping their expectations and seeing it again out of a sense of duty and in the hope that it wasn't as bad as they thought on first viewing.
I can't think of any film which I consider great which fits that pattern. You shoudn't have to work hard, or change your expectations to enjoy it. It should stand up in its own right. Prometheus doesn't IMO.

@Slipp_Digby:
Agreed.
I'm just getting the sense from a lot of members that a sequel wouldn't just be appreciated to clear things up... but it's absolutely necessary to fill in holes. Again, this is a well-proven characteristic of Damon Lindelof's narrative style. I'm not saying part with money out of a sense of duty (although, personally I will, even if it completely blows chunks the first time around, because I'm heavily invested and want those holes filled in a sequel and therefore am willing to financially support a second attempt.)
Personally, I'd like to see a different writer's take on the sequel, (if that is), I don't like the story the first time around. I already know I'll be impressed with the visuals and tech. But like you say, story is essential.
I been teaching video production for a couple decades now, and the trend I see young film-makers taking is: "Wow" the audience with VFX... story is secondary. When in fact, CGI (VFX, etc.) should only be used to enhance a great story... one that is already there.

In the true Book of Origins, there is an old saying that goes "A fool and his money are easily parted".
I'm not going to see it on the 8th - i'll see it when I get finished with more important things in life. I'm not going to be anxious about it or tear-up everytime I see a commercial because i'm going to miss it's US opening day. And if this movie sucks for me the first time around, I damn sure ain't going to waste money seeing it again. That is total lunacy! Life is to short for trying to milk a dry cow twice.
AlienAge11June 04, 2012
In two hours time I won't be giving it another chance - I'll be excitedly sitting down to enjoy it all over again! I wonder what I'll pick up form it this time. My wife and I keep coming up with new insights. This morning she said: "You know they way it looked as if they decided to wipe out humanity about 2000 years ago. Do you think that was because of..?"
You see? It has a life beyond itself. Here's my review - of sorts:
