Saw the movie in USA on Friday at private screening for local media critics. Walked out happy, not blown away, but happy. Then I started thinking back to it, specifically back to the boilerplate movie description put out by Fox, and ostensibly RS himself (found on IMDB, rottentomatoes, etc:
Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. -- (C) Official Site
The key in there for me is the line - There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Whether you like/dislike the movie i would think we can all agree on one thing...a 10 second fight in the Engineer control room and 5 second 'chase' is not exactly a 'terrifying battle!' based on that description alone, i guess i expected more in terms of 'battle.' am i way off base here?

I think the battle refers more to the battle they face dealing with their own stupidity as a crew. Main example: "Ohhh an alien space snake! I think I will reach out and pet it!"

Well I guess there are personal battles to be fought apart from the epic battles you are talking about. Actually I would hate to see another grand scale cgi battle, we've seen too many of those.

@drakeequation - LOL @Arkadine - yes, not hoping for large cgi battle either, but perhaps something that lasted a bit longer than the physical battles we were provided. The ship stuff lasted 40 seconds and the 'chase' was confined to a tiny life yacht.

@OrangeAgent I see your point, just saying that maybe "terrifying battle" refers to the protagonist fighting monsters and aliens and stuff like that// not that I defend the marketing people though they are usually big liars lol

I have not seen the movie yet, but the last thing the world needs is another large-scale cgi battle. There have been too much of it already, and I do not think movie fans in 50 years will find anything enjoyable in it... it will be pityful. As Ridley said it, quite correctly - after all, it is all about the story, the characters. If that's interesting, I'll love it. Arguably the most lowly rated film in the AVP universe is Predator 2. I love that film for the wonderful, vivid characters in it... I could watch it so many times, and perhaps not the last time.
