MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 6:03 AMI hope not, but my last two spoiler free posts, which expressed my polite thoughts after the 1st, and then the 2nd viewing, which both attracted interesting responses, seem to have vanished from the lists of posts? Is someone taking them down? Or am I missing something.
The last thread is below........
After seeing the film on opening night, I was gutted : ( Now...for all you haters out there...that's just my opinion and we're all entitled to one. So back off all those who don't understand what an opinion is, or a discussion board where they can be aired.
First time out, I thought the story was confused. The soundtrack, whilst good on album, was mismatched frequently against the scenes. The majority of characters were flat (although loved the interplay between Vickers and the ships captain) There was no fear, dread or terror and the promised sh*t was certainly not scared out of me by any stretch of the imagination. On the positive side, the visuals were stunning and David8 was the best android ever. But the ending was (IMHO) a huge piece of cheese. So much potential for being scary and emotion provoking missed.
Having taken my son to see it last night with vastly reduced expectations, I feel slightly better. The film stands up on its own...but is certainly not the adult calibre film some of us hoped for. As regards a fitting prequel to the Alien film (and no one committed that it was).... not there yet..but scope for a sequel will see where that goes, and to be clear..I'm no longer bothered if it turns into a completely separate franchise on a complete tangent. My mind has let go of the upset and now has hope that the new story will develop along interesting lines.
I asked my son (who is 20 years younger and not a huge fanboy like me) what he felt about it and he simply said, it was a 6/10 and an enjoyable film. I'm glad he enjoyed it and for all those of you who did. That's important. Life is too short and difficult not to enjoy a good night out at the cinema. For me, I'm still upset...but I DID enjoy some of the cinematic scenes and a glorious looking film. I hope those who got upset about it like me can watch it again after your expectations have been dashed. Let go of them now....the chance is gone. Watch it as a stand alone and it's an ok romp with beautiful visuals and some nice lines, with potential for an interesting sequel. Endings still cheese though : )
Spread the Love.

i am glad that a bit of decompression from your initial viewing
helped you to appreciate the film for what it is. i myself have not
seen the film. i will this coming friday. i plan on seeing it again
after that in IMAX
i figured that some folks who weren't at all pleased or sated with
this film, might look at it thru a different lens after seeing it a 2nd
time. not to suggest you now love the film, but it seems that you
don't disregard it as much as you did a short while ago
thanx for this post

@Shardy and mr pest
Thanks guys.... After huge expectations I felt gutted after seeing it and it really is good to have salvaged something. It's not a bad film...that's for sure. You can poke holes in lots of scripts you like. It's well worth a second viewing once you've taken your fanboy hat off.
Was kinda cool taking my son to see it after my dad took me to see Alien.
Phew....Thanks again guys.

@alteredstate.
Hope you enjoy it pal. I sincerely feel your pain after the first viewing. It's nice as you say, to relax and just let it be a film and not something you pinned huge expectations on : )
Hope it helps put things right (well, better anyway : ) )

@Mithra: quite right about the music. It didn't match the action onscreen.
But again, Prom is a B-movie, nothing more. It won't reach cult status like Alien or Blade Runner.

I agree 100%. Chance missed. But....still chances for a sequel to learn from the mistakes. I may be grasping at straws...but hey...I never thought they'd make this film in the first place...so you never know.

I tried like you but no way....
some said 6/10....what a shame for a movie served like this......
?? class movie served like A class movie.. it is about everything movie puh...
you got the Shaw's axe hitted on your brains and looking for a chance to stay in life ha ha ha lol...
let's be honest force DL use some cells seeded by SJs !! and resist to insulting by kiddish stupidly scripted movie making especially by RS so sequel may be 2 times awful than prequel. lol ...so resist for remaking of Prometheus
it is a pleasure to be in this forum with you...kindly

@LV223 Wreck
I understand how you feel. I hope that any sequel employs different writers. I hope it's more gritty and suspenseful. The grand ideas of this film need to be played out better in any sequel.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts

Mithra,
I'm so glad that you feel better now. Your original disappoint was palpable.
I'm not really a “fan boy about any movie overall, though many would likely call me that anyway. BUT, I do get passionate about certain aspects of films, and “wasted opportunity on any intentional endeavour is always disappointing to me, even to the point that I get angry from time to time.
It makes me very happy that you're open to this film being something *different* from your original expectation(s). And, from a childless person’s perspective, the fact that you could go with your son as a shared experience is more valuable than any film itself as entertainment could ever be.

I actually went home after seeing Prometheus in a bad mood.
I had been looking forward to seeing it for a long time.
It was a real disappointment.
Ridley Scott blew it.

Thank you for taking the time to write that. I feel a bit better now that I've seen it again, had some general acceptance and that the rush of expectation has past. It would be foolish to let anger and upset get the better of me...it is only a film I know. : )

I understand entirely.
I went home gutted...very angry...Couldn't even talk to my friends much about it when we left the cinema as they weren't fanboys...So upset about the missed chances.

Svanya
AdminPraetorianJun-04-2012 7:05 AMStaff are just regular users that got asked to help out. The most we do is moderate any personal attacks between members and repeat threads (Things that are against forum rules). If you have any issue with staff or posting, please PM BugHunter about it.
As far as the movie goes, I haven't even seen it yet and i don't have an opinion. If you read my older comments you would know I respect others opinions, good or bad. We do not censor anyone's views..
I would also like to add that I am trying to remain as positive as I can, despite having had the the plot/story spoiled for me because of my moderating duties. I think people forget about that too, when they assume staff have some kind of agenda, that we have sacrificed so much to keep this forum a decent and welcoming place for people to be on. :(

Svanya
AdminPraetorianJun-04-2012 7:27 AM@melkor; No, I am sorry I cannot, because there are 10 moderators here and we don't know everything that everyone does. If you have questions, you should always mail BugHunter.
I know you don't mean any harm, it's ok. We (the Staff) have been accused of so much wrong doing this week and it's hard to understand because we work so hard to make this site welcoming for everyone.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 7:22 AMHi there Snorks and Svanya, no offense meant of course, but can anyone explain what happened to Mithra's posts?

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteJun-04-2012 7:30 AMWhat Svanya said, we each do what we can within the boundaries set by us by BH. If any member of the staff is suspected of overstepping those boundaries you should contact BH.

"contact BH"
but what if it is BH (BugHunter)?...You know he went to sleep normal, but under his bed was a giant pod.......

Mithra
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 7:58 AMSince my posts have been , spoiler free, adult and fair and expressed a balanced view and the sincere wish that despite my feelings on the film, that everyone paying money to go and see it enjoys it on some level,.....It's rather disappointing that someone has removed the mails, especially with the feedback other forum users were giving it.
Whoever chose to do it, really should examine their personal motives and the impact they have on an open discussion forum for adults.
I have contributed discussion to this forum in the past and had some huge responses to my threads (76 responses in some cases). I'm sorry if one individual feels the need to censor opinions that don't align with their own.
Thanks to all the other staff who have built such an excellent site which I have enjoyed immensely up to now.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:09 AMVril......Over the last few months, as I have come to know BH as personally as I can in this medium, through PM's and emails, I can say witha great deal of certainty that BugHunter would be the last of us to censor based on opinion........I can only say that I personally have not deteled any negative reviews, nor will I, unless they break our Forum Rules or Standards of Participation and Conduct - Please Read.........IF ANYONE WITNESSES STAFF DOING ANYTHING OF THE KIND, INFORM BUGHUNTER AS WELL AS OTHER STAFF....
I have even defended their right to be negative in a few posts....I would like people to be more intelligent and rational about WHY they didn't like it, rather "it sucks" or "F@#% Ridley Scott" or "The B&*($% Lindelof" like some have....that's all I ask.....elaborate and be civil......Play nice....

Mithra
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 8:15 AM@craigamore
I would hope you have read my posts and can see that not only am I polite and balanced, but that I also try and fend off those who hate contrary opinions and do not believe in free speech and discussion. It is very disappointing to see someone censoring views that don't align with their own, especially when they are written in a way as to be helpful and join in the spirit of this great forum. There are enough problems out there with people censoring the internet.
I play extremely nice, and my posts have been genuine. The reason behind my last post was even to say that despite being very disappointed with the movie...there were a number of positives I hoped those others who were disappointed could take away....Can't get much more balanced than that from someone who was very upset by the movie.
This forum has been great and the staff have done an excellent job, but this is a problem. A genuine 100% problem impacting free speech of the like minded people who enjoy coming here I hope you can resolve it with whoever is responsible.

"Play nice."
Do you really believe a giant pod is under BH's bed as he sleeps?

Svanya
AdminPraetorianJun-04-2012 8:30 AM@Mithra; I agree and feel very much that everyone on this forum has a right to their opinion and to be heard with respect. This place is meant for the exchange of ideas not insults and I apologize for your having had a bad experience here. Please don't let one bad apple, as it were, spoil the bunch.

Thank you for taking the time to say that. I hope you can nail the bad apple. I don't want him/her to spoil the bunch either..but when they have the ability to modify the forum to their own thoughts....you may find it tough to solve. Not sure how much they have changed to suppress views they personally don't like already.
I hope the rest of you mods can track him/her into the air shafts or get it in an airlock and get back to the business of running such a great fun forum.
You seriously have done an excellent job.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:02 AMIs there a chance it's a bug (in the non-alien sense)?
Both the removed threads show under my personal profile with"(SPOILER FREE)" appended to the title. Before this, they were still visible on the main forum. Could something have happened inadvertently?
It's just a thought. I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion over something that could be a glitch...Be good to nail it though.
M

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteJun-04-2012 10:11 AMNo worries Mithra...
I think it was moved into the "Prometheus Reviews (Disliked)" section because it was probably considered a review, and the chance that spoilers may be posted by any whom replied in your thread - anything posted in either review section and the spoiler board does not show up in the main community area, so as to protect members from possible spoilers.
That said it is a little perplexing that, with your thread being in the "Prometheus Reviews (Disliked)" section, that such a stipulation was placed on your thread which has resulted in the deletion of any posts containing spoilers. As mentioned before, your best bet is to rename your thread stating "possible spoilers" and request BH to have the text I mentioned in my previous post removed.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteJun-04-2012 9:14 AM@ Mithra - have you checked the spoiler section, it may have inadvertantly been placed there.

Juxtapose
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:19 AMi am pretty sure it is just a glitch in the matrix....no site is ever bug free...and i am sure bug hunter are hunting down those bugs ....but bugs tend to hide so i would not take it personally....i have seen some of my threads also mysteriously vanishing....but i find them in my personal profile with plenty of feedback....so other members might still be seeing it..weird?...but i seriously wouldn't lose any sleep over it!....almost 100 % sure it's just a bug!

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:28 AMOne small piece of advice to Bughunter...some constructive criticism...can't you just say at the top of the page "Community discussions/Have I upset the staff here?"....i don't always remember in witch board i posted what...other than that great site!...maybe also ban animated avatars....they just plain distracting and annoying...plus they slow down the site...!....oooh now i am gonna get it...lol

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:30 AM@Juxtapose
Thanks for that. I hope it's a bug too and it can be nailed. Not sure how people can feedback when they can't see my thread any more though. I was really liking the discussion and input from the gang here (except the haters).
Let's drink to it being a bug...Here's mud in your eye!

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteJun-04-2012 9:32 AM@ Mithra - i have noticed that posts in threads in both review sections and the spoiler section don't seem to update in the recent posts part of the community page, which is probably a measure implemented by BH to keep spoilers to a minimum.
@ Juxtapose - that is actually not a bad idea, you should contact BH with that very idea.

Juxtapose
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:32 AM...let me just add that i have seen some pretty cool ones....it's just annoying to have them flash constantly in your peripheral vision while you trying to read!

Svanya
AdminPraetorianJun-04-2012 9:33 AM@Juxtapose and Mithra; You can look in your profile, under "Threads" all your posts should be there in order. Not sure if there is a number limit though, but I am sure at least the last 20 would be there. (I have only started 4 discussions so I am not 100% sure of how many are stored)
Also, could it be as simple as they were a repeat post?? Those do get locked.

Mithra
MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 9:40 AM@Svanya
The threads are still under my profile...but the thing is that they're not on the forum, so people can't see or reply to them. I was really enjoying the feedback and discussion. People here are largely great and have majorly interesting and imaginative input.
They weren't repeat posts...they weren't locked. It's a good thought though, but it's either a rogue staff member or a glitch.
Thanks for the thoughts though..
M

Svanya
AdminPraetorianJun-04-2012 9:43 AM@Mithra; If they were deleted, they would no longer be under your profile! Once deleted everything disappears. Actually, I will go test this out now. Gonna make a post and delete to see if it's a glitch.
Yeah my trial/test post is gone after I deleted it, so you have a glitch. Simply mail BugHunter about it, he will need to fix that.
As for your threads, I can see them fine, is this one of the ones you thought was deleted??
Link-->My post 2nd viewing thoughts (spoiler-free)

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteJun-04-2012 9:57 AMAs I suspected...
Mithra, your thread is situated in the "Prometheus Reviews (Disliked)" section. This why none of the new posts in this thread show up on the recent posts part of the community page, so as to avoid any spoilers getting to those that don't want to be spoiled.
Also on your thread it says at the top...
Note: This review has been marked "spoiler-free". Any spoilers posted will be removed (the entire post).
...which may explain why some posts have been deleted in your thread. this is the first time I have seen this so I'm guessing one of the other staff members has been watching the thread for spoilers. Your best bet regarding the deletion of any future "spolier" posts is to contact BH and to rename your thread, stating possible spoilers.
regards
Snorkelbottom
